Yes yes yes. I agree. I played it before I turned on Christmas music which is playing on radio here in lovely Michigan. And I ordered tickets to the Ohio concert but never recieved them. So I was bummed out and they were row 101 center stage so I was pissed. Lol. But and they brought the tank I heard. Dang it. Oh well but this song is by far my favorite.

As a combat vet. One thing I learned. The hardest thing to keep alive in combat. Your humanity. My great grandfather was a major in the German Army in WWI. He said "I ordered my soldiers to never fire on Christmas Day." The only orders he said he never regretted.

For me to see him back on keyboard / piano brings back good memories, since it's kind of a 'back to the roots' vibe

When Sabaton was formed in 1999, he started by writing songs and playing the keyboard. But the band needed a singer, so they asked him to sing until they find a singer. He's still the lead singer and is the main songwriter for the band.

The cross in the end actually exists. It's located somewhere near Ypres in Belgium. It's a memorial for the Christmas truce and was put there in 1999. the actual cross reads: 1914 The Khaki Chums Christmas Truce 1999 85 Years Lest We Forget

It is, in Ploegsteert, known for its war monuments like the international cemeteries (about a dozen, maybe some more) and a war museum. It is located about a mile of the French border and was the location where the most heavy fighting took place. When I was in school as a kid of 11 or 12 (that was 50 years ago), Ploegsteert was a mandatory place to visit among others, I never saw the cross it self it wasn't there at that time, it was placed years later. Other places to visit were the trenches, the Ijzertoren in Diksmuide, the Menenpoort where the names of more than 50,000 British and Commonwealth soldiers missing in action are listed. Every night at 8.00 pm bugles sound the 'Last Post' to commemorate the lost lives.

1. The Christmas Truce in WW1 2. "Charlie" Brown and The Old Pub in WW2. Those are the two in my mind. And in that order.

"At six o'clock everything became quiet, and it was completely quiet," wrote an anonymous English soldier in The Times on January 1, 1915. He was at the front in France during the First World War and described how the fighting against the Germans on his front section spontaneously ceased just over one week before Christmas Eve. "We sat around the fire all evening, and around 11 pm an infantry officer told us that all fighting had been called off, and that soldiers were meeting between the trenches," the story reads. There was no agreement in advance, when the soldiers stopped the firing just before the first Christmas of the war. It would in history be called the "Christmas Armistice". The soldier says that the enemies met in no man's land the following morning. The German soldiers constantly clasped their heels and were extremely polite, but not much was said, as they did not master each other's languages. Finally, a German, who had lived in the United States for a few years, stepped forward and acted as an interpreter. Cigars and small gifts were exchanged, and a German soldier asked an Englishman to send his picture to his aunt in Liverpool. "Most Germans are cheerful and happy people, and it seems so stupid to fight them," wrote another British soldier in the same issue of the newspaper. When Christmas Day ended at midnight, the fighting resumed, and the front was again marked by violence. When the British General Staff heard about the many spontaneous ceasefires, they issued a furious order that fraternization with the enemy was strictly forbidden. When the front soldiers tried something similar at Christmas 1915, they only in very few cases managed to get Christmas peace. Makes you think... who are the real enemy?

Hi Sagan Jum Jum, I am afraid we regular people are: Every time a politician, a president, a newspaper, a neighbour a colleague etc. vents a simplified view on things and we do not ask: "oh why do you think so?" we are our enemy. Because the next day it is a truth and we have to defend it for them.War is black or white, whilst reality is all colour shades.

This song got me teared up many times by now. It just shows, that even in something as horrible as a world war, there can still be a glimmer of humanity. And humanity is the one thing the world needs the most right now. I'm so happy, that i get to see Sabaton Live on their Tour in Cologne (Germany) on the 1st of April 2022

I remember my grandpa told me that many soldiers created gifts for their children's for Christmas out of the things they had in the trenches, patrons, wood and other simple materials. My grandfather had to fight as a 18 year old and turned 19 at the end of this war. He hated the war but had to fight, for his life. That what the masters do, let us hate and turn on eachother. My grandfather died at 98, born in 1898 in Germany.

Yeah, same here. Especially the final lyrics "When we celebrated Christmas we thought about our friends, those who never made it home when the battle had commenced". That line hit me hard for some reason, plus the final bit with Floor's hauntingly beautiful bit.

When I first heard this song last week in my local coffee shop, I wept unashamedly; as many have said, jokingly or not, this is the ONLY Christmas song that I would ever permit to play before Thanksgiving. Can you imagine the COURAGE it would have taken to step out over the walls of your trench, holding your hat by way of parley, to try to establish peace, if only for a moment?

Jen, there is another song about the cease-fire order on Christmas, called "Belleau Wood," by I believe Garth Brooks. He also sings about how, during World War I, both the Allied troops and German troops sang Christmas songs and Carol's across No-Man's-Land. In some places, the Germans and Allies even got together and had Christmas dinner, despite the fact that the day before and the day after, they were slogging it out in the trenches. It just goes to show that even in the darkest pits of Hell on Earth, there can always be found a glimmer of hope. And Jen? I'm not sure if you or anyone else caught it, but throughout this song, you can hear Sabaton's version of Carol of the Bells, one of the most powerful Christmas songs ever made.

A folkrock band from Denmark did a tune about this back in the early nineties, but not in the same rockstyle. It is the Lars Lilholt band, but I can't recall the name of the song, but yet as waking up feelings, as Sabaton's here! Might just be a plus if you understand danish 😄😄🇩🇰🥰

I can"t wait to sing this arm in arm with thousands of my brothers and sisters at a Sabaton concert in 2022

I don't think Sabaton would even consider others than Floor. They goes way back, touring together ReVamp and Sabaton - Floor pranking Joacim on stage - and Hannes and Floor of course. Hannes and Floor have often guys from Sabaton on visit - and Floor uses the Sabaton guys on her covers.. They would never ask others than the Valkyrie Queen - and she would never refuse. It's not her first appearance on a Sabaton song..

Proof that even in war you can still find your humanity if you try very hard. As a Nam combat vet this one really got me much as En Livstid I Krig LIVE had me chopping onions. Hard watching this and thinking of those buddies who never got to make it home for the Christmas holidays ever again. Sabaton's great secret is that they bring the ordinary experience of history to life so you experience it like those who were caught up in it, some gallant heroes but mostly those ordinary people long forgotten to history but not by Sabaton. Here you experience the insanity of war, singing, playing football, and exchanging gifts only to return to the brutality the next day. This is the experience of any war no matter the time or the parties involved the same insanity reins from one age to the other, sadly as Sabaton points out in all there many hits we never seem to learn from our humanity and return to the insanity so quickly!!! Well done Jen and if you didn't reaction emotionally to this then you are either dead or a soulless excuse for a human being!!!!

Actually, I have heard that the soldiers had to be transferred to another part of the Front, as they refused to resume shooting at each other. I guess when you exchange photos of your family and call each other by name it's kind of hard to tear each other apart again. The Imagio Dei shines through.

Sabaton has a great way of praising heroism while bashing those responsible at the same time.

Can you just imagine the anxiety and fear that the first ones to come up out of the trenches must have been feeling during that. I just cannot imagine how that must have felt not knowing what the other side was going to do at first as they came out. One thing that happened after the truce as it happened on multiple areas on the battlefield is all the units involved on both sides had to be relocated to other parts of the battlefield as the commanders feared they would not actually fight each other again after they now saw the other side as people with names and faces and now friends they just got to know. As for Floor doing the singing at the credits, that was an icing on the cake of an already amazing song. Anyone who is a die hard Floor Jansen/Nightwish fan is going to recognize that voice instantly.

Well they didn’t just fear that the soldiers wouldn’t fight, because they didn’t. Actions ranged from shooting over their heads or purposely missing, to straight up refusing to fire

The christmas truce of 1914 is one of my favorite events in history ... i had family fighting for the germans during ww1 beforw they migrated to the united states and the stories ive heard from their kids about this night is truly heartwarming and heartbreaking my family members who fought in the war said that it was more of a somber night towards the end because the soldiers truly did not want to fight any longer but pawns do not have say in the queens movements ... truly sad for thoes who lost their lives during this terrible war and thoes who had to witness the atrocities of mankind

every history teacher should show a Sabaton video in their class.not only is it great music, it always tells a story that can open up a discussion on a battle most people have never heard of. I’m 51 and I learn something about history that I did not know with every song and every video they do. the videography is impeccable

They are immensely talented and they are such an important band for today’s era. They are the modern day bards masterfully telling the epic stories of history and heroes through their incredible gift of music and artistic interpretation. Myself and my entire family are big fans and because of them, my kids know and honor the memories and incredible legacies of Audie Murphy, Bull Allen, Alvin York and the 82nd Airborne, Marina Raskova and the Night Witches, the bravery and heroics of the Polish Resistance Fighters in 40:1 and Uprising, the story of the brave 189 Swiss Guards who gave their lives to protect the Holy Line in 1527 in “The Last Stand”… the list goes on and on. And now we have “The Christmas Truce” and a new album in March. We can’t wait. 🙂🤘🏻❤️

My first song that I heard from Sabaton was 40:1 live at Wacken! Seeing them live is a MUST! If you can go see them play live, please do! Trust me when I say Sabaton (playing live) does not disappoint one bit!!! I was so sad that I couldn’t afford to go to their show, and like this song, a miracle happened! Needless to say, I was given the gift of some REALLY good seats, along with my first born! It was the very first concert I got to take him to! He instantly became a Sabaton fan! And we did not use those seats 💺 at all! We danced alongside Chris (Vlogging Through History) and his wife Tara! So it really was a special night! One I shall never forget! So if you ever get that chance, please make sure you go see them live!!! The whole way home, our faces hurt so much from smiling! I’m forever grateful for that chance!!! ❤️

@@JustJenReacts Count me in as another insta-fan. I've been a fan of European power metal for over 20 years, but for some reason I never bothered to check out Sabaton. Over the last month or so I finally took the time to listen to some of their songs and I was completely blown away! And when I finally got to Christmas Truce, I never felt that kind of emotion for any music ever before. I now have all of their albums and love every single one of them! I just wish I didn't wait so long to get into them.

A stunning video...even setting the mood by evoking (although not the actual song) Carol of the Bells at the beginning. (It is a soundalike, something often done when you want to evoke the mood of a particular song without actually using it. Carol of the Bells starts G-F#-G-E, G-F#-G-E. On this he`s playing E-B-C-A, E-B-C-A.) And WHAT a touch to have Floor singing at the end!

So one thing to keep in mind is that the western front in WWI was hundreds of miles long, so there were several different sections. These truces were sponatiously held in different sections and lasted from christmas night up to about 2 weeks. For the most part these took place between Germans and the British, since the French were actually fighting on their native soil, as France was invaded by Germany. Naturally they weren't so keen to fraternize with the very enemy that was invading their country. There were short truces between French and German troops on Christmas night and day though they were simply not shooting at each other. On other parts of the front the war kept on going throughout christmas. What mostly happened in the German-British sectors was this: This war was super surreal. Just months prior to this people in Europe were custom to travel and work or study abroad. Many Germans were working in Britains pubs as waitors for instance. When the war broke out they got enrolled in the Army and sooner than later they were fightng. The months prior to Christmas the war developed into the well known stalemate we know today. What made it worse was that conditions were terrible, as there was way more rain than usualy in these months. Eintire battlefields and trenches turned into muddy hellholes in which the burried dead were constantly washed into the open again and trenches were filled with water. Soldiers were not able to sleep properly in the trenches, as they were in danger of drowning. When Christmas came around it got cold and to the soldiers this was like a miracle. Finally the water froze and they were walking on solid ground after months of mud. They were tired and exhausted and wanted to rest. Now here in Germany we celebrate Christmas with our families on Christmas Eve. We fesat and give each other presents on the evening of 24th, so the Soliders started to open presents they recieved from their loved ones at home. Slowly and steadily this developed into an atmosphere of Christmas and the Germans started so sing Christmas carols like silent night (the original song is the German "Stille Nacht" which got adapted into english). When the British and Scotts in the other trenched started to hear it, they started to feel a similar desire for peace and to be with their loved ones. So they started to sing silent night as well. This turned into a "singing contest" to outsing the other side. Then the british started to joke around and shouted marry christmas across no-mans land, not expecting an answer. But as mentoned above, German troops were well educated and verse in English, as many of them had lived in Britain before, so they shouted back. Then some brave souls indeed ventured into the open with white flags or their arms in the air and the whole thing started. What is important to keep in mind is that this wasn't one big event, but a series of variing truces that happened spontaniously between the enlisted men.

I was a hardcore metalfan as a teenager and has always been interested in modern histhory. Now at 50+ i came across Sabaton, and the way they tell about different evennts in history (often WWI--WWII) is staggering. History that mustn't be forgotten.

I keep playing this song in my car. Especially when I’m all alone. I just think hearing about truce in general eases my mind of what’s happening in the world today.

BEST REACTION TO THIS SONG EVER! Jen you had me all welling up watching you well up! Plus you guessed Floor in like 2 seconds of hearing her!

The saddest part about this is that after this happened High Command on both sides moved soldiers around and ordered that soldiers cannot interact with the enemy. They did everything in their power to prevent another truce. Had they not done that the war would have been over so much quicker.

First time here. Third time watching the Christmas Truce video. And you're reaction just blew me away, as do the video! Eyes started tearing up immensely, just from nowhere. A unique MASTERPEICE. I am so proud to be Swedish when I think of those men in Sabaton and what they stand for and all their talents. And at the same time, they are all good, nice and beautiful people.

Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. It should come as no surprise that Hannes, their drummer is husband to Floor Jansen whose angelic and operatic voice you hear at the end. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot allow that to happen.

Okay the how could you leave us reaction is how I found you and I’m so proud of how far you’ve come and I’ve watched your story unfold. Love the reactions Jen 🧡🧡

Truly enjoyed the emotion you showed and as a fellow vet myself, thanks to your father for his service in Vietnam. I also appreciate the fact that you are a Floor Jansen (Nightwish) fan. I envy you getting to see Sabaton in concert. From what I've seen, they truly know how to entertain a crowd while educating them on history too.

Huge props not only for letting the credits roll, but even moreso for recognizing Floor's singing in the credits. Too many other reactors skip the credits entirely - or fail to recognize just who they are hearing there. That said, a little above Floor in the credits there is another name you may want to check out. Antti Martikainen. He also has a youtube channel where he posts some pretty darn amazing music of his own.

Easily the best reaction video I've seen.. You've definitely grasped the video in all its essence and meaning.. Excellent!! And yes, that is unmistakably Floor at the end!!

Dear gods, this song is absolutely killing me. First time listening to it and I was in tears, doesn't happen often, even less often to music, but they made it. As for the English, yes, there were plenty of Germans even back then who spoke English, even having family ties to the UK. Soccer games also happened, and they even redid it, with army teams. Bundeswehr won at least once, so at least one "fight" Germany won. xD Joakim started actually as Piano player for Sabaton, so he can do it.

Thank you for this reaction. This song made me cry too and I get goosebumps every time I hear it. Its an amazing video, song and story. Two of my grandads were in the trenches when these events happened, sadly both were killed in WW1 One of them wrote home about the events saying it was very surreal and heartwarming. There were French, Russian, Serbian (prob more) groups on the western front at that time also. The event was an impromptu series of truces right along the western front some lasting one, two or even 7 days. As you can imagine the generals on all sides weren’t happy about this and gave orders for it to stop. Soldiers were threatened with court martial or even death if they defied orders. Sadly the only victor in war is death. 😥😥 P.s. I’m going with my daughter and grandson to see them in Glasgow next March, can’t wait 💕🤗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Yeah, some regiments had actually gotten so attached to the opposing team that they refused to open fire so many soldiers had to get placed on the eastern front

@@someone-wh2rb yea the Germans were sent to the eastern front as traitors to die, they sang the songs of the Scots and the English the entire way. Several of the Ally soldiers got shot for “cowardice”. As the ottoman captain from the one Gallipoli series said. The officers are the politicians and the dead are the diplomacy.

It takes a lot to make me emotional but the story of the Christmas Truce always tugs at my heart. If you really want to see a tear-jerker involving this story, then watch the Sainsbury 2014 Christmas ad.

I highly recommend you to see the movie "Joyeux Noël" from 2005 wich is a movie about the events that took place on christmas in 1914. I had to see it myself after I saw this musicvideo and it was amazing. Beside that I really enjoy your reaction videos of Sabaton. An easy thumbs up and a new swedish subscriber. Take care :)

I went down late in the day on the 24th, struck in the engine I could not press on. My crate nosed over into shell hole, I came to much later. I could do nothing but hide, the madness of no-mans land reigns terror on those caught in it. Darkness fell, and an eternity lay before me as I plotted my way out. But something happened that night, a soul deafening silence fell upon the front, followed soon by a single voice in song. Not believing what I was hearing, I peered over the mangled wings covering my hole. I saw a single man, standing above the trenches, hands behind his back, singing as though his humanity depended on it. It filled me with a chill the night and snow could not give. Then more of his comrades stood to join him, and they walked onward, slowly and un-armed. I heard a heavy Scottish voice say; "Are ye a'right lad?". A highlander with his pipes was standing aside my hole, his hand extended. Without a thought, I responded: "Shaken, but not dead." "It's Christmas, Lad. C'mon." I stood, and took his hand for help from the hole. Around me I saw what could be described as a wonderous occasion. Men of all sides stood in the desolation, talking in what tongues they knew as though there was no war. There was no hate, no blood, no malice, only cordial respect and humanity. I wondered then, what we were fighting these men for. It struck me then, that each of us had a job to do, but tonight we all refused to do that job and simply be human. The voices rose again in song, and the piper played as we walked to the gathering. I couldn't help but feel that there was hope for us afterall, that we are all the same, no matter our uniforms, our rifles, or our futures. I love the fact that this song is so powerful, you mentioned that your father served and you must be so proud of that. I myself was not allowed to serve due to loosing an eye, but my respect for those that did has never waned. I did manage to help our services in different ways (IT etc) but will never loose respect for those that were the real heroes.

I shed a few tears with you my dear. these guys are amazing. I’m a new fan and all I can say is… where the hell have these guys been my whole life?! I discovered them in Reading, PA when they opened for Judas Priest this past September. Judas Priest of course was awesome but I took away something much more. I became a fan of Sabaton!!
