Thanks! I have not been making many public videos since starting to work for the UAF SMART Academy and having most of my video made for STEM classes I teach, but I am trying to get more public videos up this year. Thanks for stopping by!

I cant believe they've fallen out of popularity. It's amazing how docile they were, letting you pet them! I want to raise some!

They are an awesome breed. I find most rabbits are pretty friendly if you handle them often, bur Silver Foxes are special.

Thanks from East Coast Canada for the awesome bluegrass music to go with a great Silver Fox video! Some other vids say this breed is ok with cold weather.

Thanks for stopping by. They are one of the best cold weather breeds because of the long hair. Rabbits are very cold hardy as a rule making them the best livestock to have on an Alaskan homestead :-D

The info is why I subscribed but the great intro @ 0:14 was the icing on the cake !!!

Silver Foxes are my favorite breed although I've only seen an american chinchilla once at a rabbit show and can see why you would want one :) Good on you!

how do u know if you have a silver fox i have a doe that was all black lived in a meat farm and i brought her where i live its nothing but mountains i ask because her fur changed color to white streaks

Depends on if you are talking pure breed or not just silver fox looking. Silver fox rabbits with a petigree have a bit longer fur than your average rabbit, are black with silveing, weigh 9-12 lbs and have ancestors with these traits for at least 3 generations (although blue and red ressive genes are fine to have in the line). If you want a mutt that looks like a sliver fox, then the silvering and long hair is really all you are looking for.

Looking to add a breed to our only-Californian farm. It appears that your breeding stock has led to under-weight Silvers. What is your plan to correct that?

We want to out breed to black New Zealands or a far better genetic line of Foxes that has the size and growth speed the breed is supposed to have and line breed from the best mixed Silvers from there, but the local genentic pool is very limited and with COVID traveling to an ARBA show out of state to get better stock has not been an option so we have been breeding the biggest, fastest growing mutts in hopes of getting bigger faster growing genes in the population. The process is slow and I have had little success so far (infertile bucks and bad mothers was the story of lost summer). You don't get best of show bunnies over night. Depending on what you are breeding for with your califorians, I would not recommend foxes unless you really like the longer haired pelts. If you are going for increased size or growth rate get papered New Zealands, whites have been most optimized for commerial use (although Califorians are generally also commerial as I am sure you know.)

Thanks we will keep the videos coming. The livestock conservancy used to list Silver Foxes as an endangered breed. They have come up in popularly in the last decade or so, but it seems like most breeder are located on the west coast of the US (although my sample is a bit biased since my parents live in the area, so has been the place I've looked for increasing the genetic diversity in my herd).
