The Satisfying ASMR of Phantom Thread
Ойын-сауық
For the best experience, use headphones and enjoy the incredible and satisfying ASMR sounds of the movie Phantom Thread, without music, just pure raw audio.
Film Synopsis:
Set in the glamour of the 1950's post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of the British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock's life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all…love.

This is why i like older movies with the mics that pick up footsteps and clothes moving. I love in a western when someone walks across a wooden floor lol.

Most of them are sounds created by sound artists tho. It’s interesting if you look up how they make sound effects to match scenes in movies! I also agree, I love that wooden floor sound and the sound of gravel crunching under someone’s feet 😂

But I totally get your point. One of my favorite is the SHINING. The asmr in that is crazy. Them walking through the halls getting the tour, the silence and echos of the hotel, the black guys voice, the long shots, etc. The mics just sounded more authentic and picked up more naturally
sound design is something so ridiculously underrated in film. any little sound in a movie, from the unfolding of clothes to the sliding of a business card, ALL has to be picked up by microphones, mixed in, (sometimes foleyed), and have to convey the tone & match the direction of the film. movies like this work WONDERS with it, and im not surprised to see this movie used for ASMR as, in some ways, that feeling you feel from the sound design is INTENTIONAL.

Could not agree more. I've done some minor sound work before (just helping out friends, normally in front of the screen 😅) and damn does it make a difference having good sound technicians. It can really make the whole film - the breakfast scene sort of proved in a way just how important sound can be.
I'm super happy about this because it means that studios now get how popular unintentional ASMR is and possibly will produce ASMR content in the future. I'd definitely pay for ASMR feature films

Even if not full blown ASMR, I feel some movies/shows are suffocated with music nowadays. A renewed appreciation of Silence as a background is much needed in the toolkit of movie makers, imo

I love that they removed the music 🎶 But that is the dedication needed for a well deserved compilation. 😊

For anyone looking for more of this type of stuff just pay attention to a movies sound mixing/editing. Lots of movies carry great satisfying sound design and most people overlook it. On the top of my head some great films that have amazing sound are call me by your name, Roma, and portrait of a lady on fire.

BTW A phantom thread is a real phenomenon. It what they call it when seamtresses have been sewing all day, and when they stop, their jaid will keep on moving like they are still sewing. So, phantom thread refers to a repetative action, just like Reynolds is repeating his patterns.
Portrait of a lady on fire is pure asmr too
Is this location sound or mostly foley work?
I have watched this like 10 times. I gotta watch the movie now

I recognize the range top as a Swedish AGA Oven. They operate by staying on pre-heat 24/7

I started off paying attention to the ASMR of it all but a couple of minutes in I was struck by Daniel's ability to act. I mean, he is on my Top 5 of all time but this was just incredible. I gotta watch this movie now, I think.
This is why I bought the DVD.
Great movie
This is a long stride from Bob Ross clips and Lita Massage videos. And just reminding scenes that gave you tingles back in the VHS tape days
35years recording and mixing dialogue in almost no genres left, have never heard anyone in our field albeit production or post utter ASMR. We just convey characters motif using sound. Yes, sound performs with the actors!! But this is definitely an interesting vid which is recognising the sound crew. Thank U ( fun fact: 95% of the time Producers have no clue what sound dept 'does' and 100% of the time sound never gets respect. All love goes to cam)
“Hmm… our film keeps coming up in unintentional asmr videos. What do?” “Create the definitive asmr cut of our movie.”
Amazing. Also shows Andersons genius.
Lmao He got extremely hungry when she cooked 😂😂
I watched the whole video to my surprise
So glad they cut out the creepy bit with Cyril smelling her
I feel if his line was kept in that criticizes her bust then all the things she does later to annoy him would’ve been funnier and justified but this is still relaxing and entertaining to watch! And a really good movie
He could play the virgin Mary and I'd believe him. There is no finer actor.
0:25 I started laughing realizing I’m laying here sleepy, watching a man clean himself and get dressed.

I watched this with my spanish speaking mum, because it was dubbed in spanish i missed the incredible sound editing of this movie
I have no context for this movie but it seems like this lady is Daniel Day-Lewis’ second wife and her learning curve for dealing with his idiosyncrasies is STEEP
I only recently discovered what asmr is and that it's not uncommon at all. Thought I was a weirdo because I find certain sounds to be very relaxing. Never knew what it was or why for the longest time. Edward Scissorhands is another film with several great ASMR scenes.
The foley here is incredibly.
