Set in the glamour of the 1950's post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of the British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock's life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all…love. And so begins a Gothic Romance of twists, turns and power struggles of "pure, delicious pleasure"

Far and away the most involving , gloriously verdant , luxuriously evolved and looking example of cinema that I have ever enjoyed . Followed it around the frozen north of Cumbria during that particularly month-long cold spell (for us) in February and March 2018. A handful only of watchers at each showing -?.. I’ll put it down to the frozen roads and the ‘Beast from the East’; as that ‘cold snap’ was named. A very rare work of art , beauty and intelligent , masterly film - making. Still looking for the ‘70mm print’ copy that I know exists. It was and is so uniquely special that I can only , really watch it in the dark of a cold winter’s evening amongst quiet candles . It takes you to another time .

I went to fashion and design school and did, oh, probably 100 costumes for community theatre and many dance companies. I get enormous pleasure out of watching this film.
The dressmaker is actually a couturier, like the British Norman Hartnell who catered to the aristocracy in the 50's.
This has to be the most boring movie known to man
