    @@The_Lute777 I have a Braille display on my desk but primarily work with Bluetooth keyboards paired to an iPhone to interact with KZread. Most of the keyboard navigation in Mac OS is the same on the iPhone, at least for someone using Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader. Final mission. I was using bomber and fighter swarms to go for the objectives as my main fleet fought off the roaming gangs of enemies. The Beast did its surprise powerslide in before I could move out of the way, and one shot the heavy cruiser about 20 minutes into the mission. It had survived every mission up until that point acting as a spearhead, a second flagship almost, and never got infected. Not until The Beast itself, the Naggarok, devoured it.

The only race known to possess the capability of intergalactic travel to bring humans from the milky way are the progenitors. If you are too bold or too efficient it will lay the smackdown on you. On my first playthrough of HW1 i scraped through the missions. On a later playthrough I captured a Heavy Cruiser and took it to the next mission. When I explored the nebula I found 4 heavy cruisers waiting for me. If you can get hold of Cataclysm (Emergence) it has the best structured campaign.

But, my own head canon is, that yes they suppresed the details about the Beast Infection, because the Kushan/Hiigarans just returned home and promised things will be different and better. Only moments later to unleash something that could have destroyed the entire galaxy. Like someone who crashed cars multiple times, being put on the sidelines and when they say they got better at driving, crashes the car immediately. Pretty sure the other factions would have been like : "Yeah, you're going on exile again."

    It's interesting that the first game (HW1) not only made no mention of Sajuuk or the Progenitors (and not really any religious themes either), but also didn't include the 3 Far-Jump cores at all. Originally the core the Kushan (ex-Hiigaran) used to get off the planet was just a regular hyperspace core with no real significance beyond letting them leave their planet. The story of HW1 was decidedly non-mythical and devoid of any 'special' ancient tech. It was HW2 that added all of the mythical ancient history to the Homeworld 'verse, as well as changing the core the Kushan found on their planet from a regular core to one of the 3 special Far-Jump cores. And Deserts of Kharak really bent the otherwise hard science of HW1 into one steeped in religion and myth. The narrative differences between HW1 and the rest (can't speak for Cataclysm) are actually quite remarkable. Personally I wish they had stayed with the HW1 narrative, it was much more reliant on basic science and Kushan ingenuity to move the plot forward. I still like HW2 and Deserts, but I think the religious and mythic themes were not really necessary and dumb-down the whole narrative. I'd rather they had just stuck with the hard science and not this 'ancient holy tech' mumbo jumbo.

    I don't like how they made intergalactic travel possible. Storytellers never really seem to understand how immense a galaxy actually is. Sure, we have a gate network to get us around but it would still take hundreds of thousands of years to consider even a single galaxy as 'explored'. You don't need a new galaxy in the story, the galaxy you already have is big enough

  • @AlexanderosD

    Agreed, opening up into intergalactic travel is almost too large of a scale. The story has to keep upping itself and starts spilling over into even more absurd levels of story telling in order to match the vastness and grandeur it's trying to cover. Just like a story being told over a series of books, you start out with a small village origin and end up with a global sized overarching story that tries to encapsulate every nation and every character and the story can end up lost in the constant expanding.

    I have always thought that the lack of City Ruins or other habitable structures left behind by the Progenitors signified that they were part of a larger fleet or armada building outposts and hyperplane gates throughout the universe. When they arrived in the Whirlpool Galaxy, they likely conducted research and scanned known sectors while building jump gates and hyper gates in various parts of the galaxy, much like the Ancient Lanteans in Stargate. However, something must have spooked them or interrupted their survey, and they left suddenly, leaving many of their megastructures incomplete or partially finished. These incomplete structures degraded over thousands of years and were eventually discovered by the homeworld races, such as the Bentusi, who were the first interstellar civilization to travel the Whirlpool Galaxy. The fact that all races in the galaxy are human suggests that the Progenitors may have seeded life using their genome as a template. While the Progenitors were only a Type 2 civilization, which is inferior to the Forerunner Type 3.8/9 civilization in HALO, or the Megalithic Enigmatic civilization in Mass Effect Andromeda, which is a Type 3.0/1 civilization, they should have left behind remnants of their civilization, such as cities or space habitats throughout the galaxy.

  • @nikkotan2840

    @nikkotan2840

    25 күн бұрын

    @@deviantMystro In the realm of hypothetical science, it is widely accepted that advanced civilizations can be grouped into three types based on their ability to build and generate energy to sustain their civilization. Type 1 civilizations possess the ability to control everything in their world by utilizing advanced technology similar to that depicted in Star Trek. Type 2 civilizations, on the other hand, possess the capability of constructing Megastructures and generating colossal amounts of energy by means such as the Progenitor. Finally, the most advanced Type 3 civilizations can build Gigastructural Objects, comprehend the fundamental Laws of Physics and other Laws of the Universe, travel through Intragalactic Space, and manipulate their Home Galaxy or other Galaxies at will, reminiscent of the Forerunners. There are undoubtedly more advanced types of civilizations, which can only be described as god-like ancient races. I can cite a few examples like the Xeelee from the Xeelee Sequence Novel (a Type 5 or 6 Civilization), The Precursors from HALO (a Type 8 to 10 Civilization), or The Downstreamers from The Manifold Trilogy Novel (a Type 11 to 15 Civilization). Nonetheless, I won't delve too deeply into these civilizations, as they are way beyond our understanding. "At least hypothetically."

The latter, a decentralized civilization of canine-like creatures, also have a raiding culture. It's curious how in sci-fi titles such Homeworld and Halo etc, there are these ancient and long forgotten highly advanced civilizations. All accomunated by the same traits with small differences. In Homeworld for example Progenitors, thought the use of such Hyperspace cores, are able to travel through the while galaxy in an instant. And this might look more advanced. But Forerunners too, that looks apparently less advanced since their hyperspace technology takes days or even weeks to travel the same distances, is able to move much more than simple ships. Imnense megastructures can be moved and if the Forerunners wanted, they could have moved even planets or stars since the mass they was able to drive was of that scale. It might be the space (speculation) also for the Progenitors. But still both these civilizations are no match for the (Halo) civilization of the Precursors. Not only able to seed the whole universe and create life from nothing, but even able to move objects of immense mass (or create them from nothing) through both space and hyperspace in instants with their hyper advanced technology. I'm definitely fashinated and partially obsessed with such advanced and lost civilizations... that's also why I'm a bit disappointed with Homeworld 3... No explanations given about the Progenitors. Maybe the developers have yet to "develop" anything concrete about such important piece of the puzzle? It's unrealistic, otherwise their games will show incongruences about the ruins and the technology showed in the game. So they have just decided to not show anything new. And ok, maybe this means they will make an "Homeworld 4"... but it's better if they will do what it takes to end the cycle.
