At 74 Johnny Horton was a legend in my time. I grew up on his music and loved it.

I was born in 1959 but i love to here Johnny hortons songs all of them.

Also Johnny was married to Billie Jean, the same woman Hank Williams was married to when he died. Hank played his last show at the Skyline club in Austin, Johnny was heading to the Skyline at the time of his death.

Actually, I thought Johnny was on his way back to Louisiana to do the Louisiana Hayride at the time of his death.

he was also obsessed with contacting the dead. he had a shed built in his back yard where he and others of the same beliefs would try to contact the dead. his children were afraid of it and referred to it as the spook shack.

@@rudolfsteyr5228she was states away from both of them at the time of both of their deaths. Hank and her didn’t have any children and only got 30k from his estate after his death. Yes that is a lot but compared to his whole estate it wasn’t really anything. Audrey, Hanks first wife with whom Hank Jr. Was born got the estate her and Hank Jr. Billie Jean and Johnny did have children together and were married a lot longer than her and Hank. It’s very sad she had to go through all that.

Johnny Horton also gave his favorite Guitar to Merle Kilgore just before his death, and when Merle asked Johnny why he was giving his guitar away, Johnny told him that he would no longer be needing it because he knew he was about to die.

Johnny Horton is buried in Bossier City, LA. Over the years I have traveled through Bossier and stop and pay my respects when I have time. My father called him " The Singing History Book " which does seem fitting.

Johnny Horton has a hollowed place in my family. The battle of New Orleans was my grandpa‘s favorite song. I was born in 1957. My grandpa had a 80 acre farm in Jerome Idaho. From the time I was old enough to walk I would go irrigating with him. And we would sing the battle of New Orleans. It was probably the first song I ever knew all the words to. That’s one song when I hear it immediately transform back in time walking with my grandpa with my little plastic shovel over my shoulder, imitating him and singing that song.

I listened to sink the Bismarck everyday and the battle of new Orleans as a contractors assistant on the USS Abraham Lincoln. It was awesome. Surreal. Not far from where he was a singing fisherman. Right across the lake there! Rip. I still play the battle of new Orleans every Fourth of July! ❤🎉

Started listening to him in late 2019 at the age of 15 and now I’m 20 still a big fan.

I knew a Johnny Horton. He was actually related to the singer. This one was known as the Singing Fisherman. Louisiana Hayride manager Horace Logan told a story about them going fishing for supper. The hotel manager had been stiffed by musicians, so insisted on being paid in advance. This group had a good fish fry. George Jones saved aside enough money for a bottle of whiskey. There is at least one biography on Johnny Horton. It has photos of him singing Johnny Reb to an aged Confederate veteran. There was also a phrase he promised to send back to Merle Kilgore. This would be proof of an afterlife. Logan noted that Horton was one of the few Louisiana Hayride stars who didn't move to the Grand Ole Opry. Another was Slim Whitman. You should do a video on this yodeling singer who made a big comeback thanks to a mail order ad.

There's a lot we don't know about what happens when we leave our life on earth. But as the saying goes, it will all be revealed in the fullness of time. For now, I guess we are just to make the most of the time God's given us.

I was between 6&8 when my mom was living with her friend, I was visiting her for the weekend, and I had a premonition that her friend was in a car accident. I saw the accident, the car position, the items in the car, the injuries her friend had, etc. The phone rang and I looked at my mom and told her it was the police to let her know her friend was in a car accident, but she was ok. Mom looked at me strange, answered the phone, and it was the police. She was shocked. Lol she told that story a lot and it's one of the few memories I have clear as day as a young child. I've had other things that were just feelings. My sister and I are strangely connected to the point of I'm hurting in a specific place, she'll hurt too. I've had panic attacks and I'll call her and she's been super stressed and a couple times I felt panic and called her and she had been either in an accident or almost in one. One of the times, she was ran off the road and had looked at the time when she stopped. I had looked at the clock when I felt a sudden panic and called her. She asked me if it was one of my feelings, and I said yes. She's not my twin, she's 11 years younger than me. Throughout her childhood, she could always find me while playing hide and seek. We would have youth trips and with other friends and family and play the game. No one could find me, but she could every single time. We can look at one another and talk through body language, which I can do that with others who I'm around enough as well. It's just interesting how much we can feel and the connection we have despite our age difference and such. We share a dad and have different moms. It's even more funny that I'm more like my bonus mom than either bio parent. 😅 I love how close my sister and I are and that extra connection is really cool. We get one another more than anyone else we've ever met family or friends wise. I've also had certain dreams about people and I wake up panicked, worrying about them, so I check on them to see if they're ok and every time they've had something going on. It's weird, but cool.

I was born in 1956. So I wish Johnny Horton was not killed by a drunk driver and he lived a full lifespan. If Johnny Horton lived a full lifespan, there is an excellent chance I would been able to buy tickets and see him in concert!

I cross that spot weekly.. I’m a truck driver and made a short video it’s on my page… such a sad story he was driving from Austin back to Shreveport after a show … good story I had never heard.. thanks

He was an amazing artist. Never looked into how he died until I ran across your video very strange . Thanks for sharing I just know I have always enjoyed his music .

The story I heard was that the song was Honky Tonk Man. Dwight Yoakam coverd it in 1986 it reached #3 in 1986. I have a two cd set of Johnny Horton's hits and in the booklet it states his premonition, he was asked by someone if he had a vision and he said that it came like a whisper. He would stay in his dressing room until it was time to perform and he would leave as soon as he was finished because he felt a drunk would kill him in a Honky Tonk but as it turned out a drunk driver killed him. The truck was all over the road, it was hitting both sides of the bridge they had no way to avoid it. It went through the car like a can opener opening a can that's what one of the survivors said.

Ward Bond died of a heart attack on the same day in 1960. Both were in Texas.

Hello, Bob, it's me again. I got another suggestion for you. Can you do a video on The song 3 steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I heard that that was a true story.

The spot where he died is supposedly haunted too, the accident happened on an old bridge somewhere in Texas from memory. There was a video of a guy who spent the night in his car under that very bridge on KZread and weird things were happening like sounds and flashing lights and he was completely freaking out but sadly it seems to have been taken down now or I just can’t find it.

I heard this story some years back that Johnny Horton told that to a number of people.

Johnny Horton was a great musician and he did loose his life. In a wierd way. Jim Croce died to young also

I will have his albums on 33lp what a great voice he had! Another great taken far too soon .

A couple more items, for the list. He married the widow of Hank Williams. Johhny's last concert, was in the same venue, as was Hank Williams in 1952.

I always thought, wrongly, that Johnny Horton was the singer on the old song, "Wolverton Mountain" but he wasn't. Another guy did that one.

Claude King made a hit of Wolverton Mt. I think it was written by Merl Killgore. The song was based on his maybe Uncle Clifton Clowers who lived here in Arkansas on Woverton Mountain which is north of Morrilton. One of my friends went to Wolverton Mt and visited with Mr Clowers at his farm some years ago.

CB radios weren't around in 1960.. Plus, music wasn't played on CB radios..

One story fits all

I like Johnny Horton's music and he perhaps felt like he might die young. My nephew felt that same way and he also died young, at the age of 34 a couple years ago. However after we pass we go to one of two places according to the Bible. And there is only one way to avoid the one and enter the other.
