My front garden is covered in moss, so much so that I didn't realise the other day and my mower cut out because it was so thick, after a few days of research I came across this product. I have literally whilst typing this comment finished my first coat of it on my grass. Thanks so much for your video because the instructions aren't very clear, as you described I went with 5L of water to 10g of the product as my lawn isn't very big. Here's to hoping it kills the moss and not my lawn like I've seen in some other comments. Next on the agenda is to follow one of your other videos about scarifying and then seeding. Wish me luck 😂

Great Vid Jay. Got on to your channel from Robbie at Premier Lawns. If you put this on at least once a month during the “growing season” when would be best time to add fertiliser? Also, what are your thoughts on mixing the iron with seaweed? Have a seen a few others do this

Hi there ! That’s brilliant, I’m really grateful for him making my content visible to others 😄. I absolutely mix iron with seaweed on every occasion 🙂🌱 So I tend to do it intermittently to fertiliser, so I would apply fertiliser on day zero then 2-3 weeks after applying the fert I apply the iron mix, 2-3 weeks after that I would apply the fertiliser again and so on. Bare in mind don’t go solely off of time, look at your lawn, if it looks like it doesn’t need the help then hold off, if it looks very hungry then apply slightly earlier 🙂🌱

I don't water my lawn in the evenings anymore, especially if its been a hot sunny day. I found if I water it after its been in the hot sun all day it kind of puts the lawn in shock and the growth slows down. If I water my lawn in the morning before I go work I've found the lawn responds a lot more and growth is much much stronger.

For clarification, you use 140 gms in 10 litres of water for 70 sq m of lawn? 2. Do you use this routine throughout the year, including Winter? 3. Does Pro-Kleen feed the lawn or do you still need separate lawn feed to feed the lawn as an additional task? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Russ! Thanks for commenting, 1) yes that is the mix I have found to work, I have also treated larger lawns up to 100m/2 with the the same 10 litres but with a higher dosage and had no dramas what so ever 😄. 2) yes I use it more or less monthly/ 6 weekly, from march till October. 3) although it has its benefits it does not have any NPK properties so you would still Need to feed additionally, personally I apply some form of feed every 6-8 weeks staggered to the iron treatments, I always mix my iron with seaweed (there’s another video I released this year, how to add colour to your lawn after winter) this may help. I wish you all the best! As long as you get a feed and weed down yearly and apply at least several iron treatments alongside balanced fertilisation you will see great results 😄🌱

Great video! I have the same stuff but unfortunately I done it the other night and my grass has turned black. My garden is around 110 Square metres. I decided not to do 2g per square metre. I went for 150g for the whole lot. My knapsack is 12 litres and I only used around 10or 11 litres of the mixture. I did mess up when looking back now as I have not done well with my coverage. It almost looks like tartan. I think I could benifit from a wider nozzle or maybe I had it too close to the grass. Even if I had covered the grass properly, it would still have turned it black so I'm a bit lost at why this has happened. Wonder if maybe the soil was too dry when I sprayed it? There has been plenty of rainfall now but the black hasn't gone away . There is very little moss and a few weeds on my lawn. They have turned black to but so has. The grass blddes. Just wondering if you have any ideas about what I've done wrong? Thanks David

@@JayRockGroundsMaintenance thanks for your reply. The sprayer is brand new so never had anything else in it. I had treated the lawn with moss killer and feed weeks ago and I have since scarified it. I don't imaging there was any left on the grass from so long ago. I used a watering can for that. I have double checked my scales to make sure I read them right to. I used around a full disposable small plastic cup. Not even the size of a coffee cup so don't think I used too much. I'm just puzzled to be honest. I did try aeration with a fork just before spraying it. I thought it would help the nutrients get down onto the roots. Not sure if that would do anything. I'm still very much learning but enjoying it. Maybe it will turn dark grewn in a few days. I'm not sure when to do it again and if I should use less. I will be sure to let you know. I really want a dark green lawn and to be proud of it. I've worked so hard in my garden recently and have been the talk of a few gossiping neighbours. They commented on how awful my garden is looking due to the unfinished garage I am building and also some general landscaping I'm still working hard at. I have done some really nice things with flowers and small areas around the side of the house so I feel that with a nice lawn it'll really annoy them and they will see all. My hard work is paying off.

Well it sounds like you are taking all the necessary steps ! So a massive well done, just remember this takes time to get the lawn to a good base level, once there it is a lot more forgiving 🙌🏽🌱. Only thing I can think of is that you have gotten rid of the surface moss, on aerating you May have opened up some moss at the surface level and therefore still turned it black🌱 you’ll see in the next week if it doesn’t go it may need raked out 👍🏼🌱

As I understand it, worms don't really like iron. This can be a negative and a positive. If you get a lot of worm cast, using iron could help. Obviously, having a healthy worm population in your soil is beneficial. I've used iron sulphate mainly from Sept and through winter and other lawn feeds during summer. Hi David ! So last thing you want to do is put it down too strong and really dry out the lawn, I think if you use 12 litres then just use 1g per M2, but personally I like to be able to do 2 passes, I don’t think you’ll manage that with just 12 litres. I would be tempted to do 10 litres of water with 150g of IS which should get you around 1 pass - re fill - re mix and go in opposite direction. It’s all trial and error at this stage and what works for you 😄

Can I just check... my IS says 1 to 3 grams per litre per square meter of lawn. Therefore for every litre you need up to 3g. If you have a 10 litre bucket (or in my case a 10 litre watering can) then the maximum you need is 10 litres x 3g = 30 grammes. Where did you get 140g from?

  • @johncanter9575

    @johncanter9575

    3 ай бұрын

It is 1 to 3g of IS per sq.m of lawn. 2g is normally enough for greening. Water is just a carrier so you need enough water to cover your entire area. Eg if you have a 100sq.m lawn and your watering can cover 10sq.m then put 20g of IS in the can and water. Then repeat. IS should stay on the leaf for a few hours ideally so check there is no rain due.

Hi Robby, personally I have never applied it over a scorch patch although I’m pretty sure it won’t help, although the area should start to repair although it’s a hard time of year with it getting colder. If in doubt mix some soil and seed come spring and conduct a small patch repair 👍🏼🌱

    3 жыл бұрын

Hello there, thank you for commenting ! As per the tub it’s a stupid ratio, which is unpractical, personally I use 10L for nearly 70 metres squared. Which is 10L of water for 140 grams of IS. I would suggest - practically, go 2g per metre squared of your area. And use enough water to be able to do at least 1, even better 2 passes of said area. That may take some trial and error👍🏼

According to these instructions, for a 100m² lawn, I would need 100litres of water. No way could I apply this. Consulted three independent lawn experts who assured me that it must be a misprint. I was advised that I only need about 10litres using a backpack sprayer.

Hi, by my calculation my lawn size is 120sqm. So from watching your video i would require 240g of Iron Sulfate(at 2g dosage), but to how much water? I dont have a pressure sprayer, but thinkng of buying a 7/8 litre one or larger. The container I have says to mix 1-2g or sulfate per litre of water.

For moss removal, water the turf very well then right after apply your iron. Plan to have two dry days after, above 10°c if possible. You can add some soluble fertilizer during the growing season, also kelp.

  • @wayneessar7489

Also if your water is alkaline and you can access a ph meter, adjust the application water to 5.5 or less. This will allow your iron to remain in solution and not oxidized in the tank, that will mean no clogs. Use pickling vinegar or I like citric acid.
