not all sailors or soldiers were Nazi's. Many were pressed into the armed service and some families thought you should fight for your country. A side note-the boat the band is playing on I was told is right over where the Bismark was sunk and lies a mile under where they were singing. Hi Jen. in WW2 germans werent "asked" if they want to be soldiers. They were told to ! Death sentence was the punishmen for not going... So being a NAZI or not wasnt the question.

That old captain was the last survivor of the Battleship Bismarck. You are right about ships about being referred as female ... with one exception, the Bismarck was referred as an he.

The bismark wasn't sunk by there enemies. It was scuttled. Sunk by there own crew to prevent anyone boarding her.

Interesting enough the “ captain “ they had for the boat was a Bismarck survivor. Soon after production he passed away. Another fact most Germans weren’t nazis, which was very evident near the end of the war when infighting broke out between the Wehrmacht and the SS.

The young men were pretty much victims of propaganda. The 110 sailors rescued by the British said they had'n actually met a Britt before and they told the British sailors treated them very well and they were the nicest people the Germans had ever met. Some opposite side sailors became friends for their lifetime. Bismarck and Titanic were actually found by the same man: Robert Ballard.

You're right about the fact that Sabaton's whole concept is military history. They simply tell the story of what happened, but they don't take sides. That's why they get away with singing about German "Ghost division" (WW2) in Poland and "Primo Victoria" (about D-Day) in Germany. Sabaton is huge in Germany and Eastern Europe. I really recommend you to check out those songs I mentioned above. Also check out "No bullets fly" (animated story video). It kind of "twists your mind... " 😉🤘

It's funny how you mention that boats and ships are always called "she's". Bismarck was in fact the exception. It was one of the largest battleships of the time with incredibly powerful guns, a "beast made of steel" as Sabaton called it. Bismarck's captain, Ernst von Lindemann, took all this into consideration and concluded that his ship was simply too big, too strong, too powerful, just too f*cking brutal and badass to be considered a "she." Thus Lindemann referred to Bismarck as a "he" and recommended that everyone on the ship follow suit. So Bismarck is the only ship in history to bear masculine pronouns. You can even hear it in the lyrics. "HE was made to rule the waves." "HIS guns have gone silent at last."

sabaton songs are all about military history they have songs about almost everything that has to with war you have songs about ww1, ww2, samurai's, sacking of rome etc and almost all of em are good songs !
