A creative drought had kept me, for quite some time, in a rut. Then one day, not too long ago, an image popped into my head:: Trevor the Traction Engine and Picasso. Such a combination was so utterly bizarre I knew something wacky and fun could be pulled from it. It wasn't until Dan came in to help write the story properly, though, that the whole concept was fleshed out, something I owe him much credit for.
"Picture Perfect" was refreshing to make because it felt like a breath of fresh air in multiple ways. For one thing; this marks my first venture into an episode based away from the railway itself, something I've admired in stories from the magazines and annuals in particular; productions which I imagine had a little more freedom to tell stories away from the railway than the TV show itself. One of the many storytelling benefits of Sodor is it's vastness, both in characters and locations. The image of Trevor travelling across the Sudrian countryside with a little trailer is something I'm particularly fond of!
A few thanks in particular, in relation to this video:
Dan: For keeping me on track and being absolutely invaluable in helping me make this (as always it seems). From writing to editing to making Trevor expressions, the whole story became something tangible because Dan was there to nurse me through the creative process at all the steps along the way. Thanks man!
Chris: Someone whose videos I am so very inspired by. It's been lovely to get in touch with you, and you really provided a fantastic narration that gave this story a lot of heart and soul.
Jake: For jumping in at the last second to produce some great Thomas-y melodies. Your musical talent is something to behold, and I'm sorry I couldn't put all the ditties in! You can listen to some of the isolated themes by Jake here: • Show your paces, Trevor!
Haydn: For jumping in, also, to help me out with some of the visual effects. The image of the Vicar adorning a beret and artist satchel made me laugh a lot, and I hope I did your handy work justice in the final result.
Until the next time,
George

George this was incredibly well edited and showed a stunning variety of techniques. The RWS feel of this was spot on, as was the humor. "Hello!" Poor Terrence...Chris, of course, did a stellar job with narrating. I enjoyed this so much. :) great work!

I'd say this is a Masterpiece, no pun intended! It's such a simple concept - Trevor taking some artists around. But it works so effectively! The whole progression of the story is graceful, from start to finish. And the comedic bit with Terence wasn't a 'Hit and Miss' (sorry! XD) with me, I was gasping for air I was laughing so much! Brilliant work, I loved this so much!

"Hello...!" *smash* Hahahaha As skarlouie's said, this feels like an annual story and you've captured the style of it very well. I think it's because the annuals were more willing to stray from the rails when it came to the likes of Trevor, Terrence, Bertie etc and that's certainly what you've done here. Great stop motion also, really got a few laughs (even where it was unintentional) from the group popping around. Poor old Trevor towards the end :p To have him in an accident is something that hasn't happened before. That's every Sodor character ticked off with an accident now I'm sure!

That was wonderful George! A great story, with a good mix of humour and a lot of the warmth of Awdry's writing. I remember you asking me to edit some things together for you, and to see it come together so nicely was brilliant. And I will admit, the runaway made me laugh a little harder than it should have done. Great work!

Lovely slice-of-life story here, with a seamless blend of models, Trainz and cleverly-edited effects shots. My only suggestion for next time would be to include some different faces for the one-line characters, as it seems Cyril appeared several times here with different voices. ;) A minor niggle though. Kudos to all involved - it's always heartening to see groups of friends banding to help each other and make the best videos they can. Reminds me of the Sodor Studios era. Having also done voices for some of Dan, Hadyn and Louie's videos recently, I think it's safe to say this generation of Thomas fans has some creative forces to be reckoned with. OK, I'll stop talking like an old fogey now. Lol. Thanks for asking me to take part! :)

+TheKipperRunsAgain I've returned to this wonderful comment several times and at each occurrence the option reply button has not been there! Thank god it's been fixed! It was a real treat to be able to collaborate with you in this way, and I think a lot of the story's effectiveness must be accredited to your brilliant narration. One of my favourite aspects of production in this community is that I find myself with the wonderful privilege of being able to work together with friends to create better stories, and it's really something that makes returning to the page, camera or editing software a joyous experience. Thank you very much! (P.S, the re-inclusion of Cyril was intentional, but I certainly see where you're coming from!)

I'm fairly sure that whether any Terences were harmed, they would still be carrying the same, slightly unnerving grin that they always wear... That was a really enjoyable episode. The road characters don't get much time in the limelight these days so it's always nice to see something where they heavily feature, and they allow different styles of story that you couldn't quite pull off on the rails. The runaway Trevor sequence was hilarious - possibly the fastest we'll ever see Trevor go - and the crash was just perfect. Very well done to all involved in the making of it. :)

Awesome George! I like how you centered on the road vehicles, and I like how you customized Trevor's model too! And the scene with him rolling down the hill into Terence's shed, only for the group to draw him in the debris much to his obligation, was pretty funny! Great work George!

What a plot perfect story! :D I'm amazed! This was truly brilliant and I am very impressed! The story alone was actually really lovely and I loved the "rural Sodor" feel about it. An episode more or less without any railway interaction too! The filming and editing is equally superb mate, and I see you've quickly got the hang of masking and chroma-keying. Usually I'd suggest not to overuse this but in a story utilizing human interaction so much its okay. Also, what happened to Mr Casio following the events?! And it would be nice to see a close up of the painting! ^_^ But seriously, I'm in awe at the work put into this one, its a marvellous episode! Also... Mr Casio... hmm... Pi-Caso..? Oh I don't know XD THIS is what I call a quality fan-made episode! Well done to you!

HA! Someone got that pun, you're actually the first to get it haha :) I've always loved the concept of where you could go with stories away from the railway, and because of the departure it presented from my normal stuff I thought, visually, it might be interesting to do the same. As for Cassio? Well, he left the amateur painting club, and tends to stay away from hills and bushes...
