If it wasn't for Thom Bell who I believe was working at Atlantic Records they would have been forgotten. There was a list of artists being looked at and the Spinners were at the bottom of the list. Thom Bell looked at the list and said, "I want to work with the Spinners and the rest is history. Thom Bell and Linda Creed began to work with them and their first hit I believe was "Rubberband Man."

Man or Woman, There Will Never Be Another Singer or Entertainer Like Philippe Wynne . He is the Sole Reason terms like Ad Lib, Improvising, Runs, etc., were created to describe what he can do, for example, in between the words ‘Mighty Love’ with a song effortlessly, and here he even Tops (No Pun Intended) the Studio Version of the song and I really did not think that was possible. RIP Philippe. We Will Never Forget You or Your Incredible Talents and Musical Legacy🙏🏽🎤🎼🎹🎭🎫🎟🏆🥇✝️🛐☯️☮️

the all time greats, have DISTINCTIVE voices...they have "something" that no other human being has. And Mr Wynne was one of those singers. The big fella didnt live a long life...only 43 yo, when he made his transition from this world to the next. But just like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Barry White (all young when they died), Wynne left his mark. His genius was such that NOBODY in the music industry has even attempted to sing like he did.

We toured all over the UK with 2 dates in Germany and I date in Paris. I actually saw guitarist extraordinaire Joe Pass at Ronnie Scott’s on my night off. Had a great time and eventually moved to Los Angeles a few years later to play with Bill Withers and wrote songs for Jeffrey Osborne, Chaka Khan, Sergio Mendes, George Duke, David Sanborn, Robert Palmer and “ Carousel “ for none other than Michael Jackson ❤

It hurts my heart to watch this incredibly charismatic & inspirational performance, and know that Phillippe Wynne died of a heart attack at age 43. I honestly think that had he lived longer both he and the other band mates would've reunited, the Spinners would've soared to new heights and given us even more to love and remember them for. Of course this did not happen, and even the last surviving member passed away fairly recently. RIP to all of the Spinner's. You truly shared with us a mighty love!

I agree with you Jonathan. Bobby Smith & Philippe Wynne always did their vocal swaps perfectly, as well as Henry Fambrough. I think Bobby & Philippe were more like brothers. The pic of Purvis, Bobby & Henry standing in front of Philippe’s casket says it all. It was if they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. But on a happy note, we have videos to keep the memories alive. And, Henry is still here, in his 84th year.

They put on a great show every time.... Thom Bell deserves all of the credit for writing and arranging all that made them great. The One and only Spinners Live album is a masterpiece. I saw the Spinners at The Latin Casino in Cherry Hill NJ... six times and at The Valley Forge Music Fair a couple... As a little kid about 13 in 1975 I was a lucky dude to be on the inside.all of the Spinners where so nice to little me, The Philipe era was the best.. Thom Bell came to our house one day with a demo tape, it was "Ruberband Man", told me all would be singing it and after I head it I knew it was a smash... Love you TB. Your are the best ever!

That cat was phenomenal every performance with Phillipe was like going to church, rest in glorious peace black brother. And that sentiment is extended to all the rest of this wonderful group that are no longer with us.

Philippe Wynne was only known to me as Rev or Roy Abram when he told me who he was I certainly believed him as we had mutual musical friends. He always stated Phillipe Wymne died but I was looking right at him.. he sang to us and Detroit every day. He finally passed out in 22 September. After quitting Fame and fortune he became a Christian m I minister family man with daughters galore. Sang Sadie to me on my front porch. It was a blessin😢g to hear him sing. No music just his voice

ALL young people watching: THIS is what I love about our Black people / African Americans! 70's soul at its finest. If you don't know this music, its sound, its feeling, its people, well then, YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN before you leave the planet. #AMightyLove #CLASSIC #TheBestMusicEver!!! #TheRhythm #TheHarmony #TheStyle #ThePride #TheShomanship A-1!!! PS. Most of all #THELOVE!!! That's what's missing. That's what the Spinners music was about. That's what we gotta go back to!!!

I saw them around this time at the Valley Forge Music Fair near Philly. I was 9 or 10 and it was the first concert I ever attended (I was too young to understand that the way they closed the show was an act and thought that Philippe was really refusing to leave the stage against the wishes of the rest of the group.). The Spinners of the Philippe Wynne era will never be topped.
