Lyrics:
Stop your messing around
Better think of your future
Time you straighten right out
Creating problems in town
Rudy
A message to you, Rudy
A message to you
Stop your fooling around
Time you straighten right out
Better think of your future
Else you'll wind up in jail
Rudy
A message to you, Rudy
A message to you
Stop your messing around
Better think of your future
Time you straighten right out
Creating problems in town
Rudy
A message to you, Rudy
A message to you, Rudy
Oh, it's a message to you, Rudy
Yeah, it's a message to you, Rudy

It's Rico Rodriguez. He's pretty legendary and I feel that his work with The Specials got quite well credited. At the time the band was having a string of hits, I'm pretty certain that anyone following their music in the UK, at least, would have known his name.

The Amazing Jerry Dammers 🖤🤍
I feel like sharing my knowledge with you today: for those who do not know the story already, the "rudy" of this song is not a person. In fact, it refers to the slang term "rude boy" (rude boy-rudie-rudy) that originated in Jamaica in the early '60 to define an individual who belongs to a specific sub-culture where ska and rocksteady are the main musical genres. As you can imagine, the term "rude" refers to the not exactly in-line-with-the-law lifestyle they had: "better think of your future" "else you'll wind up in jail" in the lyrics clearly refers to that. This particular subculture heavily influenced the mods and the skinheads, particularly in the look. And in in regards of music too , obviously, since the genre oi! is heavily influenced by ska. Hope you'll find this interesting.

Me... I have this song on single 😊
From Russia with love. In the post-Soviet space, especially in the 2000s, popular performers playing quasi-ska and reggae, most similar to 2-Tone, were pleased. Of the officially published British bands in the USSR, I remember only UB-40. The Specials, due to controversial lyrics, did not pass the Soviet censorship, but their records, obtained illegally, were definitely in use among young people interested in Western culture. At least Yegor Letov, the legendary leader of the Grazhdanskaya Oborona band and the Siberian punk movement, included the Specials in his list of favorite bands.
I'm Italian and I'm living the quarantine against Codv-19. This song make me happy and it gives me hope.

I grew up in small-town Quebec. I discovered the Specials when I walked into a Canadian Tire store one day and they had a bin of eight-track cassettes on sale. I was a punk wanna-be in a small francophone town in the early eighties. I had heard of the Specials but had never heard ska music before that day. I took a chance and bought the cassette and have never looked back. Forty years later and I am still listening to ska and even my French-Canadian husband loves it. Very sad news!! 😢 Terry Hall was part of my youth. Watching this studio / video on BBC TV was really brilliant!! I loved the music, style, excitement, authenticity, working class street vibe and the energy. A great band front man who used his musical talent to give the youth of the 1980’s generation hope, inspiration and unity. A very successful musician who was always humble and compassionate. A beautiful human being taken from us far too early. We love you, Terry. Thank you for the wonderful memories. RIP 💔😢💐
R.I.P. Terry Hall. What a legacy.
RIP Terry. A lifetime of love for these 'special' tunes. 💖
I have a special love for the U.K. Ska. Was a cool moment in time for music to me. Loved the blending.
Part of My youth died yesterday. Rest In power Terry. 🤍

Just heard this on a movie called GOLD BRICK and played it. I've heard it all my life and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT
only got to see them live once ,but what a night
Quite sad to hear the death of Terry Hall.... As a French schoolboy, I went to England to learn English during one month at Saint Austell. I met an English girl who introduced me to some great English music. The Specials were part of this introduction, and I am very nostalgic of the song "Too Hot" because I kissed a girl for the first time while listening to that song. So thank you, Terry Hall and all the bandmates for this great memory in my life. And thanks to Sarah for that kiss. Live long, The Specials
