    This is by far the easiest way up the mountain, as the route is never in doubt, and its a fairly straight forward slog up the southern side of the mountain. If your going up the mountain in the depths of winter, with heavy snow cover, this route is by far the safest route. The most dangerous routes in full winter conditions are the Miners and PyG tracks, as its all on wet shiney rock, much of which is frozen over the higher up you go. The notorious ziz zags, near the top of both paths, has claimed quite a few lives over the years.

    A couple of weeks ago did this route with my daughter. The following day we did most of tryfan. Daughter ended up being helicoptered off the mountain!

    Tryfan is quite a step up from the Ranger Path. I have a video about the dangers of Tryfan coming out this week, keep an eye out for it. What happened with your daughter on Tryfan?

    I always think it's a fraction easier than the Llanberis path as it's a little over half a mile shorter, and there are two 0.5 mile sections of the Llanberis path which are very steep and the ascent for both paths is about the same.

    I like this route, see my recent video showing the circular route that connects the llanberis Path to this route, you may want to consider it if you fancy going down a different to the one you went up.

    On the Snowdon Ranger Path? No scrambling but suitable for dogs that like long walks and assuming it's not too hot. I've taken a Mini Schnauzer and a Labradoodle on the Watkin Path but had to lift them over a rock at one point so that's the limit I've taken dogs.

    Looks like a really nice route, good info to know that you can pay for the parking by card. My only concern with this route is whether the car park gets busy as it looks small on Google maps and I've heard that some of the car parks get very busy in peak times, I don't suppose you know if the car park in this video tends to fill up or if there's usually spaces? I'm planning on doing it on a weekday so hopefully it will be fine, and there is also a car park just down the road at the start of the Rhyd Ddu route as a backup.

    Tbh all the car parks fill up quickly in the summer on weekends. Ranger and Rhyd Ddu are less popular routes so have smaller car parks. I usually go weekdays and I'm an early bird so never have problems getting a space. If Rhyd Ddu is full as well, you can park on the B4418 (Here: what3words.com/finishes.outreach.pocketed ) as there's a few spaces on the corner. I recommend going early during school hols or weekends.

    Hi i just came across yr vlog while doing some research on climbing Snowdonia for the first time in middle of October. In your opinion which is better to do this path or Llanderis path. Thanks for the info.

    I would check the weather and if it will be a clear day, I would go up the Llanberis Path and down the Snowdon Ranger Path, there is a path that goes back to the town of Llanberis (see: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o46D1smdnNqZopM.html ). If the weather forecast was for poor visibility, I would just go up and down the Llanberis Path, if it were my first time. Overall, I prefer the Snowdon Ranger Path because it's quieter and the views are a bit better.

    Most find it easy to follow, but just be careful on the descent off the summit as the Rangers Path forks off of the Llanberis Path and it's easy to miss in poor visibility.

    Am I correct in thinking there is a train from Caernavon stopping at the bottom of both the Snowdon Ranger path and the Rhydd Dhu Path so one could go up the one and down the other

  • @thebaldscrambler

    @thebaldscrambler

    Yes, the train stops at both stations which are at the start of the routes. The trains allow hop-on and hop-off subject to seat availabiity. I spoke to a guard last year and he said they allocate some seats for those wanting to travel between intermediate stations on a first come, first served basis, the rest are pre-bookable for those wanting to take the whole route. I'm not sure of prices and times etc but I'm sure it's online.

    You'll probably need to pre-book the train ticket, esp on weekends. I use the AllTrails app, rather than Google Maps. There is a bus station at the foot of the Ranger Path but getting back to Llanberis is a bit of a faff with limited buses and I think you'll need to change buses. If you want to go down the Ranger Path, you can take the connecting footpath back to Llanberis, it's 4.5km long and clearly signposted from the Ranger Path, see my video which shows the signpost - kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5eilchvn62_hqg.htmlsi=tuP1gBQDdQdw1dAK&t=36
