Nicely done! I appreciate sites like yours (TJH3113, Isslamow, jonannlou) in that I'm able to see the bass line being played, and all the nuances that make it musical. Thank you for your efforts.

Very nice, you've done a great job on the finger picking, so many other covers just have a constant run all the way through but you've really nailed it.

Well done! I wasnt sure if its E or D now I know thanks to you. How is it that you have such constant clear tone? I'm playing bass for 16 years now yet I'm not always so clear in tone as you!

Great playing...one question - why do bass players tend not to use a pick?

  • @kingsecho3351

Some do. I use one sometimes. Just depends on what kind of tone you want. If it’s something really fast moving I tend to go with a pick.

Thanks - as a novice guitar player, that makes sense - I prefer NOT to use a pick, but sometimes I have to use one (particularly when I need to up-stroke)

Yea exactly. Some songs on bass just like when fingerpicking on an acoustic or electric guitar sound better than using a pick. Can you imagine Sultans of Swing played with a pick?? It wouldn’t sound right. If you are a good guitarist you can get some nice touches added just using your fingers. I imagine you know your stuff. Study some STP basslines. Just great stuff. It will help you even get more creative with improv

STP = Stone Temple Pilots? One thing I do have to now remember is not to cut the fingernails on my strumming hand too short - I also try both pick AND fingers on most songs - just to gauge what will sound better. Also not using a pick means one less thing to carry about ;-)
