The Shadow - Carl Jung's Warning to The World

Carl Jung warns us against the dangers of the shadow (the unknown dark side of our personality). We must acknowledge our shadow and enter into long and difficult negotiations with it through shadow work. Only then can we become conscious of the collective shadow (the unknown dark side of mankind) and not fall prey to it.
Exploring our shadow allows us to rescue the good qualities that lie dormant within us, which improves our lives and the lives of those around us. We can then face the collective shadow and take responsibility to address the denial of important issues and a lack of individual and collective initiative.
Telling the truth is the most desirable way to deal with a difficult past, rather than dismissing the atrocities and having the shadow grow blacker until it can no grow no more, and thus history repeats itself.

I was born a Care Bear - all heart- no boundaries. Over time, I became an alcoholic, overwhelmed with the ugliness of the world, thinking at the time, that things kept happening to me. Now, after doing my own Shadow Work, I realize all of the illogical and irrational pain I endured / happened FOR me. I once read “No one is coming to save you from yourself”. It zapped me, hard. I decided, you know what, it’s time to roll up my sleeves and dive into my very own darkness. Was it easy? Hell to the nah. Was it worth it? 💯. Fully accepting my darkness while also acknowledging all of my light has forever changed my perspective and my peace for the better. I am going to be 2 years sober this august 8th. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere but HERE RIGHT NOW. if you’re reading this, I send love your way - an intense golden beam from my heart straight to yours. ✨

Wow, you sound like a mirror to my experience! I've been sober since 2008, and the process I went through to become sober is almost identical to what you described. YOU HAVE WON! Don't let the 12 steppers tell you that you're completely powerless over it. Because once you beat it, YOU have complete power over IT. Now it's almost 2023, still sober, and plan to be for life! Not being numb all the time allows you to experience the profoundness of life itself, which is far better than any buzz I've ever gotten off of booze! Thank you for the love, I return it in full measure! 💜🤗😊

Therefore, however they do manifest themselves, because we all do manifest something of the dark, you wouldn't be in control of it or even conscious of it, so its noticeable to all around you except you, and they suffer for it. I take the example to be like addict behavior, or compulsive lying......your friends and family know and have to avoid or confront and make that choice because you can't or won't.

People struggle to integrate their shadow side because of fear of judgement. They often get stuck into a role that they basically give themselves and have the feeling if they suddenly act differently it would contradict this role and others will dislike and not trust them. You need to lose all fear and hope in order to successfully integrate your shadow side into your personality. Let go of envy and accept that your ego is not really you. Don't seperate yourself from others by thinking you're special in any kind of way and accept the fact that we are all the same entity looking at ourselves from another window.

Given how poorly writers, artists, musicians and other creative people are treated by the culture at large, you could argue that a hell of a lot of creativity in the collective unconscious has been repressed into the collective shadow. Perhaps our civilisation needs to put creative people at the heart of our culture if we are ever to bring the collective darkness of humanity into the light. How we do that, of course, is anyone's guess. It also struck me that the fact that so many societies seem to just sweep things like drug use and broader mental health issues under the carpet, that perhaps the collective decision to do this speaks to an aspect of the collective shadow that wants to see individual humans suffer or feels powerless to really help individual humans in our species towards wholeness. It may even be that on an individual basis we love our friends and family but at a collective level we actually despise our own species. If we despise ourselves as a species then it could be that things like global warming are the collective equivalent of an individual engaging in self-harm behaviour and self-sabotage which means that just as an individual with suicidal ideation may cause their families a great deal of pain our collective suicidial ideation is going to be very dangerous to every living thing on this planet.

Kipling's preamble poem at the beginning of "The Jungle Book" addresses the heart of the story: "Tooth, talon, fang and claw..." Refers to the natural weapons of the animal kingdom. Ours is the mind. To enable another's mind is to arm that person with a human degree of autonomy. We will mend each other medically in any other way but that. To heal another's mind is to return them to equality with the rest of humankind. Such trust is the conceptual equivalent of giving a fugitive back a loaded pistol because it belongs to them, not knowing if they are perpetrator or victim, friend or foe.

In my experience this video says it all, the outside is a reflection of our inner being, the world's sufferings is the result of the masses of traumatised people's suppressed pain on the inside that has not been addressed. Most people are walking around on auto pilot and don't even know it, I did not know it, until that is I began to dig deep, and uncover my anher, fear and released my sadness which has become stagnant inner stormy seas. Once we express our sufferings and acknowledge our childhood experiences that were stored away in the memories of our waters, we can cleanse the body of those stuck emotions, energy not in motion, and cry them out, replacing them with clear crystal waters calm inner waters, that give us eyes to see. Dreams are a way of helping us understand our fears, and show.us where we are in our spiritual growth. Dreams have helped me.us inner-stand my self, and has brought up a lot of memories I had forgotten. Quote by an American Indian "There is no rainbow in the soul, when there are no tears"

The ego often tricks the unaware into a false sense of self. I was completely unaware of it, the only reason I became aware of it was because I experienced a dark night of the soul, an ego death, more of a reset really, because the ego is still within me, it is just that I became aware of it after the dark night of the soul and only now do I know to always keep it in check. I no longer let it control my thoughts or actions. I resist the ego and resist any and all darkness that lies within me. How people are expected to keep it in check while being constantly distracted is beyond me. It’s almost as if society is being steered towards making it an impossibility to keep it in check. I think there are those who see the ego as being something they wish to leave unchecked, meaning they don’t have to worry about self control, I think they long for freedom and the only way they can be truly free is without self control, without any limits placed upon the ego. To me being truly free means being strong in mind. To know unequivocally of who we truly are and the only way to do that is by resisting the darkness within us and letting the good within us flourish rather then allowing the ego to crush that goodness within. For that goodness within are our true selves, to truly be free we must control our own darkness, never to allow it to control or dictate any of our thoughts or actions any longer.

I have just shockingly discovered this about aspects of my self , I was horrified, mortified but came to the above conclusion with gentle self reflection and the compassion shown to me by dear friends when I confided in them in a time when I felt cold towards myself and had self disgust and repulsion . It presented a deeper understanding towards others acts of cruelty and the importance of none judgement and to remain in a state of meditative love . I realized it was a gift if I decided to learn from the experience, I am deeply grateful

Everyone is selfish. It’s a part of us to be selfish. Every decision and choice we make is selfish. Even the natural choices and processes we have no conscious control over are selfish. Like digesting our food, or the beating of our heart, it is selfish yet we have no control. The self improvement you desire is the reason you haven’t improved. It’s going to feel like pulling yourself into the air by your own boot laces, it’s impossible haha. I hear you (listening) ! It is indeed a challenging process, which draws on all our strength to achieve. But unless I misunderstood your words, Nobody should feel that they are obliged in any way to help others with their shadow work - (unless maybe, someone specifically asks for help from you). Unless you happen to be a very unique, advanced and enlightened soul, It’s not your job to save other people from themselves. The only way to help others, anyway, is to first help yourself. That way, you are raising the consciousness of all those around you. I think this concept has been studied and proven at various times. As far as labels go, what ppl label you as, or judge you as, is merely a reflection of their own state of mind, thought processes or level of consciousness. It has nothing at all to do with you and what kind of person you are, and therefore must be taken with a grain of salt. Needing to be left alone during periods of introspection, growth and and so forth, is completely normal and to be expected - certainly not selfish - merely a requirement or necessity. Anybody who judges another in that regard, is ignorant and not a friend. This kind of person may need to delve into their own psyches, and ask themselves why they have come to such a conclusion. It’s possible that they have not afforded themselves the right to be ‘selfish’ during times of growth, and therefore feel triggered when seeing others who are able to do so. Who knows. I’ve realised that most people have very little or no knowledge about the internal life of others, yet find it so easy to come to all manner of conclusions and judgements about their character, and the flaws they surely must have. Personally, I empathise with you in regards what you said about wanting to be left alone to your own devices, because it’s so hard for you to live a normal life. I can’t possibly know exactly what you mean, however I have this feeling that if people quit judging you, and were more accepting and compassionate of you and your circumstances, you may find it easier to live a normal life - whatever that is. I wonder to myself - who’s normal ? What’s a normal life anyway ? Maybe you’re normal, and the rest are abnormal 🙄 . Society doesn’t embrace the differences in people - the challenges some ppl have with their health, especially what’s termed as mental health - differences in neurology - differences in beliefs - personality - appearance - and more… I hope you find peace and acceptance in your life. ✌️🌈🙏

Being responsible for your actions and embracing this shadow side is something that has been lost in western society. Time has allowed Freud to overwhelm western tradition and lay waste to generations. There is something here that requires me to rethink a lot about this social experience. The artwork here is incredible, Goya is my starting point.

Then with the John Bradshaw series called "On the Family" on PBS television, Everything began to click. It took me 7 years of emotional release, hypnosis and psychoanalysis to become clearer minded and resolve the self hatred passed on to me by the culture and FOO. As Alice Miller wrote in "The Untouched Key". Jung is one of my favorites.

@@whitedragoness23 shadow work is when you work on the so called darker side of self. The world is based on polarity and people seem to block out the fact that we have anger and sadness, jealousy, greed, so on in all of us. With that said, that's not meaning we act on that in ways you'd think either. Every human on this planet has an opposite of who we think we are, and that's our shadow. But the shadow isn't bad at all, it helps us learn and grow. Like say u get jealous one day bc a partner gives attention or whatever to someone we may think may be better. That's the shadow showing u what lies within u too feel that way. When I first started learning about these things a few years back, id hear people say shadow work was scary or that we don't have that negativity when trying to be positive, but that's a perfect example of shadow coming out as well bc we ALL do, it follows everywhere we go and it's a very positive thing when worked with in an evolving type manner! There's also shadow cards you can buy, which are tarot cards , but they'll help u learn what part of you you're not quite getting then u learn how to work better with it versus bringing you down... I hope that helps friend ✌️

When training in a psychology-related field, we only touched on Jung in an abbreviated way, while other popular psychology was promoted. I took it on myself to study Jung as he resonated the most. I spent an entire decade in the 1990s, reading everything I could. The shadow and the shadow collective are some of the most important aspects. A lesson to not go along with it right now is important. Social media and propaganda sway people in an instant it becomes a fever. Alongside the covid pandemic is a psychotic pandemic. It's actually hard to meet people who are not in the grip of it from the uneducated to the professional. Narcissism is on the rise too. The other important aspect of Jung is self-awareness. Examining your own human aspects that are not perfect but being aware of it and being able to stand back and reflect on how it is affecting you in the present moment, can actually make you stronger to-not go along with it

In spiritual alchemy the first thing we are taught is to make friends with our shadows. As Jung says there's no light with out shadow. The best inner work I've ever done. Much love and gratitude for this profound information. ✨

@@whitedragoness23 I believe he's referring to Neigong as it's called in China. It's the actual alchemy that all of the sages were speaking about in allegorical terns and metaphors when speaking about "turning lead to gold" and all that. It's the methods by which The philosphers stone is acquired

@Dustin Ashley It is called Neidan or Jindan. "Internal Alchemy" It is a big part of Taoism. ☯️ The teachings of the Dao incorporate various elements of self cultivation through meditation, philosophy and other techniques. I would recommend "The Secret of the Golden Flower".. Carl Jung did commentary for the book.

@@whitedragoness23 Spiritual alchemy is called "spiritual alchemy" to separate it from its practical form of chemistry or laboratory alchemy. It has nothing to do with one specific culture, because all cultures have it. Don't listen to these people here. In spiritual alchemy, we take our flaws and our vices and we transform them into virtues, just as baser metals are transformed into precious metals in chemistry. It's also called sublimation. Hope that helps.

@@marzipug5439 it’s more about taking responsibility for your actions and being honest with yourself. Good people do bad things sometimes. That’s okay but you can’t say you weren’t bad when you did it. It only “strengthens the shadow” or simply put, makes you feel justified and able to disregard the bad thing that was done. The idea is the more you justify the bad shit you do, the worse it can get.

I started meditating a bit over a year ago. One of the very first things I see when I go deeper is this black figure akin to a male come into view. It has no features; but I have seen my shadow-dark side manifest into the real world. I've done things I never thought I would. I was abusing certain compounds lets say. I've gone through a lot of the scenarios that happened during that time, and it feels like I was a totally different person. I've known of my demons for a long time. I even had a good friend of mine tell me how he saw that I recognized my demons, but it wasn't until I started to mentally decline and go into deep depression due to the abuse of compounds that it fully manifested. Plenty of work to be done, and there's always work to be continued. Thank you for your video. I appreciate it as I'm sure many other do. All the best

I myself had issues with certain compounds.I know think I died when I hit my head and wound up in a different dimension.I woke up after I had fallen on ice and hit my head hard.I had a concussion.Nothing was the same like the person who used those substances wasn't me and I had no desire for it anymore.I hardly recognized my daughter and father it took me a bit to get use to them. That was years ago and I haven't been the same since. When I heard the theory of if you die suddenly you could wind up in a different dimension where things are slightly off.

One must not change to order of the shadow till they have fully explored it. Doing so can lead to dire consequences. Possibly symptoms simular to bi-polar disorder or even schizophrenia. Remember you aren't on the outside looking. Through glass stone sour explains it very well metaphorically. The best thing you can do is find someone that trains "empty mind" in Tai Kwon do. It is very relevant to separation of the mind and the soul. It allows you to hear the whispers more clearly so you can learn how to cut through the noise. ( "null and void instead of voices" ). It is hidden in music. Once we get it used to be exposed we will start the darker examinations and introduce the true meaning behind a lot of RHCP songs.

Remember all you have to say is Flee in the name of Jesus everyone it's important. the devil always has to reveal himself don't accept. I didn't no either but I found out hard way. I still got demons in my bed. I need get exorcist. Take it how you want I am not scared I am covered in the blood of Jesus who wants the world if your a slave forever and eternally live in hell. I don't care if I am homeless I don't care if I die I care about people and these is a hell of a warning for you do it and find out but remember. Sighs and Wonders is nothing I seen it all. It trip me out to but when it's crunch time that's when you will know there from the underground all the light workers gurus everything except the Bible leads all to the Same place there is many different variations. Books like archangel metatron are budda guru type. The list goes on don't you understand we're in a war in a spiritual battle get your ass out of here fast. Satan is the master of tricks what you don't understand is how physics become physics they let someone in and share a body. It's not hard to find the door in your third eye that should scare you enough.

Embrace your shadow, understand it, mitigate it. Know thyself. But more importantly, understand that we all have a dark side, there is NO shame in that. In much the same way as there is no shame in not knowing, but there is shame in not WANTING to know.
