    At eleven, I saw this very same car racing in 1972 at a non championship race in the amazing original 7 km long Interlagos circuit. Adding to my fortune, I was at the now defunct Sargento hairpin, which was heavily banked, and from the molehill in its hub, the cars could be seen almost from above, and it was spectacular. By then, I had been folowing the sport for four years, having lived throuth the trauma of losing my idol Jimmy Clark, and then Jochen Rindt. Seein Fittipaldi in real life driving this gorgeous racing car, and knowing he was fighting for the championship then was nothing short of magical.

    +ivcim the stig does in fact talk during the shooting and with guests, but never on camera. The really funny thing is: He actually does never take off his helmet and reveal his identity on the set. That must be truly annoying when filming all day ...

    top gear back then was so random. like imagine being in the meeting where it was being discussed “we’re testing these very sensible saloon cars okay and and we need an ‘72 formula one championship winning car” “yes”

  • @Snarl616

    @Snarl616

    Actually it all makes sense. It's to show that no matter how sporty and powerful these saloons are, they are still no race cars. And it also shows how much technology for the race cars of the 70s was needed in comparison to the road cars of today.
