For a 13 year old girl who'd been so chaperoned and sheltered, I think she proved her point very well. Getting to Boston and acquiring both room and job was a big deal for such a girl. I hope her parents were able to look at each other, smile, and admit a grudging admiration of her gumption! I can imagine the frustration and desire for freedom that turned her towards the station instead of home. Since a Suitable Marriage would have been her parent's ultimate aim, I do hope she was married to a man with a more adventurous spirit - and they had lots of happy small-life adventures together.
Much like my childhood. I wasn't allowed to cut my own meat at the table until I left home at the age of 14! Growing up with everyone in the family claiming that I lack the competency to choose my clothes, walk two blocks to school in a town of 900 and so micromanaged was almost the death of me. In the 70s and 80s kids had a lo of freedom and I had none. Despite being told I was too low IQ to do anything, I managed my life just fine. I have mild autism which didn't exist back then and my IQ is 162.

Good for you for proving them wrong!

@@l.l.2463 I just understand why she did it. My siblings were all allowed to do as they pleased. I'm in my late 50s now. What I did was extreme.

That must have been so hard, you feel trapped, but it's family, you certainly don't come across like someone with a low iQ I truly wish so much joy for you ❤ Tasmania Australia, you are brave 😊.

Wow 162, I didn't see that bit, you bordering on genius actually that would be classified as genius, I've never looked into IQ tests and what scores are what, but well done you ✨️🏆✨️🥳🌺🌻.

Did you have somewhere to go when you left home at 14?
While it sucks that Adele worried everyone and wasted police's time, she must have been quite a headstrong character. I wonder what other (though obviously non-newsworthy) trouble she got up to the rest of her life. Btw, nice touch adding in old pictures and footage from the time period. It really adds to the story.

Came from a privilege family and probably wasn't taught to think about others.

Glad you think so!
I think a lot of young people would have claimed to be a victim of a kidnapping or something. I love that she told her story so honestly.
My grandfather came from a privileged family in Denmark. He was chauffeured to & from school by horse & buggy & not allowed to associate with anyone beneath his social status. When he was 18 he stowed away on a ship to America & is listed at Ellis Island upon arrival. He never looked back or went back. Learned English, became a citizen & was a Jack of all trades. A very humble man. He landed at America in early 1900s I believe. Proud of those that can strike out on their own & not be held to privileged standards.
This wouldn't even have been a story if she wasn't rich and her parents put up that reward. Also, it sold newspapers! Funny story, though . At least it had a happy ending.

Totally agree !!
A Google search suggests that Adele married Martin Bernet in 1927, and died in 1973, in Florida.

Google isn’t always reliable the parents don’t match as well as siblings and no connection to Martin Bernet

@@fluffmcnugget2428 geez, I thought the names of parent and siblings matched.
This was a great little story and an interesting look at a high society girl who while clearly self-sufficient was also very sheltered. I liked how you linked her case to Dorothy's after, because there's a more typical example of where these cases end up. Thank you for uploading, I loved the animations and enhanced images you're using in the video.

It's a funny story, but her parents must have been losing their minds. They must have assumed she had been kidnapped for ransom.

Welcome 😊
I'm glad she made it home safe and will freely admit this plan took guts and brains for a sheltered kid to pull off, but I honestly hope she got a good spanking for all the stress and worry she caused. This plan could have gotten her harmed in so many ways for what in the end is a somewhat childish and rather petty jab at proving her parents wrong.

Hello there!
ANOTHER SAD LIFE LOSS
Those lips, be still my heart!
She was shaperoned to and from school, but was left alone in a busy commercial area , to walk few streets home?ALONE?

Correct, she was chaperoned beacuase she had a little sister, so both went with a maid, i think it was a little further too!
Being good-looking makes life just as hard, as not having classic looks...Many people are very jealous and hateful in our society. I've come to the realization , that a person must find their 'tribe' to have a sense of belonging. For me, that means leaving North America, to live in a foreign country.
Excellent, i love these videos, i love history about people know one would even know about unless they already had an interest, without channels like yours. Thank you for working at this, and being able to watch you grow year by year, 🤔 not that you ever...seem to age 😃👍 well done lad 🦘🇦🇺🐨💞.
