Madness - One Step Beyond (Official 4k Video)

Don't Watch That. Watch This...You are watching the official upgraded 4K video for One Step Beyond by Madness!
Click here for more Madness: madnessband.lnk.to/bestofID
The song that provides the opening salvo to Madness' 1979 debut album of the same name. Who can forget the first time they heard the immortal, booming words of Chas Smash commanding "Don't watch that, watch this!"? The song is still the opener for nearly every live show they play; a veritable, instantly unifying call to arms for casual and die-hard fans alike. The video finds the boys at North London's Hope & Anchor pub, where they played many of their early gigs.
Lyrics
Hey you, don't watch that, watch this
This is the heavy heavy monster sound
The nuttiest sound around
So if you've come in off the street And you're beginning to feel the heat
Well, listen buster You better start to move your feet to the rockinest,
Rock steady beat of Madness.

@@brendanagy6205 May I respectfully suggest that your view is not held universally? I understand that you have trouble moving due to your personal medical issue and empathise from experience of my own personal medical problems, but I will also say from personal experience that I am able to occasioanally transcend my limitations to fully enjoy dance movement like that. I am limited due to a potentially deadly cancer that I survived due to exceptional medical treatment. I developed fibromyalgia due to the stress of either the treatment that saved my life, or the trauma of the original illness, or posssibly a combination of both those events. Following that I suffered an accidental spinal injury that without emergency medical intervention would have seen me paralysed from the waist down. I've been extremely fortunate that timely medical intervention has saved me from paralysis or very much worse. I thank my lucky stars daily that this happened for me, and try to enjoy as normal a life as I can manage. Sometimes it is a difficult effort as it causes pain that I never experienced before my illness or injuries, but I never regret the effort it costs me as the payoff is briefly experiencing life as it was before I fell ill. I will keep putting in the effort as long as I live, and as long as I have strength to push back against my limitations. I would never suggest that someone should fight so hard that they worsen their health to push themselves toward recovery as that would just be selfish and stupid, but I can suggest that someone could exceed their own expectations if they have competent medical support. I listened to such support and found myself in a better place becuase of it. It is up to the individual to determine if their support is competent. Good luck to you Brenda, I hope your medical support can help you to improve your own personal situaton.

Saw them live last month, was so hyped up when they started preforming this song! Best night of my life, went with my best mate and she saw her ex best freind it was fucking hilarious!! I actually hadent been a super massive madness fan untill about 2 months before i went to the concert, but id listened to them for about a year before and i had quite alot of there songs on my playlist (out of 3,000 songs on my playlist so not a whole lot of madness on the scheme of things) but i always enjoyed them but wasent super into there music like i am now, but was a big enough fan of them to warrent going to one of their concerts, but i knew if i didnt see them when i did, i probably wouldnt get another chance, so i ended up asking my mum (and my freind and her mum)and she was way more than up for it. She'd been to Madstock 1992 and was a massive fan when she was younger, and was honestly was hoping id ask her to go!. I really did enjoy myself, and i have to admit it was my first ever concert being a young, gen z-er, and my mum said it would be a good gig to go to since id never been to one before, and oh my god it was amazing. Spent half the concert just in total shock, but did scream some of the songs loud enough to the point i lost my voice, which was pretty awkward because i had a school play every day for the next week, but was totally fucking worth it. :)

Simple catchy lyrics, no over choreographed dance routines, great song. Bands and producers should take lessons from the Nutty boys on how to create hit records. Proud to have been there. Viva la 80s.

Although I have loved heavy metal and hard rock for 40 years, I always had a soft spot for Madness back in the early 80's and loved their mix of sounds and funny videos. They managed to be able to combine melancholy with joy, somehow, in each track. They were the only pop band whose albums I'd buy each time they came out, even though as I say, I was into heavy metal. 7 ordinary lads, who I doubt would have called themselves musicians when they began or even as they began to have hits, yet they had and continue to have more musicality than the vast majority of the dross that passes as pop music today - by people who take themselves far too seriously.

I think EVERYONE has a soft spot for Madness. Been a DJ for over 12 years now. And everytime I've slung Madness on, people love it. Don't matter whether they're 18 or 80 (ok, that's stretching it a little! you know what I mean though).
