Special shout out to all of my patrons who make these videos possible.
"The Sound of Silence" was originally recorded and released by Simon and Garfunkel in 1964. It was promptly ignored by mainstream radio until it became an unlikely hit in Florida of all places. The tune has been covered by all manner of artists but probably most notably by Disturbed, and now um... by me (wink wink, nudge nudge). Hugs, Y'all!

I had one of a number of surgeries I will need to beat stage four cancer three days ago. Tonight I lay in the recovery bed listening to your songs in a Playlist and the depth and richness of your voice carry a magic with them. They don't make the pain go away, but they push it aside. I listen to you sing and I don't care that the other stuff hurts. So thank you from the bottom of my heart from a random stranger who just found you and likely won't be around to enjoy your future projects. On this day you've worked magic.

there are different levels of bass, and Geoff is more of a low bass, which gives him that depth. he also has his age starting to work in his favor now, he's approaching the age where bass singers really get into their prime. but he also has decades of practice behind him, working on his voice since his teens. he's a great bass singer that inspires many young bass singers who look up to him for his work ethic, his voice and his personality.

Some of my favorite moments: the sound of the piano in general the sound of the word “sound” in the first verse 0:56 the neon light on "when my eyes where stabbed by the flash of a neon light" 1:32 the descending piano after “touch the sound of silence” of the 2nd verse 1:46 the whole section “People writing songs that voices never shared” of the 3rd verse 2:11 - especially the chords on "songs" and "shared" the unexpected chords and twist in “but my words, like silent raindrops fell” 3:07and that you dropped at “fell” 3:14 followed by your backing vocals echoing on the word “echoed” 3:17 in the 4th verse the whole 5th verse is so powerful 3:25 - the drums there are perfect how delightful is it when you sing through your n’s in silennnnce I love the pronunciation of your l’s - like in ‘hello’ 0:21 or ‘left’ 0:38 The humms in between are delightful! 1:05 + 2:36 Actually I love every single moment

Absolutely stunning, so impressive how you told a separate yet parallel story to the lyrics, just with this arrangement. I can’t even imagine it being any better
@billparrish4385

Exactly my reaction! It's like the arrangement itself was a language, one that I didn't realize I knew until Geoff told this story in it. A story told, not with words, but tonal-evoked feelings. This is what a master arranger does with a piece that has been arranged countless times before -- he holds a conversation with us in it.

I don't believe it, he actually pulled it off! I never would have thought he could cover this song and make it vastly different than it's previous versions.
Джефф, Вы великолепны! Россия любит Вас!
How is it possible for a human to create the same deep rumble that a jacked up diesel monster truck has?? How? I love them both. Well maybe Geoff a bit more. 💖
I've been thinking about how well you tell this story. When I listen to other versions of this song, the melody is so repetitive and the lyrics are so abstract and poetic, I tend to lose track of what is actually going on in the song. But you start out so simple, with so much focus on the one voice, and then gradually add visual and musical elements as the song progresses, while still never getting in the way of the simplicity. It just . . . walks me through the narrative and I can follow it better than I ever have before.

Repetitive for sure... this song has 5 verses that are all exactly the same. Trying to do something different for every verse to keep it interesting was a real challenge. Glad all the effort paid off!

@@GeoffCastellucci It did. It totally did. I have a lyrics-first brain, and even so, in listening to others' versions of this song (even Simon and Garfunkel's original), I often forget that this song is someone describing a bad dream in detail, unless I stop to think about it. This arrangement (and video) makes sure I remember. [That wind noise!]

I agree, this version of the song actually brings the lyrics to the focus and I paid much more attention to the message of the song. While David Draiman's rendition is wonderful, the attention on that goes more to the dynamics and voice rather than the message.

to think this a bit further, many have mentioned this version being sad etc. Original, disturbed’s and this has also been referred as a trilogy. And why not, perhaps the original is the ”denial”, d’s version bring the ”anger” and this finally being the ”acceptance”
A silent round of applause for this masterpiece. Bravo Geoff, bravo! 👏👏👏 And Kathy, and Eli, and Layne ... 👏🥳 If you haven't heard it yet, go ahead and applaud anyway; you know it's gonna be amazing! 😁

I usually blame who tries to perform "legendary" song written and sung by "unique voices" because I believe they are unreachable...but I'm glad to know there are few exceptions that keep them alive. God bless you always Geoff 🙌🏻🌈
I never heard of him. I like his voice. It's amazing

3:04 Words can't describe how incredible it is that this low note is as clear as it is, you're an inspiration for me to continue working on my own voice. One day I'd like to have half of my voice sound this clean. To then transition into an equally clean sounding high voice is astounding. You're currently my favorite vocalist in the world, and that's not an exaggeration.
Magic. That's it. Nothing else can explain this one. Somehow it leaves me speechless but with way too much to say at the same time. Your otherworldly vocals, the emotion and overall atmosphere, the lighting (thanks Eli!), the camerawork (and Layne!), the beautiful piano... it all complements the rest so well and turns into something that's just... unreal. You manage to keep raising the bar in everything you do. It's not even a song I much cared to listen to before, yet this version has me captivated. At risk of sounding melodramatic, but on behalf of pretty much everyone: thanks for putting in all the work (you too, Kathy!) to get this one done, Geoff. It was so worth the wait.

Everything works together to tell a beautifully bleak story, from the ebbs and flows of the heartrending arrangement, to the lighting, to the videography. This is a masterpiece. Well done. P.S. This is the one of of the best song I ever heard based on his vocal aerobics mixed of his bass range and tenor range, he is a hybrid of bass and tenor, let’s called him basstenor for his vocal type. The performance of this is so haunting for the setting mixed of his voice or vocal that blending with the darker and light for his tone. He should be in his own band based on what I say. The band name is: Dimension Darkness Blend The Light. I definitely want Geoff to pick his his own band members. What do you think?

😢still can't listen without crying... my father is slowly dying of asbestos cancer. And this song hurts me every time...and then again, it's so unbelievably beautiful 🥹
the delivery of this makes it sound like a hymn, its gourgeous and speaks to me in a way i didnt think possible
I can't even count how many times I got goosebumps and repeatedly returning to a few certain minutes, listening it again and again 🗿 3:53 especially
Holy... Crap.... Seriously. that was a *powerful* rendition. Probably one of the most soulful and touching renditions I've heard of this song.
I’ve never commented on this channel. I felt inept to. My musical skill is limited but my love for it never ends. I’ve loved the original from my earliest childhood memories. Folk music of this nature was part of my history anyway. Simon and Garfunkel were a treasured duo whose music transcended generations. It felt…wrong to defile this song with a cover. These were my thoughts each time it was covered. Until…Disturbed. The raw, edgy vocal range gave birth to a magnificent crescendo that was truly Ravel’s Bolero worthy. I’ll never forget the first time I heard and watched Bolero performed by a live orchestra. It was spell binding. And Disturbed’s powerful cover of this classic became instantly attached to my soul. Having said all of that…I love bass voices and A Capella music. When I stumbled across Mr. Castellucci’s YT channel last year, subscribing was a no brainer. His vocal range is, as one fan called it, nothing short of otherworldly. His genteel manner, his wife’s story, coupled with immense, talent top level entertainment, and charismatic, personal charm, is the whole package. Yet, he remains extremely, relate-ably, human in-spite of talent nigh untouchable by most of us. Still I was skeptical even though I knew his capabilities. I scoffed at a cover of this classic. I watched with intent in my heart to criticize it against my two favorites. And then? The piano…the vocals…the black backdrop. He made this classic masterpiece, which I held in the highest regard, unique. And I was sucked into a new story from the fist note. I was taken on a roller coster ride of emotions. But the roller coaster somehow was not a ride which caused tension, screams, and intense thrills. It was a ride that was somehow, with said range of emotion, soothing, scenic, and thought provoking. Was it entertaining? Mr. Geoff’s creative skills make it so, but not in an invasive way. I was at once aware of him and yet somehow he creatively blended in with the message he eloquently presented so that the music became the star. Mr. Geoff? Hats off, Sir. I am sorry I doubted. Your presented masterpiece is equal to and in its own right tops all others by the very nature of its stand alone qualities. Bravo!
1:29 - 1:30 there is a very brief and very clear and beautiful perfect harmony between the subbass and his voice.
Don´t know how often I´ve been listening to this version so far, it´s truly marvellous, Geoff made sthg incredible out of this great song.....
