    I love how out of all of the collections the single one that affected Dream was the infant. His expression as he approaches the crib and watches the mother start to become aware that something was wrong was so beautifully haunted. Such a brilliant foreshadow to the Orpheus reveal and Tom crushed it. Interesting fact on the subject of the infant, when Death says "I'm afraid so, that's all you get." In the comic it establishes that she's actually responding to the infant directly asking her.

    When I first saw the cast for the series, I was a little surprised at Death being played by a black actress, but then I realized that the Endless don't have ethnicities; what we see is a form that we can relate to and understand. Now that I've seen a few clips from the series, I see that the actress playing Death absolutely nails the character's personality perfectly, and I'm happy. Excellent casting choice!

  • @catwhowalksbyhimself

    @catwhowalksbyhimself

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah, that's what the complainers are missing. They aren't really people and their appearances are just for our conveniences, so it doesn't really matter what ethnicity the actor is. The comic appearances were meant to symbolize the character, so as long as they do the same thing here, it doesn't have to be the same appearance as long as the character is preserved.

  • @kitirena_koneko

    @kitirena_koneko

    Жыл бұрын

    @@catwhowalksbyhimself Exactly! Doubly so because in the comic, Dream's appearance changes--sometimes WILDLY so--depending on who he's appearing to. In the side story Ramadan, set in the Middle East, he appears Middle Eastern. In one story set in Africa, he appears as a handsome African warrior. When he appears to the Martian Manhunter in a dream, he takes the form of the Martian god of dreams and sleep, and in the story The Dream of A Thousand Cats, he appears to the story's narrator, a housecat, as a panther-sized black cat with glowing green eyes. It's even more explicit with Desire, who appears as whichever gender(s) you're most attracted to--so if you're a straight woman or a gay guy, Desire appears as a smoking hot hunk, while a lesbian or straight guy would see them as a supermodel-gorgeous woman. To a bisexual or pansexual, I assume Desire would appear as a non-binary person embodying all the traits of both masculinity and femininity that the person in question is most drawn to. (And to someone like me with my weird futa fetish, Desire would probably appear as a sexy futa babe with just the right size bulge in her panties.) From what I've seen so far in the different KZread clips I've seen, the casting director went for as much of the essence of the comic character's appearance as possible, but still finding actors who can portray the character as depicted in the comic. Death, for example, has the "cool big sis" energy that she has in the comic, a kind of "hey, I know the _idea_ of death and dying can be scary, but that doesn't mean I have to appear as something frightening when I can look like someone you'd feel comfortable hanging out in a park with for a day." Mason Park has the wonderful androgyny that Desire had in the comics, Donna Preston looks like a real-life version of Despair, and Gwen Christie looks like Lucifer, and from what little I've seen, they all do great jobs playing their respective roles.

    What I love about the portrayal of Death in Sandman, is that it doesn't shy away from the nitty gritty. We are in one big queue for the end but we don't know where we are in that queue. I have always liked to think of death as a friend rather than a force that rips people away. I have found that has helped me deal with my own grief and my own fears of death. I must say Kirby did a good job portraying Death, I feel she gave the character justice. I love how the character of Death from the comics was initially as sullen and moody as Dream is here and one day she decided to take a “vacation” of sorts and become human fated to die one day. After experiencing living and what it is like to actually die she then embraced the job she hated and decided to become nicer, to become the friend one needs at the end of your life and for your journey to the next one. What I especially like about this is that she continues to have these “vacations” so that she never loses that perspective.

    The main reason she has them is because one time she was shepherding a little girl who didn't want to die and didn't understand why, just like Dream didn't. When Death asked her why she was making a big deal out of it, the response was "well, how you would like it?" and that bugged her because she genuinely never had the experience.

    Everybody fears death cause they don't know what's on the other side even with what religion tells us, but still. Or they fear damnation, or their atheist and think there's nothing just like before u were born. Death herself here shows when u a good person, there's really nothing to fear. I'll bet the real angel of death is just like that cause after all, she or he, is an angel.

    I kinda wanna know the significance of the endless' relationships with each other, why is Desire determined to bring down Dream?, why is dream closer to Death more than anyone? why is Desire and Despair considered twins? Like I know it would probably be answered in the next seasons and whatnot, but still, curiousity.

    Death, Dream and Destiny represent order and balance in human life. Desire, despair and delirium represent turbulence and chaos. Think of them as the unstable/unpredictable elements. Destruction is removed from the whole equation because his existence is redundant. He doesn't serve any purpose.

    Desire and Dream were once close friends, but then Desire decided to be a jerk and mess with Dream and matters got worse from there. As for Death and Dream, probably because they are the oldest after Destiny. Despair was made from Desire after the first Despair was killed (we don’t know the details but apparently it was justified).

    Taking the Husband upset me, Taking the Baby, brought this man to Tears. I have a child now myself. He's 3 this year. Me and My Wife had two miscarriages and tried for a decade. 7 weeks ago I got in an Accident on my Motorbike. I thought she'd come to collect. Clearly she gave me a reprieve. I thought I'd dealt with most my emotions around this, but seems I haven't. One thing stood out though. Just how kind she is about the unfortunate situation of having to do her job. This episode and her Character is how I've always thought Death is. I'm wondering if she gets Drunk and Mixes up her list, whether she has to give people their lives back, albeit maybe with some injuries.
