    FYI.. Any one of those items would dull any knife drastically and after successfully slicing through that many items and still not dulling the knife at all basically because it was still able to slice through free hanging paper with ease is amazing. Because paper under tension cuts easily but freehanging paper is pushed away from the blade by the blade. You might rip through it but to slice cleanly through it, requires a very sharp blade. That's why the people were in awe when it sliced cleanly through the paper.

    I hate to burst peoples bubbles, but this is not a knife cutting competition. This is a blacksmith and competition in Dallas Texas so what they are doing is basically the same thing that the TV show forged and fire are doing. They are testing to see if it cuts, and they are testing to see how durable and strong, this knife is

  • @careyfuel3278
    @careyfuel32783 ай бұрын

    Those cuts are MORE than just about the sharpness of the blade. The weight, force applied, and technique all equally influence the cutting prowess

  • @Thegreywanderer42
    @Thegreywanderer424 ай бұрын

    The paper cut is impressive because for a cut to happen there needs to be stability or a rip/tear will happen. Paper being as flimsy as it is means there is less stability and a higher chance of something other than a pristine cut to occur. The knife cutting through the paper like that after the abuse it had just received is a testament to the quality of steal and the skill of the blacksmith.

    Dude really? You don't pay attention to much detail do you? Tryna be all sophisticated but you've wandered into the grey. The knife was sharpened on both sides. He never used the part that he used to cut the paper at the end, and he used the tip of the knife, ensuring he wouldn't have used that part on anything else. You didn't notice his body language? The commenter pointed it out. Why would a grunt knife hacker require so much concentration? BECAUSE HES PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT PART OF THE KNIFE HES USING SO HE DOESNT BOTCH THE DEMONSTRATION! This is backyard forging by non professionals for the most part. This wasn't Damascus steel nor Valyrian steel from Ose. Anyone who could actually forge a blade that could take that type of abuse then cut paper like this would be a billionaire. And, big AND, using paper isnt the demonstration used to determine how sharp an edge is, tomatoes are. Your assessment of this video is a testament to the quality of attention you've payed and has given us all insight into future reviews that will be given by the brain wanderer. I mean the gay wanderer. I mean the grey wanderer. You have managed to make everyone having watched this video and read these comments dumber. If you know nothing about a knife I guess you wouldn't understand why they got excited after he cut the paper. The reason they get excited is because he can actually slice that paper with one quick slice after beating the shit out of a 2 by 6 to cut it in half cutting rope and everything else which should dent and bend the edge of that blade but doesn't so it easily cuts through a thin slice of paper. Slicing paper is actually a true test of the razor sharpness of the blade.

    What you're not understanding is that it's easy to get a knife that sharp what's impressive here is the knife staying that sharp after smashing through wood and cutting various things most knives would lose their edge on the 1st stage of this test. And the reason the paper was so impressive is because it shows that his blade was maintained through all of that abuse.

  • @ghostedshadow9282

    Everyone loses their mind over the paper because of how much chopping and cutting he had already done normal knives. Will get Knicks and the edge will have microscopic roles in it and paper is one of the hardest things to cut straight through because one microscopic Knick in the blade it’ll tear and rip up instead of being a clean cut the paper at the end, shows how well, and how well the metal holds an edge

    It’s the fact that the razor edge is held and maintains itself to slice through that paper after all the abuse. Meaning he did an excellent job on making that steel and proper hardening of it. It’s damn impressive!

    It's sharp but what splits the wood is the chisel grind on the blade. It's geometry spreads as it cuts.

    The paper is impressive because this is a metal and edge test, they abuse the blade and then see how well it was made by how sharp it remains. To cut paper so effortlessly after chopping wood, etc, is extremely impressive.

    It's mostly about the blades' edge durability. He chopped huge ass wood in like 3 chops 2 different times and, in the end, was still able to cleanly cut that paper. Most knife edges would not be able to do all that cutting and still pull off such a clean cut on the paper.

    It’s a test to acquire Master Bladesmith certification. The knife is hand made by the bladesmith and this test certifies the quality of craftsmanship and his heat treatment. Average blades can’t cut and chop through all that without rolling, chipping or dulling the blade. At the end the knife is actually clamped in a vice and a pipe is used to bend it to a certain percentage. It must not break or stay bent but flex back to its original state. You can get very good heat treatment and not pass the test. This tests the blade to prove near perfection.

    Because cutting a loose piece of paper like that requires not only a very sharp but a very well made blade. As well as a knowledge of technique.
