The song is about the death of a girlfriend, the 'black cars' following the hearse. The sorrow of her sudden death.

Ah. Ending my evening with some old-school Stones. Paint it Black is one of my favorite Stones songs. I love the melody and the whole arrangement. The instrument Brian is playing is called a Sitar. Indian I believe. Thanks for the flashback!

The Rolling Stones are considered the bad boys of rock & roll. I grew up with their early stuff. My favorite era of The Rolling Stones is from the 60's British Invasion. I loved the "Flowers" album. They had a lot of great early hits such as "My Girl", "Lady Jane", "Out Of Time", "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Get Off Of My Cloud", "Ruby Tuesday", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Honky Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Gimme Shelter", "Tumbling Dice", "Brown Sugar" etc.

Sympathy For The Devil, Danelion, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Child Of The Moon, Sister Morphine, Bitch, Time Is On My Side, Paint It Black, Heart Of Stone, No Expectations, Salt Of The Earth, Love In Vain, Monkey Man, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow, 19'th Nervous Breakdown.......way to many great songs from this incredible band from that era.

This is definitely one of the Stones' masterpieces. It famously appeared in the movie 'Apocalypse Now', as did The Doors' masterpiece, 'The End.'

That guitar-like instrument is the sitar. The Beatles incorporated it into some of their music also. "Norwegian Wood", "Love You Too", "Within You / Without You", and "The Inner Light". Not surprising, given that they had become enamored with eastern mysticism.

The Composer Phillip Glass used a modified version of this music in his Movie Sound Tracks and Orchestral Compositions

The blonde guy on the sitar is Brian Jones, who was a multi-instrumentalist, and tragically drowned in 1969, three years after this song was released. The drummer Charlie Watts died last year aged 80, Bill Wyman the bassist, who is 85 now, decided to leave the band in 1993 after a massively successful sell out world tour. All the other members are still alive and have never stopped producing new albums over the past 6 decades.

Oh, my friends, I have to point you to a cover of Paint it Black by Eric Burdon and War from their album Black Man’s Burdon. Personal use only recommended. It’s a tad blue in it’s adaptation and delivery. Spirit is another great cut. I saw them in 1970 in Philly open the show before Rod Stewart and the Small Faces then Grand Funk. They put on a great show to hold their own.

I love the Stones and thanks for sharing a vid with Brian Jones! When he was clean he was a multi-instrumentalist and shaped the Stones' badly image. Unfortunately he died far too young - RIB Brian Jones. Still, his successor Mick Taylor was an asset to the Stones and I think those years were their most creative.
