The new animation technique looks amazing like everything else in the mod, my only two complaints are the cel-shaded character models that don't match the game's global illumination and the inconsistent over-simplified vegetation textures. But like I said before, everything else looks amazing and I can't wait for more.

@@powerhourcollective I'm pretty sure that's what they mean. This could be solved by introducing (or, if there's already one added, modifying) a toon shader instead of using a flat texture (color).

I love the detail where you 'fixed' Apu's hand in the cutscene, so he's actually grabbing the vent instead of his hand just hovering in the original

It's the same, just kind of squished down vertically! To add to this, I believe the rest of the texts say "Sponge Vacuum" (based on the "Sponge and Vacuum" magazine) "Cat Fancier" for the bottom left. And my best guess for the last one is "NOYB MAGAZINE" for the bottom right one. Apparently "NOYB" can mean "None Of Your Business" which would fit with Fat Tony on the cover.

Yep except in the show it's called Peephole Magazine, obvious 'People' parody, and the blurb on that is "NEW LOOK FOR LUKE" I thought at first the in game 'weird' one might have been a parody of MAD magazines, but seems not. Wonder why they changed it from the one in the show?

Those animations are looking god tier man I hope people appreciate how smooth they actually are, also i think the shadows create a lot more depth and finalise the animations imo

My only feedback js that i prefer some of the originals fonts on some posters, the retirement home sign etc and it would be cool for the 4$ price on the register to be its original green colour instead of white. Apart from that though the remaster is looking amazing :) And for your poll, shadows sometimes. It fits in better with the classic feel you're going for and it makes the shadows in night scenes more impacful visually

Amazing work as always. My only critique is everything is starting to look too clean and sharp. Maybe add some fading and roughness to the black/pencil lines to reclaim that hand drawn look. Otherwise I am amazed how much of an improvement this is. My major worry is what happens when you get near completion and licensing problems.

Like all good things, we let the mod mysteriously "disappear" except for strange, totally leaked and not official "reuploads" that change version numbers every few months. Copyright be damned if they let him get this far.

@@AlternateKek Now i dont know if its appicable but for a game CDDA that had copyright images that they didnt want to keep on the offical launcher. so they settled for the person who made the tilepack seperate on a githud download link to manually install.

The game is abandonware at this point,. Nobody is going to send out C&Ds

I think for some things it doesn't need to have a solid black outline to it like the retirement castle sign. Cause the solid red stands out against the background of the sign enough on its own. It can also help with the sign looking too dark cause the black outline. If there's not enough space between the lines, can make the color inside look darker than it really is. Also, shadows always could help make certain parts of characters stand out and give a scene more of an impact. But then it does lose that classic show feel so it's hard for me to decide if thats worth giving up.

Great progress! I think Apu is going to need more gestures when he speaks for the cutscene, but Bart's deadpan delivery fits well with him being completely still

I agree. I think you can do something simple as Apu looking through the vent for a bit longer before putting his attention to Bart while sharing the detail of what's going on. Nothing too crazy or time consuming, I feel.

A shrug from bart would help

for PCSX2 try hitting F9 to change the emulator from software renderer to hardware so it could draw from your GPU instead of your CPU, otherwise I'm not sure besides changing the graphics settings and making sure you're using your GPU as your primary renderer, though different bugs happen for some games depending on hardware/software rendering, so this might not even be a solution. Hope this helps!

also sometimes turning off multi-thread rendering helps, depending on the particular emulator your computer is trying to pretend to be the original hardware, which causes a lot of strain cause it can't understand the game's code natively, since it's built to run on the OG console based on it's very specific hardware specs

This remaster project has been a wild ride, and it's always really cool to see each of these videos showing your development process! Here's to one year on the mod, and I can't wait for the next year!

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I don't care for the simpsons or this game in particular, but I LOVE this project from an artistic point of view. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to see more of this.

your doing an amazing job. my vote is for the occasional shadow for when the scene needs it, for dramatic effect. fits the classic Simpsons style, like watching an episode.

Ahh its so amazing to see how far this has come!! I think the only thing I can critique is the lack of body movement in the cutscene with apu and bart as in the show and the games there is always a little bit of movement. Can't wait to see more!

i think the shadow is adding a lot of interest in the characters cutscenes. Also if you can make the game characters have that shadow(more like a shading ) i think will look more appealing . wonder if the tree textures can be animated just few frames to give more life to the game. Truth be told, if the game uses "Shadows always" it makes sense to go with that. It'd look closer On the other hand, the fact that someone put in the time and energy to animate it period is already pretty good

Looks great! As for the shadows, they would help in breaking up the forms, but just keep it pretty light.

I 100% think you should do shadows always. It adds another layer of loving detail without compromising the art direction. It makes it feel "premium" if that makes sense, much like the sensation we get watching the Simpsons Movie for the first time versus the TV show, those extra character shadows add more visual depth to the characters and make it feel like what we're watching was made with extra care, and this presses the feel good button in the back of my brain which is the best way I can sum it up. p.s. I have watched these since the very start of the series and it has been exciting and enthralling to watch you progress through a game that I invested hundreds of hours into before we could even track that with software. Keep up the great work!

the texture work and the improving progress on this mod never ceases to amaze me. it always felt like the Hit & Run remaster we never got but instead found form a parralel universe. i'm amazed! all that aside, regarding the more obscure In-show references, there's a whole Wiki for SHAR as well as a Tvtropes page dedicated to listing all the series references if that could help (cannot send the links since youtube is working weird for those type of comments)

dude I use to play this game all the time on the PS2 and seeing one of my favorite PS2 games get remastered makes me so excited. I wish you all the luck with this project

this looks great, just one thing. im pretty sure the text of the springfield retirement castle is supposed to represent the font of the series. Also the magazine in the kwik e mart of the weird crushed up face is from the episode “Krusty gets Kancelled”.

It's amazing what you are doing. I love the trees 2D and also the complex ones. the animation looks great and it's alot of work, the bart that you showed the eyes don't blink on the pupils don't move, kind lifeless looking.

A little suggestion on the Apu and Bart animation, perhabs Bart could blink once or twice so he looks more natural and relaxed! Great work!!

Looking great as usual! ✨ Although I think that when bart is responding to apu you should give him some eyelids (similar to what you had to do for the marge animation) and maybe even have him shrug his shoulders a little.

3:03 that is the Weird magazine (parody of WIRED), if I'm not mistaken. Love your work!

I think that overall, the results are amazing, and the cutscenes especially have been remade to almost utter perfection, and the effort you put into remaking these cutscenes is just insane. The one problem I do have with the cutscenes is that sometimes, the lips don’t really match what the characters are saying, which I’ve noticed a couple of times through these videos. Still though, it’s just a nitpick I’ve had to point out, and the rest of the progress is still going strong so far, and I hope to find out what it’s like as you keep on doing work on the mod.

For the Snowball mag, it says "EAT FANCIER", Fat Tony's says "MYOB MAGAZINE", the sponge one (I think) says "sponge & vacuum, and the weird face one is very appropriately named "weird". As for the face, I know it's not actually this, but I think it's a missed opportunity to be a reference to the lemon-sucking face from the Shelbyville episode.

I believe the magazine names in the Kwik-E-Mart names are >Peephole (though it says Weird in-game) >Sponge and Vacuum >Cat Fancier >Noyb(?) (Maybe a misspell of Tony since he's on there)Magazine Aside from maybe the last one, all of them have appeared in the show. You can find a few of them on the Simpsons wiki under the Magazines category

For the Bart and Apu animation shown here, I think that would be slightly better if they moved a little bit, rather than just standing still. Even something like just Bart's eyelids going down to half-closed (thinking something like "jitome eyes" from anime) while saying his line. I totally get if you're trying to not stray too far from the original animation, but I think this would help it a lot! Other than that, every single update on this has always been amazing! I'm excited to see what more you can do!

Pretty amazing to see one of my favorite childhood games come back like this :D only thing I would say is that the characters look a bit off compared to the lighting/shadows in their surroundings, its very visible here 1:40 the lighting of the kik e mart in the remake stays true to the lighting in the OG and it makes the characters stand out. i know it isnt done though and even as is it looks amazing, very hyped for this :D

From what I can tell the first magazine is "Weird", the top right is 'Sponge Vaccum", the bottom left is "Cat Fancier" and the bottom right is difficult but from what it looks like it looks like it says 'NOYB (None of your Business) Magione (Manor is Italian). And the face and name of the first one might be a reference to Mad Magazine maybe? Or a reference to an episode where Homer reads a Wired magazine and says why there is no Weird magazine. No idea haha but thats all of them! :)

I bet if an official remaster gets announced they will just hire this guy.

It's insane how much work you've put into this, and it looks amazing If I could make 1 small nitpick, when Bart says "I knew there was a simple explanation" I think it would work better if Bart has a more sarcastic look on his face, I imagine they didn't do that in the original since It wouldn't have been conveyed very well. But given how hard you've already worked on this, it's a very minor thing

I don't think shadows affect much of the authentic look of the classical traditional hand-made cel animation but it does look nicer. It also fits well since they are cutscenes for a video game which is a larger project than one episode for a TV show like a movie.

I got a small little suggestion, maybe you could bend the new character model's fingers, they seem a bit stiff unlike the old models that had a more natural hand position. the mod is looking amazing dude, keep it up!!!

The hand drawn animation looks really good, I would add more movement to their head/body if possible, just to make them less stiff. I also agree you should add some roughness to the lines. You should also try tracing all the fonts, It’ll probably look better.
