This watch is definitely an underappreciated hidden gem among the luxury dive watch segment, and one that I'm happy to have discovered. The Glashutte Original SeaQ actually surprised me, and that doesn't often happen. It's a watch I wasn't expecting much from and was blown away by it after spending a little time with it!

Thanks for watching!

Agreed and I believe this is is biggest issue with this watch. I think it's a really great looking piece. More character than the sub in fact, but like you said, if you're going to spend $9,000 on a watch economics alone dictates that you have to go with the Rolex.

I have tried it on, and really love this model. If I was looking for a high end diver, this is what I would go for. I would, however, choose it on tropic style or fabric strap, which looks awesome. I have no time for oyster style bracelets with a polished center link. Also, I agree that the price is a bit steep, and at that price I would have liked a power reserve of at least 60 hours.

Thanks reviewing this interesting watch - you see very few Glashutte watches on KZread. I think your conclusion is sport on - nice size, well made, but iffy dial design and too expensive. Unfortunately I think that applies to a lot of GO watches. I want to like them, but there is always something about the design that doesn't work. And then there's the price. I think they need to work out if they are an Omega/Rolex or an AP/ AL&S.

  • @runrin_

do you know if there's an accuracy guarantee from the manufacturer? the size is perfect imo. the dial may not be perfect, but i think that when you go for big numbers you have to commit, and it would probably look off they were smaller. nice video!

Interesting watch Guy!, a good and different find to review ... but as others have already said, I think the sub is safe ;-) and so do you ;-) Prod quality is really great lately man, hard work is paying off! ... only thing im personally not a fan of is over dramatic music, or long intro music/logo titles ... and also the super cheezy over the top vids (voice overs etc) heehehe!. Dont get me wrong, I still really appreciate everything you do and still watch, like etc ... but the straight up vids that get right into it with Guy talking passionately about watches is the better content IMHO (understand you need to have fun and try new things though). True and since we are making a vid of a watch to compare with a Sub, since the diver watches are tools (regardless most are just desk divers) the 3135 (at least the movement of my last one) is very reliable, I know it and I prefer the steel case cover. Either way, wearing the watch I can't see the movement. On a dress watch, especially with complications, it's another story.

I first saw this piece on an upload about vintage inspired dive watches just a few days ago, so it's interesting that this watch has crossed my path 2 times in 2 days despite having no previous knowledge of its existence . If that is supposed to mean that the universe is telling me something, the universe is a mean bitch. I don't have $10K. I don't mean I don't have $10K to spend on a timepiece. I mean I don't have $10K! But I can love it from a far, and I do. That bracelet? As nice as it may be on the wrist, it is not what I would call 'vintage styled'. It reminds me of a classic muscle car that has been fitted with modern 21" wheels and liquorice strap tyres. The collar doesn't match the cuff. A 'beads of rice' or jubilee style is what it needs IMO. However, just brushing the centre links might bring it into line. It's a moot point however. This would go straight onto a period correct tropical if I owned it. You are right about that dial: its proportions are... odd. However, that's exactly why I love it so much. It's so unlike any other comparable piece. If I'm troubled by the dial, it's the date if anything. Anyway. Great review. Great diver. And just plain interesting. Glasshuttë never fails to intrigue.

I like the size and the clasp the way you can do micro-adjustments. The dial is not to my liking. If I had 9 to 12 thousand US dollars to spend on a watch, this would not be it. It's an interesting watch with a nice 1960s vibe. Mind you, it's not new for the Submariner to face strong competition. For example, I have found my Fifty-Fathoms Barakuda special edition (which is, at 40mm, much smaller than the regular FF) to be a complete a Sub-killer.

To me, one of the biggest strengths of the Sub is the clean, well balanced dial and overall design. This piece, for me, isn't clean or balanced in either the overall design or the dial. The font on the bezel and the dial don't match together at all, the hour markers are way too big and the size of the markers in combination with the font and the faux patina, make it look like three different designers worked on it and they didn't meet until the day of the release...

Huge Arabic numerals that make the dial crowded in an awkward way. I assume their size is to give a sporty tone, but the polished center bracelet links, not sure how to describe them, especially with the heavy brushed external links. Price, well I could justify a price up to 5 or 6k but 9k totally unacceptable. Despite the fact that I respect Glasutte, this is not a piece for that price. Of course, a high price may be an attempt to elevate the Brand's standard. The higher the price better chances to be included in the "big boys league". Although quite nice it's hardly a sub competitor, not as brand, design and value over time. In all honesty I'm not trying to fortify the Rolex trend but when it comes to 300 m WR (Rolex by make is COSC) I can't find any competitor. 40 mm case and under 13 mm thickness, there aren't any noticeable competitors. Perhaps homages and micro brands, but then again we'll be talking for far lower standard watches with multiple times lower price.
