Hello all - been a while hasn’t it? Of course, at this point, my long absences have become the norm. In fact, I was horrified to realise that this is my first non-Christmas story since “Picture Perfect”, which was uploaded in August 2015! So, as usual, I shall reassure everyone and tell them not to worry as more things are coming very soon. Perhaps I am setting myself up for my usual fall, but for the first time in a long while I find myself with quite a lot to make and a fair amount of time to make it in. I hope there will be more from me shortly.
Here’s an episode with quite the history. Originally this was a tale called “Percy the Bird-Spotter” which in 2013. I liked the story but Percy has featured quite a bit in my stories and I was keen to shift focus towards the other characters in my videos. Fast forward to late 2015, where I decide that I should revive the project, fixing my meagre conundrum by making it a Toby story instead. Dan kindly went through and rewrote the script, tailoring it towards the tram engine’s character. In the bargain I got a lovely narration from him too - bird noises intact!
I started filming the episode in June of last year, beginning on the Dryaw set. Soon I became distracted with other things and a general lack of interest, before Christmas rolled around and my attention completely turned towards a different episode, “Festivites and Fire Engines”. Ultimately, this was a story which I was frustrated to be tethered to, reluctant to finish when I could make other things, but obliged to not make them because of this. It’s a shame really, because when I finally got round to filming the last few scenes, about a month ago, I really started to enjoy the project a lot. Toby has always been a favourite of mine, and the idea of finishing a four year old story became rather charming indeed.
“What a Lark!”, as it is now titled, is here, and for the most part I’m fairly happy with the finished result. There are earlier scenes which I wasn’t completely satisfied with; in a year I’ve learnt a lot and thus forth some parts stand up better than others. Generally, however, it’s nice to have this done, not only for the sake of completion but new-found enjoyment in an old product. I hope you will enjoy it too.
Until the next time,
George

I take it this great story is based somewhat on "Thomas and the Emergency Cable." Good thing we got to know what the "rare bird" is called. Also, fine cameos of the Crosby night owl and Dilly the duck in the photo album. "Elsbridge Warbler." ROFL
Bird spotting sounds much better then bird watching

This is another good example of animals bringing material for an enjoyable story. I for one have become as interested in birds as I have in steam engines and the little bird sculpture was a simple and cute little model.
Oh my. This is most wonderful! Lovely camera quality and writing :3
Great stuff man :D It's interesting to hear how this was originally for Percy at first, Toby seems to suit a more gentler story swirling around birdwatching :) Quite admired a lot of things here both story wise and visually, particularly Harold's blades, I had actually been convinced he was motorised ;D
I had a double take when I'd seen the new thumbnail for this in my suggested feed. Thought it was a new video 😅 Decided to watch it again nonetheless! Has aged very well so it has, fun sets and catches the humble branchline vibe really well :)

Ah, thanks so much! I thought I'd give some of the old videos a refresh, as it were, but how lovely that you took the time to revisit it.
Paper faces - 0/10 In all seriousness, I love this. Feels very much like a Chris Awdry annual story. Excellent work! :)

Simply wonderful George! You've done a lovely job on this. :)
Wonderful George! This is really good!
Marvellous George, loved every second of it! :D
Dude, this video was great. If you could do a video on making that Toby, that would be legit.
Wonderful this deserves more comments likes and views absolutely amazing.
I love this.
Great episode as always :D
This was a piece of Art. That was a nice little story. Although I do have two request. My first is that you could jazz up the Hornby Thomas with a Light grey footplate. Second, you should make something about Bear. He is very downgraded and could use some character! These are only suggestions, but please consider!
Nice story, can't wait to see more
Hello lad good to see you uploading:) Great film.
Marvellous video. Really well done.
Fantastic work.
Great work, I love it
Good work you've done here, took me a while to appreciate the story but i think it's quite clever how you brought up the subject of bird spotting being no different to train spotting. I guess any hobby seems basic when you strip it down. The visuals were really good as well. - Ethan
Good job
Well played trick with cutting off Toby's theme
the man sounds a lot like Patrick Troughton
This was an amazing video! Very RWS-esque. I adore your Toby model. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, who made the Engine Roll Call instrumental, at the end.

Thanks! I had that version on a hard drive which has since died a painful death. I'd assume SudrianAfro(?) but I'm open to being wrong.
