The Second Most Emotional Reaction to a Sabaton video | Sabaton "1916" (Motorhead) | Just Jen Reacts

Музыка

Todays reaction ‪@Sabaton‬ with their version of "1916" originally written by the legend himself, Lemmy Kilmister in 1991 after watching a UK television program about the 1916 Battle of the Somme on which a veteran reminisced about his friend dying in his arma with half his face blown off.
Sabaton infamously got me this good with one other reaction to their song "Christmas Truce" I still can't watch that video without bawling my eyes out!!! And here they get me AGAIN!!! That right there says they sure as hell know just how to provoke our emotions with their music videos!!! Great job, Sabaton! Great job!

I've played this for my grandfather, he is 99 and a veteran of world war 2, he was 16 when the Netherlands was invaded, he told the army he was 18 and started fighting. Few days later the Germans bombed his and mine hometown of Rotterdam. He lost 12 family members that day. When he heard this song he cried like a baby, we've listened to Sabaton for hours after that. He is now A very big fan!

The somme was a battle my great grandfather was in. I never knew him but I can't forget him and the men he fought along side of. Remember the fallen " lest we forget " wear your poppy with pride.

I think you may have missed something here, and unfortunately it's something that just makes this song even sadder. You mention, imagine being a kid and being forced to go to war, referring to conscription, but conscription was for young men aged 18 to 40. This song is about a child aged 16, and so he was too young to fight. Children grew up learning of the glory of battle. Soldiers who sail across the world, take part in easily won battles in wars which lasted only a few months, and who came back with medals and honor. Children under 18 therefore wanted to join the army, to travel across the world, to fight for glory, honor and medals. They lied about their age and were shipped off by generals who didn't know they were not old enough to fight. They say as much in the lyrics. "We all volunteered and we wrote down our names. And we added two years to our ages." And for many of these 16 year olds in 1916, little did they know that, had they waited their turn, waited until they were 18, some of them may have never been old enough to fight as the war ended in 1918.

Yes. There was this kind of mindset that boys had to go to a war to become men, like previous generations had. But since the last war British were in machine guns and modern artillery had been invented. The machine gunners were total wrecks afterwards even if they survived, when thousands of boys marched side by side to the no man's land like they did in 19th century and they had to mow them down watching young men turn into clouds of pink mist.

I'm a Lancashire Lad and this song hits home the hardest for me, many towns in the North of England lost a whole generation of men to WW1. The Pals Battalions are the most tragic, a town near me was home to the Accrington Pals and their story has never been forgotten.

I think the best thing that Sabaton does is put faces in the soldiers' faces. During history, we learn about the millions of casualties during wars but then move on. We don't really take the time to process this. Sabaton makes you realize that these soldiers were just like any other regular person. They had a job, relatives. They had dreams, hopes. They were a neighbor, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, or a nephew. They had things they liked and disliked. Also, it puts you in their place. What would you think or how would you react if you had to be at the Somme or Passchendale?

This is so true so many from 16 to 21 sent to fight for no real reason while the leaders are about 100 miles from the fighting pretending they were in the fight while sitting at a desk drinking champagne eating good hot meals. I am British so glad Sabaton did this song their way.

I get your point, but the narrator of the song wasn't drafted, he volunteered and lied about his age. It was in the song. The members of Sabaton were dressed as Caroleans Swedish soldiers of the Swedish Empire era.

My great-grandfather lied about his age and joined the Army in 1917. He fought in WWI. My great-uncle enlisted in the Marine Corps 2 days after Pearl Harbor. My grandfather joined later. Both volunteered. My dad and uncle volunteered. Uncle fought in Korea. Dad in Vietnam. My brother served in the Army. I joined the Marine Corps fought in Desert Storm and later in Iraq and Afghanistan. War sucks but I'm proud of my family's service. Sabaton hits me hard. I love their music. Music has gotten me through some really bad stuff.

I am very glad you're a lover of great music! I love you're channel and I love modern rock. Surprising being my age but I gotta admit new bands like Sabaton, Power Wolf, Amaranthe etc are so much better than the stuff I had in the 80's. They comprise my gym playlist.

Great reaction!🤘 You need to know the history, to understand a the future. Yes, Lemmy really could write songs. This one hits hard and Sabaton did an awesome job with it. My oldest daughter is 15... A year from now, she's still a kid! Can't imagine her in the frontline of a battle!😳 Those survivors from WW1 came out on the other side as messed up wreckes... Take care, Jen! 🌞

Not to mention that most people who did manage to return physically sound from armed conflicts don't get to remain mentally sound. Stepping on puddles of blood and human body fragments and witnessing friends being blown to shreds by grenades and bullet storms has a way to erode one's sanity.
