Is Andy Anderson The Most Versatile Skater Ever? | SKATE TALES

Спорт

Andy Anderson is the people’s champion: a skateboarder for all seasons who made being an outsider cool. The era-jumping, helmet-wearing skateboarding phenomenon can freestyle like it never went out of fashion, rip monster rails like a mosher, AND represent his country in the biggest contests of them all! Andy represents all sides of skateboarding- but, what's more, he does so in his own signature way.
Undeniably brilliant, unapologetically out there and unquestionably unique, there was no way Skate Tales wasn’t going to beat a path to his door. Madars is in Venice Beach to meet the man they couldn’t ban: ladies and gentlemen, Mister Andy Anderson!

It's funny how Andy used to receive flak from other skaters in the past for being "different" until everyone realized he absolutely RIPS, all while being a genuine and kind soul who lives for skateboarding. It's so good to see him get the attention he deserves.

@@davidfhth6842 core skateboarding is extremely small and there's an even smaller niche that cares about every single trend and what's cool/not cool. i think the idea that most or all of his fans are non skaters or scrubs is a bit outdated. at one point that was true, but not anymore. when i was at tampa pro the whole crowd was into his skating and i also know people that know pro's that like his skating. even skaters on companies you wouldn't expect like polar.

Muhammad Ali has a great quote about the idea of the word impossible. What Andy said reminds me of it. Of course, using a helmet is gonna keep him skating and SMART a lot longer. “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I just watched Andy’s part last night, and I’ll say like I said then, Andy’s skating is truly different and unique, I’ve been skating for over 20 years, alot of parts that come out, and tricks see on Instagram or at contests, I may not be able to do all of them, but I understand them, and understand how you could do it, Andy’s skating is a different story, I’d say more then 75% of his tricks are ones that literally blew my mind, he defies physics on a board, and he is such a genuine soul, never met him, but from years of watching him on the NKA videos I feel like I know him, it is so lame that people give him shit for wearing a helmet, skating is a creative way to express ourselves through our tricks, style, clothing, and so on, if you don’t want to wear a helmet then so be it, but don’t hate on the next man for protecting his brain, the same brain that thought of all these gnarly tricks and concepts he has, that’s like hating on someone because you wear leopard skin pants and they don’t want to, it’s pointless, the fact that he did not get the recognition he deserve 5-10 years ago is criminal, this dude has been this good forever, and he has only gotten better, so while the rest of you were worried what everyone else thought, Andy has been killing it, and the best part is he not once in my opinion has seemed bitter or resentful in any way, in fact I’ve seen him give props to skaters who most definitely were hating on him, humility is something inside you that can’t be taught, you have to find it within, and Andy is humility in skating form, I could go on and on about Andy, he is gonna be known as the skater who made freestyle skating cool again, while also making every other style of skating look cool, scratch that, he just makes skating look cool, if by some coincidence you read this Andy, you are an inspiration to me and so many other, keep shredding

Andy is everything skateboarding needed, humble honesty, artistic endeavour and love for all beings. Canadian bc philosophy brought to skateboarding is so nice to see with young people. I grew up in invermere bc moved to calgary in 2000 to film skateboarding, got to film thomas, koston, and many others in my 20s. havent been a part of skateboarding for many years, but still watch videos all the time. when andy came on the scene and brought his philosophy into his art with skateboarding is so refreshing. ive said it before and said it again this is the kind of person young folks need in the world today. good on ya andy. as someone who has had a head injury , even with a helmet ( hit my jaw hard on a fall) I love his advocacy towards helmets and having a i dont care what others think vibe is important. this here is a true role model. Makes me want to get back on a skateboard even if its just easy simple stuff. no having to go big or go home, its all about the fun and the art of it. Nowadays im older, got kids that are grown up and It makes me happy they have people with a good world outlook to look up too in skateboarding today

I graduated as well, and that's why I always respected this dude. I'm a hypocrite on flatland though. I really like the way the longboarders promote safety. Seeing these people who take massive injuries bc they wanna look cool is so goofy to me. They could be doing 10/10 skating and still all I see is a goof and a bad influence, lol. Like kickflipping on a platform where you can fall! OH GENIUS. Let's respect those losers! /s SLS blows nuts! Commercialized competition skating is lame. I'd be watching this guy and parts and docs like this over that stuff any day. I'd rather watch bmx freestyle, or Moto Trials w no money in it over xgames. “How to define my skateboarding?” The title said it! It’s “Versatile Skateboarding”. The way how Andy thinks, imagine if Red Bull or whoever asked Andy to come up with a Versatile Skateboarding contest. Makes you wonder what will he come up with for that contest.

Imagine dragging a dude through the mud for wearing a helmet. God forbid he doesn’t want to eat through a straw for the rest of his life. Also it’s a good influence. He’s a talented skater and when kids see how cool he looks wearing a helmet they’ll be more likely to wear one, and kids should 10000% wear one, also adults

I'm in my forties and I haven't skated in a while, but seeing a random Braille video about Andy a couple of years ago re-ignited my passion about skateboarding. I think this man is a gift to skateboarding, and I just love his attitude and his views about skateboarding and life in general. Just an inspiration to me atleast, and that's what counts really.

A lot of the skating community was not ready for Andy Anderson. But over time everyone is coming to the same conclusion. He's a nice, humble, and knowledgeable dude that rips like nobody's business and he is the kind of generational talent that skateboarding needs to help push things forward. He wears his influences on his sleeve and has become a master of marrying all of the different styles of skateboarding into his own flow that is wholly his own. I would not be surprised to some day see people say the name Anderson with the same reverence they say the name Mullen.
