The Sound Couple - Wedding, you know you hired a band, not a D.J....don't you?

Музыка

The Sound Couple hit the road for a small upscale wedding. We supported sound for the band, ceremony and cocktail hour in three different locations.
This gig highlights the the precarious position that "sound crew" are placed in when dealing with challenging clients/guests as some treat live music with the same approach as a D.J. and the performance aspects of live music go unrecognized. The "sound crew" are approached as though they have a magic communication process that they can communicate or make the band play any song they want.
We broke out some of our older gear to support this effort (PresSonus RM16). Also, required all six PreSounus 328's to for monitors, cocktail hour and service.

12:00 -- That's my jam... Love Journey Music... only when Steve Perry was the lead vocalist for the band back in the day... Steve has some killer solo albums... which I all have in my CD arsenal (bookcase)...

These venues treat u great. DJs get kick to the curb.. lol I once was told "in 1 hour the alarm will go off". So I packed what I can, I took my equipment out the building and wrapped my wires in the parking lot. Lol

Great point! Especially these wedding venues, you need to watch them and work the schedule backwards to ensure you have enough time to get out. Otherwise, we can squeezed in the middle. The client of course wants you as late as possible, meanwhile, the venue wants everyone the hell out of there. It's more about communication, the average person doesn't think about this so you need to let them know that you need X amount of time to get out..and they go, "oh, ok, we didn't think about that"!

We have been pushing to use clip on mics as often as possible now. We recently purchased Audio Technical ATM 350's and they have been working great for us! If on a stand, we typically will use Shure 57's or Shure 545SD.

Another solution; get a big dude on the drums. Happened this Friday; band members put their drinks on my subs at an outdoor event, despite being told not to and they'll lose them. Within four kicks of the kick drum, the whole lot was on the floor... 😁

    LED LIGHT SETTING TOO LOW

Thanks for observation - we debated this, but sometimes space and overall presentation is of higher priority and consideration over what would ultimately be the best technical solution for production. The client was very particular with aesthetics and to present a clean, least cluttered performance area. We then opted out of putting up more stands and went ahead with the cleaner option of mounting panel lights on speaker stands. Room lighting plays a big role in how successful this approach is and for this night, it worked out in our favor. We evaluate lighting strategies at each gig and usually, we get it right, but agreed, could be an issue in some scenarios. We will try to incorporate more of these discussions in our videos!

Do you used mic for guitar out?

This gig was awhile ago, but if I recall, mic'd one guitar and DI'd out of another. We usually go with whatever the guitar player recommends. If they are comfortable with the DI, we'll use it!

Whoops - wrong gig. We definitely mic'd the guitar at this event.
