It all about the blacksmith skill though, you have to creat a stronger steel to made your blade as light as possible but still don't break, and the thinner blade still had more advantage in the sharpness because it can develop a better profile while grinding.

@@Mr15905 exactly, so you can play it safe with a heavy blade or risk breaking your sword. Kinda like racing... who can push the limits the furthest

It's a one handed sword so it shouldn't be heavy.

@@Mr15905 I think he should put the sword in hot oil and let it cool in air after quench in oil. This will reduce some excess hardness and add some extra strength to his blade. Learn this in other KZread channel 😂

Sword was too long. These guys were knife makers and I personally think Damascus is overrated.

@@RevoltingRudi I would believe that if real damasuc swords were forged as it was before, but Damascus forgery is fake and only replica as genuine swords made from Damascus stell was way advanced for its time, its strong yet flexible
I don't think it was the heat treatment, but the quenching. I say that while drinking a Gatorade quenching my thirst from the comfort of my keyboard.

@@CrankyPants05 no, heat treating is when u quickly heat the metal up to temp, quenching is quickly bringing down the temp. Both are part of hardening. We also have tempering wc is a diff step

Because this show has respect for the audience, the competitors, and judges. Everything is earned and it's a one in a million show
Just once I wanna see an episode where they completely throw out the format for the last round. "Now, normally we'd be having you recreate a historic weapon, but today, you're going to have to make... *unnecessarily dramatic music* a life-size statue of Doug, cast entirely in bronze."

Metals have free electrons that tranfer heat all the way up quickly .
What I like about this, is that this judges are always HONEST. It's not surprising to see who wins, best judges

My son was playing with a toy T-Rex attacking figurines. After a few attacks I told him "Son, your T-Rex is very light and fast but not very well balanced with more weight towards the bottom. There are no laceration or cuts whatsoever. Your T-Rex would not kiyiill!!". Sucks to be a dad sometimes but you have to tell it like it is...

Yeah it confuses me when people get fireballs because that can only mean they pulled it out too soon which doesn’t make sense why they would. If you left it in the quench tank for a good 5 minutes then it would be good, maybe its the stress of the competition but rushing things confuses me because you can simply give it a good 5 minutes before pulling it out.

I watched this episode on TV and when the older gent has his blade in the vice, you could see a crack clear as day. I don't see how could miss it. Pretty significant crack.

I own one of these! It's a legitimate one from Morocco dated to be ~150 years old!
Knew something was going to happen when they show more of the forging days. Usually cut a big chunk of that if both weapons make it through all the testing. Still love these videos.

Even being beheaded isn't quite instant, and bleeding out from a wound can take anything from minutes to days, if you get an infection then it could be weeks before you go. Disembowelment is a particularly gruesome one, since the intestines aren't vital organs it can take hours to die all the while your digestive tract leaks into your blood. Probably the only instant death on the battlefield would be a dainax through the skull
This show is great.., the way they understand the importance of some good old, honorable, American handshaking at the end.. Very important for the unfortunate, yet still respectable, loser its a breath of fresh air..

As soon as I saw that fireball/early pull in his quench, I knew it was going to fail the strength test.
Why do I think quenching is so satisfying ?

But you can tell in the heat treat who was going to win. He didn't allow the blade to cool down in the heat treat. Your blade shouldn't be on fire after being in the oil.

That blade broke right where he was holding it with the second thongs. He also didn't agitate it in the oil,leading to a heat cover on the blade and an oil fire.

I once want to see someone defying the laws of physics and accidentally make a weapon so sharp it cuts through even the durability test making them unable to complete the durability test fully

I agree you have to know the likelihood of having to make a sword with at least a 2ft blade is going to be fairly good.
Steven heat-treated it like a minute, I knew it would break.
i expected the guy to cut his birthday cake with the sword he just made lol
"Heat treat when good." *There's laterally an oil fire in his shop.*
He should have put the sword back when it was still flaming. Rule is, when the blade is still on fire even when you pull it out, put it back in.

If you pull a flaming sword out of a flaming tank, now you have two fires to deal with.
