The Sad Story of Henry (1953)
Фильм және анимация
Vintage adaptation of the beloved story.
THIS IS A FAKE!
A remake!
A remake of an adaptation! I know... I know and I'm sorry. I've wanted to make this for some time, actually, as it's so odd to have the first adaptation of the Railway Series lost to time.
In putting this together, I really must thank ButterflyCoffee who kindly came on board to recapture the spirit of the original narrator, Julia Lang. I think it's a superb recreation, full of character - and it drives this thing along. ButterflyCoffee has an ongoing series and a succession of brilliant voice performances - so do take a look and subscribe!
/ percylover06
Secondly, "The Thomas the Tank Engine Man", by Brian Sibley, was a crucial source of info about the original pilot. I learnt all sorts and took the details with me as I sifted through lots of vintage clips, before having a crack at capturing the spirit of the original as best I could. There's no way to comment on accuracy, as we've so little to go on - but I hope it feels authentic. I'll be chuffed if it does.
And if you've stumbled upon this, with particular expectations - I really do apologise. I love the Railway Series and I love vintage television - so this was a total delight to bring to life, and is only really meant as a bit of fun. After all, as I write this, it is the 75th anniversary of the first Railway Series book, and that's reason enough to look back at its long legacy with a smile.
George

That was a splendid recreation of lost-media we're still waiting to discover after many decades! The thumbnail of this made me look forward to what was coming, especially seeing the BBC "Bat Wings" logo, which was introduced around the time when "The Sad Story of Henry" broadcast to the BBC. The narrator sounds spot-on to British narrators of children's programmes from this era, e.g. Watch with Mother. I also recognise that BBC Children's Television intro shown at the beginning and putting that before the programme will confuse some into thinking this is real. :P The adaption of this surprised me, especially seeing James appear. I like how normal the scene from 2:26-2:39 is, considering back in the day, these were live broadcasts, and they couldn't edit the errors out. Seeing the brick wall appearing in front of Henry at 5:34 with a string attached is another example, since this was live, they couldn't add bricks one by one as the hands would appear on live television again! This video along with others from the "75th Surprise Packet" made my day today, this is the best recreation attempt I've seen of this lost-media in a while! :-)

Can I just say, this is one of the most brilliant recreations of "The Sad Story of Henry" I've ever seen so far. Probably one of the best lost media recreations of this year 2020!! And it is nice to see the whole episode recreated, rather than just that one incident scene. I've been waiting to see this accurate recreation of this for 3 years and it's finally here. YAY!!!! And also, that BBC narrator for this episode sounded real, was that an audio taken from an old BBC Radio broadcast? Since at the time, most radio shows were archived, whilst the television shows weren't. Just wondering. But overall, that was the most brilliant recreation I've ever seen so far!! Keep up with the awesome work SodorsNWRstream!!!! :D

Masterpiece! I genuinely mean that, in the way you have filmed this there was nothing about it that would have made me think it was a regular fan project. This really does look and feel like an actual 1950s program from the way you have thought of camera angles, the way the smoke comes onto the set, the animation, narration, lighting, screen ratio, stock footage etc. And I love how you rewrote the opening by using phrases used in later stories to introduce us to the characters in a way that film producers may have done it back then. Down the Mine has a bigger chance of being found; that was actually edited and copied around, and odds are that someone could still have it. Plus, 30 years younger means an even better chance of being in passable shape Edit: Okay so yeah it, wasn't the real footage, but that was a really plausible mock-up I can see why Awdry wouldn't have liked it lmao

Wow! I've been wondering how this could've been found but how did you get hold of it? where has it been this whole time? and will we finally see the "jerky Railway operation" as Wilbert described it I cannot wait! Edit: this was before I watched it and realised it was fake

I don't even mind the Bachmann James, this is insanely accurate to how the real footage would have looked. Great work!
Now man this is fantastic. I thought this was the real deal but you are fantastic

@@SodorsNWRsteam this looks almost exact. The only thing is that they were all hornby princess royal classes in the live one
Truthfully, part of me is suspicious to it being the real thing. However, I won’t let that take out for me as since with your quality film work, many could believe if it is the actual thing. Either way, I am still excited and can’t wait to see it. Edit: After watching it, it would be so real that many could believe it is real. I love this adaptation. It's lovely to every last detail of it.

According to certain details James is absent. Henry, Edward and Thomas were the ones involved
This looks so real, I thought it was the actual version. Great work!

I knew this wasn't the real BBC story, but I'm not mad at you for that. I think your version is more beautiful than what I imagine the genuine article might look like. I only wish the BBC's sad story of Henry had been successful. If it had been, Thomas & Friends might've avoided the horrid reboot by Mattel and Nelvana. I also wish Julia Lang had been hired as the 1st narrator of the RWS audiobooks.

Indeed, although this PARTICULAR version is simply a reconstruction. Now if only we’d get the remake of the 1976 Andrew Lloyd Webber pilot.

@@thatrandomredengine9430 Might’ve followed the series by doing each of the stories in a sorta chronological order. I say sorta because Sad Story was the 3rd book in the original series.
This is fantastic!
Well done on getting the queen to do your narration 👍🏾
