And the actors are fans of the comic. Especially Tom Sturridge. The guy sounds like me when I nerd out at my friends about my special interests. I never read the original, but if I had to guess it was making white characters black(like death) and male characters female(like Constantine), say whatever you(not you specifically, just a generic “you”) want about bigotry(you’ll probably be partially right), but there’s been an extensive history of going woke and making bad entertainment, so now people are conditioned to assume the worst. PS: it’s true that the original author approved the changes, but it wouldn’t be the first time an author screwed over his lore, JK Rowling was basically excommunicated of her own fandom

@@victormagoco9752 Death is not really a black or white character, that's just the perspective so the change there related to the story is not that important (also the casting call didn't specify a race, they just wanted an actor who could portray the character's personality and I believe Kirby was a great choice). About Constantine being a female, apparently it had something to do with WB future plans for the character. There're already 2 male versions of him in live action, adding one for just one season of a show before they introduce their new version could be confusing for some people, and yes a lot of people gets confused very easily. At the same time the character of Lady Johanna (the ancestor) will return in the future, this way they can use the same performer for more than just a couple of appearances.

Then again, I often feel happier when I'm dreaming than when I'm awake, I find most of my dreams pretty cozy, an escape from the real world. I do have a bad dream every now and then. I guess I'm on pretty good terms with Morpheus 🤭 I understand that imagination can make us dread about the future and conjure up terrible visions, so in a way I understand why Morpheus says that he's much more terrifying than his older sister. I suppose one reason Dream and Death are so close is because Death is sometimes called the "eternal sleep". When one is in a deep sleep state and has no dreams, that's probably the closest thing to "being dead" while still being alive. 🤔
I've seen several people online say that Death is "nothing like" the character from the comic-that she is too upbeat, too positive. I'm glad to see this word-for-word comparison. The only Sandman comic I ever read was "Death: The High Cost of Living." I read it around 20 years ago. The performance in this new series exactly captured the spirit of the character I remember from that comic. And I remember that the comic made me feel something deeply enough to make me cry. I cried-not sobbing, but I got teary-twice during Death's episode of The Sandman. It was my favorite episode. I can't understand why people have complained about the casting. I think this actress is excellent and she is portraying Death exactly as I remember reading her decades ago.
@kyransawhill6650

As someone who’s read the comic and some of the spin-offs Death has appeared in, Kirby Howell-Baptiste really brings the character to life (ironically enough). Curiously, I’ve seen people complain that she wasn’t upbeat enough compared to the comic, since she didn’t say stuff like “supercalifragilisticexpialadocious” or “peachy-keen,” but I think it made more sense to depict her the way they did. She’s less a peppy goth-punk teenager and more a serene, wise, and soothing presence who truly makes you feel at ease in the presence of, well, Death. And that is the most vital part of the character. If you haven’t seen it already, I recommend the animated short, “DC Showcase: Death.” It’s a beautiful story and you can find it in parts on KZread. I think that serves as a pretty good comparison to this live-action Death.

It’s a mad, insignificant detail (especially when you consider the quality of the adaptation as a whole), but I just LOVE that they managed to capture the essence of Dream’s hair 🤣! Little detail that polishes the character’s appearance, because his hair seems to have a mind of its own.

She's also a relief from suffering for so many. My mother was in agony before she died, to the point she literally asked my sister and me both to kill her. She was too young to die, but continuing to live would have been hell for her. I took the Buzzfeed "Which The Sandman character are you?" quiz, and it asked what one dream-come-true power you wish you had. One of them was to bring someone back from the dead. My immediate instinct was to choose that one so that I could bring my mother back to life. But then I immediately realized that if I did that, I may be snatching her up from somewhere she is not suffering and trapping her back in a body that tormented her. That would have made me the ultimate evil being acting out of selfishness.
