"THE RULES ARE THE RULES!" PALA MX REWIND / Bubba's World w/ James Stewart

The Great Outdoors are HERE people! First Round of the Pro Motocross Championship took place in Pala, California and we were interested to see if Jett would pick up right where he left off last summer going undefeated, which he did. Last year he ran away with it and didn't seem to show any signs of being beat but we break down how this summer looks to be different as Chase Sexton and Hunter Lawrence both showed signs of speed and being able to challenge Jett. In the 250 class it was wide open for the taking, and Haiden Deegan came in and took control of the field but not without some drama of course. We break down the AMA ruling of docking Tom Vialle for running off the track, but not penalizing Haiden for doing it as well.

That's why he only does a few select rounds mostly ones close to Florida, and then he does a lot of outdoors. Ricky isn't a professional announcer, but he knows the sport for sure, that's always been their thing is to have one common announcer that can relay things to casual fans, and then one ex pro who gets into more detail for the people who want that.

It wasn’t just balls, it was an extreme intelligence and clear application of that intelligence to be a student of the craft. Wow. We’re incredibly lucky to get his insights in real time as an announcer along with the more in depth analysis here. It’s so great that he’s still involved in moto! Thanks as always, Bubba. You are the man! I think Deegan is amazing, most rich kids are not that motivated, and don't really focus on much, they know they are set for life. For that kid(Deegan) to get up at 5am and go workout on his own, then work his butt off riding day in and day out like a military routine is simply amazing. You can't make a kid be successful at ANYTHING if they don't want to do it. Deegan grew up in a perfect storm with him being so focused on motocross and the family means to make it happen. He and his family have my respect. It will be fun to see him move to 450 and race with Jett and Hunter. Now if I could just get my kid to mow my lawn, I'd be a happy man, haha.

Hayden is in the same situation that Chad Reed was in his whole career but worse.

JS…. The thing is, you can accelerate off track. It just can’t be in an “UNSAFE MANNER” and you “CANNOT GAIN AN ADVANTAGE”. Which he didn’t. Listen to what Andrew Short said on the PulpMX podcast last night. He works with the AMA and he was involved in this ruling. He agreed with you at first, but they had more camera angles and more specific timing stats. They showed Vialle gained, Deegan lost time. Vialle and Deegan were completely different scenarios too. Vialle manual hopped back into the rollers without looking whatsoever. That’s “UNSAFE” with a rider right behind you. They made the call, let’s move on. Honestly, I’m annoyed that everyone is focusing on this and not Kitchen and Deegan’s dominating performance. It was sick. Even Hymas dude. I appreciate JS actually talking about that part. Title 24 sure as heck didn’t 👎🏻👎🏻. Deegan didn’t win that race because of the off track excursions. I know you can say it was unfair to penalize Tom and not Deegan, but they have timing stats to prove Deegan didn’t gain time. Like I said, you can accelerate off track. Just not in an UNSAFE MANNER. They should just give Vialle his points back and go forward.

"Unsafe manner"- you mean like the guy who had to jump out of the way so Deegan didn't hit him while he was accelerating up toward the transition to jump back onto the track? And the AMA SAYS that time was gained or lost, but they never backed that up by actually showing anybody any supporting video, did they. Took them almost 4 hours to cobble together a story and get everyone, including Shorty, on the same page.

The gap is down to just over a second so Vialle lost .7 or .8 seconds. When did Haiden cheat? Haiden is a racer, that’s it. He can’t help if the officials don’t penalize him, that’s not his decision to make. He also doesn’t build the motors for his bikes or know anything about them, so he isn’t cheating if the bike at Loretta’s was illegal, that would be on his team for putting him on an illegal bike (which nobody has any idea if it was illegal or not, so quit acting like it was). But, if you knew anything about this sport you’d know that the majority of racers cheat, especially in amateur racing 🤣. It’s a pretty huge issue so stop acting like the Deegans are the only ones to ever “cheat”, even though neither of those two incidents you named had anything to do with cheating. One was a team not wanting to get rid of their home they spent a long time perfecting for their rider, which doesn’t mean it was illegal just because they didn’t want some nobody kid to have it and the other was a 50/50 on whether or not what he did while off track was within the rules or not, once again, not cheating. You can’t say someone cheated just because the officials didn’t penalize them 🤣🤦‍♂️ man, you deegan haters are fucking dumb, but hilarious. None of y’all have EVER said anything about a rider that has done the same shit but any time Haiden does any little thing, y’all are all over the internet crying about it 🤣🤣 and then being up something from 3 years ago. Watch his tires track every single little bump and rut with near zero movement of his bike. No elses bike looks like his. Thats why he never fades and never gets tired. That’s just because he can’t stay off the ground and healthy. Haiden and Levi haven’t had any trouble with getting hurt. Obviously yes, it could happen, but very unlikely and even if Haiden did have some injuries, he would eventually move up to the 450 with or without a 250 title. You don’t have to win a title to move up, they could both move up this wkd at hangtown and never go back to 250s if they wanted

I don't really understand the decision. I remember during the race James asked Mike, if it was up in the air or if it was clear-cut decision to penalize Tom and Mike said it was pretty clear-cut. Then later Deegan was on the podium and everybody kept congratulating him for going 1-1 and I was waiting for Mike to come out and make the call that he was penalized and Kitchen would get first in that moto. I thought the overall was going to be a 1-2 tie between Deegan and Kitchen.

Bubba your point regarding Deegan is 100% correct. However I will mention an interesting point. I am a combat veteran and a life coach. So my view is these athletes are kids 17-21. The media should realize the level of stress and pressure these guys manage week after week to WIN. In addition to this they have to get better and better while training to even be able to compete at this level. So my point is my feeling is the fan and the media should figure out how to encourage these kids good and bad if there intention looks to be inside the rules. So congratulations to both guys for not eating dirt because the motorcycle and the track seems to have sent them OB. Both of those guys are crazy fast so why do we hate the winner, it isn't just a penalty for going of track it is that he is focused, on the racing and the fans. Unfortunately, there have been many young world-class athletes That hang it up for good because of the constant negativity.

You still have to pass Jett, both Lawrence’s said they missed the mark on the bikes for the 2nd motto and where did they run. That should concern everyone that’s them on a bad bike setup. Deegan went off track 3 times, one of those he didn’t even try to stay on. He kept the speed and made the jumps. Viale went off once, he’s docked a position so either do the same to Deegan, or give Viale the position back.

He did let up every time. One of the times it was probably not enough but it wasn’t like he was full throttle. The worst of the incidents was first moto anyway and wouldn’t have changed anything in the overall, just a few points. Either way, they made their decision so everyone needs to just move on. I do agree that they should have went ahead and took Vialles penalty away though but it is what it is. When you win and when you’re the money maker for whatever sport, especially in your hometown, you get a little bit off leeway. They’ve also penalized him before and not others for the same exact thing in sx so it evened that out. That whole off track rule and penalty is dumb either way.

I haven’t heard anyone account for the fact out of deeg 3 off tracks: one was a lapped rider who was not paying attention , and deeg was in lead anyways.. being a leader vs not being a leader and penalties… rules say “to gain advantage” but as a leader what advantage does a small off track like these play a role?? Tom wasn’t in the lead right? But he did rip back on the woops. Also- absolutely stoked to see you back on the tube man!

James, from my observation, when Haiden Deegan got off track he was accelerating but he immediately let off the gas. However, when Tom Vialle got off track he was accelerating the whole time all the way back to the track (you can see the roost on his back wheel). I think that's why he was penalized and Haiden didn't. I love your show by the way!

After hearing you talk about Chase’s traction issue, is it something that is possibly as easy as taking out a bit of rebound damping to make the rear move faster? It seems like he likes the bike dead in the rear end. I used to be this way with my mountain bike until I started to mess around with a more active rear end by removing rebound. Seems like a good place to start but of course it’s not that simple

  • @yamahakid450f

    @yamahakid450f

    26 күн бұрын

If it were that easy it'd be solved before moto 2... Sexton has a very dead rear which was intentional, and he's never had a bike like that before, which tells me he's compensating for something else going on. So even though he looks better outdoors and you can ride around set up a bit easier and set up isn't as crucial, my guess is frame and chassis issues from being too stiff, but there's no way to know 100% without hearing it from Chase or the team

Deegan is the last guy on the class Levi wants to “blast off the track”. Idk if you haven’t been watching or what, but Haiden is an aggressive rider and knows how to take someone out and he’s very damn strong for an 18 year old and if Levi did that, Haiden would 100% give it back to him 100x worse and end Levi’s season. And if Levi went that far then Haiden would know his words got to Levi and he would just laugh and itd be over for Levi at that point.

With Chase's suspension is it possible they adjusted it so much to make him feel comfortable or to adjust to his style they've dialed him out? I mean it's about balance of course but sometimes you would have to think you should be on the edge to get the performance. And because of that he would need to adjust other areas of his style in order to adjust the suspension where it needs to be. A combination of too fast of compression with harder spring and not enough rebound would cause that tracking of the swing arm and fender your talking about. Is it almost bucking him on the rebound not like he's hitting a hard stop but spring rate versus the rebound rate is off?

I said it last year Jett’s bike rebounds so much faster than the rest of the field. He is set up more like a desert/off-road setting. That why he hits certain sections because the bike will kick. The rebound is also why jet can hop over sections or can clear some things easier and as James stated his bike climbs up on top faster and better than others.
