knuckles' hesitation in that scene is very forgivable. eggman effectively had a hostage. knuckles knew that if he moved, eggman would have taken action. he could not have prevented it, so he tried reasoning first.

@@calemr The Sonic movie writers are amazing with their characters. Tails isn't entirely some coward who relies on Sonic. Knuckles isn't a dumb meat head protecting an emerald. Just a culturally inexperienced guardian. I can guarantee Shadow will focus less on his edginess. They made him look far more like Sonic, so he's lost some of that edge. Quite literally.

7:54 This can be explained! Knuckles froze because Eggman was the only person he ever trusted. The old hunters he was with had originally captured him in the prologue comic and forced him to fight in a tournament for his life. He’s been traveling through galaxies with enemies, and Eggman was the only person he could depend on, thinking he had formed a bond between them. I like how they take inspiration from the Sonic 3 and Knuckles games. Great video!

To add to the thing about Knuckles freezing up, it's important to remember that in the Sonic movies Knuckles spent most of his life alone and ignorant of most social concepts like friendship. It's entirely possible that, to him, the idea that Eggman would backstab him after helping him as much as he did was inconceivable and he bluescreened for a moment trying to process it. Unlike the Flash where Barry spends a full minute letting every villain monologue or escape for no particular reason, Knuckles at least has the excuse of possibly not having enough experience with other beings to comprehend what was going on or that Eggman intended to betray him from the start.

I'm surprised you never addressed the break-dancing scene in the second movie. I like the scene because it's entertaining, but makes no sense lore-wise since we know Sonic is capable of dispatching an entire room of people in less time than anyone can process. Why bother dancing? Just steal the map! (I know it's meant to be a bonding moment for Sonic and Tails) Also, that Olive Garden ad at the beginning caught me off guard. xD

Devils Advocate: Sonic doesn't want to leave Green Hill, so I think his stalling on leaving can sort of be justified as him dragging his feet on purpose. But if that's what they were going for, they definitely could have shown it better.

Eggman isn't actually a feminist. That piece of trivia in the sonic heroes manual was mistranslated. It's supposed to say that he is a womaniser. Sonics middle name also isn't Maurice, if anything, we have reasons to believe that his real name isn't actually sonic.

Depends on canon. His middle name is Maurice in the Archie comics and in Sonic Prime. In Boom they made multiple jokes about his name being Capable. In standard game canon, he doesn't have a middle name. And Sonic IS his actual name in all canons. In Archie there was an idea for his real name to be Olgilvie, but it got scrapped. And before someone starts, his name was NEVER Mister Needlemouse. That was a mistranslation.

Although the maurice being canon is a bit dubious now, because supposedly sonic prime is in continuity with the games. Also, to elaborate, I think Sonic could actually be a nickname instead of being his "legal" name. For example, Tails' real name is Miles prower, which is formated like a normal name, then the sonic CD manual says that Amy's real name is rosy the rascal, or how SA2 commits to the robotnik family name for eggman. It seems to me that "X the Y" is some sort of title for these characters. Apparently the working name was Mr. Hedgehog.

Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow the Hedgehog, Blaze the Cat, Cream the Rabbit, Shade the Echidna, Big the Cat, Sticks the Jungle Badger, Marine the Raccoon, Jet the Hawk, Vector the Crocodile... If Sonic was the odd one out, then you could have a point that Sonic the Hedgehog is not his real name. But it's Amy and Tails who are the odd ones. And Tails' name implies that the nickname is in quotes between the given and family name, as his is almost always shown as Miles 'Tails' Prower. And Sonic Prime was not confirmed by Sega nor Sonic Team to be canon. It was only said by Logan McPherson - *one* of the shows executive producers. I don't know about you, but I'm not taking words of Hollywood exec over the creators of the franchise.

See it's possible to have a good speedster movie

I disagree with the point about his cutting off the Eggmechs head. Because Sonic probably saw where it was going to land and if it was about to land on anyone, he could have used his speed and strength to catch it. But since there was no one there, he didn't need to. Though I would agree with the point of Sonic just going through Eggmechs foot instead of moving it out of the way so his parents wouldn't get crushed.

Knuckles not having much urgency when Robotnik was monologuing is probably due to the fact that he's not exactly the brightest

I really hope the third in coming film follows the same speed consistancy that the 2 films established.

One thing to take note of while you're finishing season 4 of The Flash regarding his newfound speed (even ignoring the Flashtime episode): In s1 ep3 Cisco explains that each prison cell in Star Labs has an extremely powerful electromagnet which makes the glass barrier 100,000 times stronger than Earth's magnetic field. And at the end of s4 ep1, Barry shattered the whole seal with his sheer speed. To escape Earth's gravity, you'd need to be going 11.2 km/s. Multiply that by 100,000 and you have 1,120,000 kilometers per second. That's 2,505,368,647mph. *The Flash can run well over 3 times the speed of light.* That's how fast he got from spending time in the speed force. There should be absolutely nothing that poses a threat to him anymore, and it makes any scene where a non-speedster beats him or escapes make Barry look goofier.

While I enjoy your point, it is not quite accurate. Earth's escape velocity depends on gravity, not the magnetic field. Iirc, Earth's magnetic field is quite weak. But I think the crux is that the glass barrier is supposed to be 100,000 times stronger than the magnetic field? How is that supposed to work?

@@kleingrrmpf 100,000 times the magnetic field to my knowledge is only like 100N or something, aka 1/25th that of a punch from an ameteur boxer. A regular person would only need to wail on the glass for a few seconds before it crumbled like a cookie.

@@kleingrrmpf I _believe_ that it means that the glass' structure is held together by a magnet and that the glass is laced with metal or something, and if I'm right then the magnets aren't defending the glass, they're supporting it. And what I'm pointing out is that no matter how you splice it that glass isn't going to stand up to a regular human punching it a bunch or shoulder tackling it.
