THE ROYAL SCOTS: Scottish Soldiers- Regimental Memories 1945 to 2006

Фильм және анимация

The Trustees of The Royal Scots Museum would very much like to invite you to take part in the virtual launch of our 55-minute film, “Scottish Soldiers : Regimental Memories: 1945- 2006”, that captures the experiences of being part of the Royal Scots family from fifteen of those involved with the Regiment.
It captures experiences from as far afield as Korea, Egypt, Aden, Cyprus, Germany, Northern Ireland, The Falkland Islands, Bosnia and Iraq.
Colonel Martin Gibson said: "Spurred on by Jack Hall, one of our surviving WW2 veterans saying that we owed it to the Regiment to capture memories of life in The Royal Scots Regimental family from 1945 to 2006. When our proud traditions were taken forward by Scotland’s infantry Regiment by The Royal Regiment of Scotland. “

My Great Grandfather was originally Scots Guards then transferred to The Royal Scots ,a long time ago, a Pipe Major, he was in Sudan , The Boer War, and lost his life in France in 1916 aged 54. He was a crack shot and thought the Royal family Scottish dancing.

Was in the Royals for 6 years back in the 80s, there were some notorious bullies in the Regiment back in those days , Davey Henderson AKA "The Rock" loved nothing better than picking on the young boys in the Regiment and making their lives a misery , also David Pugh AKA "The Pugh" loved being violent with the young prisoners in the Guardroom and was always allowed to get away with it, and plenty more bullies as well. Also a lot of sectarianism and racism in this Regiment. Not so much like a family back then as they would have you believe.

Yes I can remember some of those people as well, back then there was a real racist and sectarian attitude in the Regiment, a real hatred of Catholics and black people as well as gay people, like any institution it had its share of bully boys as well, nowadays most of these characters would be in jail for their behaviour but back then in a funny way they were respected and feared in equal measure, what people forget is that a lot of these guys were not soldiers, they worked in the stores and were in HQ Company with all the malingerers and weirdos.
