The rank ladder is getting harder and in turn I feel I’m noticing more Smurfs in my games. A lot of my GC1 friends are stuck in C2 with me but ive never been GC, alot of then say (not every game but a good chunk of games) that they feel like theyre in GC lobbies from a couple seasons ago but in C2 now

I agree as well. I think the same can be said about other ranks too. For example, there are champs that are now diamond, diamond to plat, and mixed in with Smurfs. There are lots of moving factors like the ones Luke said and its rough out there!

Was pushing into C3 for a few seasons and somehow have now gotten stuck in D3/C1. Not that I have a lot of time to commit these days, but really hurts the ego after putting in so many hours over the years.

You're an example of what I think has happened. So you're all the way in D3 now. I went from C1 to D2. There's no way I could possibly beat you as a C3. But now, if I want to get to D3, I'll have to run into you or others at your level which will drop me down, or hard stuck me where I am to keep me there. And the same is happening to you. You're facing me, and then you're facing another hard stuck C3 or GC so you lose and get hard stuck in a never ending loop. The games against worse players screw up your play style. So when you play against a better player, your mechanics are out of wack for just long enough to lose the match. I think ranking needs another reset, and have each of your matches be against varying MMRs. So you'll end up playing against bronze all the way to SSL during ranking. Then it can refine the matches until it sits you with comparable players.

The consistency of your teammates and opponents is so all over the place it’s hard to have consistent matches because I have to play so different. Like, one match I’ll expect to win more 50s, be faster to the ball, etc or I’ll have a great teammate who can defend basic shots but then the next match get a teammate who almost constantly own goals and opponents who do flip resets and play way way faster

A couple seasons ago I was D3 and I can tell you FOR A FACT I am significantly better than I was... I've been grinding ones and free play and my consistency and mechanics have improved... yet I'm still struggling to stay in D3. The lobbies feel competitive too. I'm routinely doing things that my past self would consider "peak" and the opponents are just countering/saving it. It's insane. And it makes no sense. You'd think they'd do the opposite to make the player base feel rewarded and incentivize grinding but now I feel stuck even though I'm improving... this is how you get people to quit. Idiotic from the developer standpoint which no one is talking about.

u are wrong every1 else is going to get better judt look at a gc back in 2016 they played like plats or diamonds from 2024 and the only way to rank up is not getting better because every1 gets better but get better than the average person.

​@@fjogningNikolai Everyone improves, yes. But the thing is, the more they improve, the higher they get, and their place is took by less skilled ones than them, who suit that rank' skill level. If you're improving and not ranking up, it means not that you improve slower than anyone else, it means that skill level of your rank raises, because tops are improving, even if they're SSLs, and gc3 cant compete with them, despite improving, too. and gc2 can't compete with gc3, et cetera. the better higher rank end gets, the harder it is for you to get closer to said rank. Another reason to that might be newbie income absence. If no new players are taking place in bronze, considering everyone os getting better, getting to silver will be harder with every day, because you got no one with skill level of bronze on bronze anymore, and no one with skill level of silver in silver anymore, et cetera. What you say isn't the reason for being hard stuck in one rank. If ranks skill level stays same (which it isn't), to stay in same rank you don't have to improve. But people improve passively over time even if not training and spending time in free play, just from playing. So, if they don't rank up overtime, they make it harder for others in their rank to get higher, as they can't win someone who game says is same rank, but has higher level of skill, but can't rank up too, because higher rank' level of skill is higher than it have been too. Normally, each ranks level of skill doesn't change alot, because there are fresh players to take place in bronze and to be defeated by players better than them, become better themselves and defeat new fresh players, with cycle repeating, and the highest rank slowly increasing its numbers. The ranking system normal state description doesn't describes it properly anymore, because some of those important things needed to happen doesn't happen, and some of things needed to not happen, in their turn - happen.

In my opinion, it is very annoying when I win three matches in a row, but i don't rank up. But the moment I lose because my teammate lost connection or quit, I lose rank. It is very much bull most of the time when solo queuing. But I still love the game lol.

It’s killing the game. When you are never able to rank up because of Smurfs/matchmaking or whatever, it takes away your drive to play. You know you are getting better but are the same rank or eleven lower than a year ago.

As a d2/d3 in 2v2, i can confirm that there are multiple problems at ranking up. I always play against c1/c2 players who ranked down by accident or smurfs who are gc. By nearly playing always against champ players in diamond its not possible to rank up except you train like 200h for it

Ya diamond rank is all messed up right now. It's fine to play better players but I have a least a game a night were a guy with a champ tournament winner tag from one or two seasons ago is for some reason at D1 or playing with a buddy that is plat.

I think maybe as the game gets older. The majority of the people still playing are more skilled in general, because they have been playing since the beginning while others moved on. Less new players to be better than. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think you should have asked how the game feels for most of the playerbase, not for pros and high gc. Sure there is a problem for high level players, but atleast there isn't smurfing problems on higher levels. If you today start new account around 600mmr, that's around gold. So that means most of the playerbase is around gold to diamond and when psyonix pushes down more and more higher level players, we get more and more unbalanced games as we can get anything from people starting out to smurf accounts in our games. That drives more players to quit so this strategy doesn't really make any sense for this game.

I gave up on the whole ranking system. I just play the game casually every now and then I don’t even worry about it. I won’t even spend another dollar on the game pretty much gonna walk away from it soon.

I mean you can look at tutorial videos and see how much has changed. I remember when I saw “silver don’t know how to Ariel” but now if you can’t fly you’re at a disadvantage in silver. It’s still easy but the skills they had a year ago is different from now. When I first started I moved to gold without even knowing when to double jump. But I introduced a friend to the game and his opponent flicked the ball right over him. And the guy wasn’t even smurfing, I can tell by the rest of the gameplay.but it’s interesting to realize how much the skill ceiling has risen in just that rank. I HAD TO SWEAT TO HIT DIAMOND because I swear they go in the lab and practice resets all day and plats practice air dribbling. I can’t do either.

When they squash the higher rank players down, that means they're playing (and winning) against the lower ranks (duh - but stay with me here) that means the lower ranks are losing their games and getting pushed down further & it has a chain reaction down the line meaning that most people who don't grind like mad end up a lower rank by design.

I can relate to always being thrown into c2, I was like two games off of gc at the end of last season and then got put back into c2 after placements for the new season 😭

If there were AI bots that could provide a consistent opponent it would be easier to objectively measure your progression. If i get better and 'rank up' but the perceived ranks slide down too then it doesnt feel like im making any progress even if im actually improving.

Exactly. No matter how much we enjoy seeing personal progress, our rank is the 'trophy' we're all working towards. To have that altered so arbitrarily is a slap in the face and makes you feel like no progress has been made. Not the fantasy a game is supposed to provide.

Yes , I am so glad I am not the only one who has noticed this , I don't know if alot of people have left after that whole mess a while back , or if more people are smuffing or what I don't know , even casual is a complete mess .

After making 100's of videos saying the opposite of this and never looking at rank distribution now you make this video. After telling people they are just not good and smurfing in literally all of your videos even when you don't explicitly say you are (it's easy to look up your oppponents on the tracker ... you play diamonds in most videos and pretend your'e playing high champs) After telling diamonds they aren't getting smurfed on for two years and it's just a few simple tricks (every day) ... now you act like you uncovered something that everyone's been telling you for a year. I've been C2 for a while, but I don't play much ranked. I'm finally grinding to get my GC this season and I can tell just how good people are getting lately at this game. I've got so much better in the last few months and still gotta be on full focus to win a few matches in a row. A bad mechanical day or a toxic teammate can disrupt everything. It's also crazy how I'm d3 in 1v1 and keep playing 2v2 GCs 😂

This season and the previous have been insanely difficult to break into and maintain the champ ranks. Not even kidding faced multiple people with SSL tags at C1 and C2. I won all games against them suprisingly even tho they were very good. So it shows they arent on the way up, they are stuck here too. Really odd. Everyone is fighting to get to GC and it seems RL wants to keep it that way.

Started playing the game again a few months ago after not playing for a yr and I easily solo queued to c3 and could’ve grinded to gc1 but now I’m hardstuck low c2

I havent played in recent months but whenever i play i get to around C2-C3 before i stop playing. The annoying part is that whenever i come back i have to start again in Diamond and i keep running into people with GC titles the second i enter C1. Not all of them feel like actual GCs. I would really just like to know what i am playing. Sometimes the oponents feel like plats, sometimes like champs and sometimes like high GC.

The most common reason why its harder is that ttheres no new players and the ones in each rank are hard stock so they may have. Higher ranked skills but since they been hard stock for so long they dont move up

took a few month break was d3. came back and have champs in my plat lobbies. currently at d1

Jorhdys with mentioning getting placed C2 every season no matter the rank is so painfully true. Nevermind how brutal C2 as a rank is, it's likely one of the worst ranks in the game. C1 is bad enough to be predictable, C3 is good enough to be predictable, C2 is unpredictable completely. You usually go against someone who can't hit the ball half the time, and then they hit a flip reset double tap on you out of nowhere. Painfully frustrating and it makes RL not fun to grind anymore.

I hit GC in S10 and stopped playing after getting my GC rewards. I came back a couple weeks ago and am maintaining C2 I've talked to other GC titles I'd find and they are too just getting back in. I've noticed a larger influx of smurfs and people on alts whom don't take the game serious and are more prone to throwing. Finding C2 a lot more annoying than it was when I was peaking back then.

Can confirm, I finished C2 last season, and I'm hard stuck D3. I don't play as much, but my mechanics are far better than they were.

Ranked 3s is a waste of time for pro players. If they want to play actual competition they have to scrim other pro teams or bubble players. 1v1 and 2v2 are popular for pros because they use it as a mechanics training simulator basically.

The queue times for 3s are much longer at the higher ranks than 2s, and they definitely do 3v3 pro scrims.

Ranked 3s against randoms would actually screw with their minds. You don't want to get used to bad habbits because of opponents that are way lower than you. Thats the reason why they stay in their RLCS bubble and only scrim against other pros and pro teams for 3v3 (I think jack explained this once in a video)

If your diamond in 2v2 then you are not a diamond. 1v1 is the only playlist where its just you and the opponent. Thus its the only playlist where you are your actual rank without doubt. In 2v2 and in 3v3 you can get carried most of your games and rank up but that isnt a possibility in 1v1s.

All right. This is good to consider. I was starting to be convinced that this game had been tilted against me in matchmaking because I refuse to make any in game purchases. Which is still a possibility but whatever, I'm just playing for fun. But yeah, if players in higher rank are getting knocked down and I win enough placement matches to move up, I'm likely to run into these said players and get my ass whooped. I actually like playing against these players, it helps me get better at the game, but I just get so annoyed when I'm trying to have a good game and I'm matched with someone who is clearly lower ranked than ME and can't keep up with the game. It's not their fault, its just been how this game matches players against each other. I make mistakes as well, I'm not perfect in game, but there just seems to be an overall imbalance of how this game divides up the teams and I have absolutely no chance if the guy on my team can't keep up... which again is not their fault.

I've only went up in 2v2 and 3v3 but I know what my problem was so I think it's because I'm just getting way better

After peaking in ssl in 1s, ranked is just impossible now. I have fully given up on comp and now am learning to freestyle.

Apple said it perfectly! There’s so many players I see that can hit the nastiest flip resets or air dribbles here and there but can’t clear the ball hard or take free open shots on net… players are learning to play TOO fast before they’re ready

The rank reset really messed up the game. I was gc1 almost gc2 and now barely getting to c3 each season.

It's because casual players who came in during free to play have fallen off. And there's no RLCS right now, so it's mostly serious fans still playing, and that community just keeps getting better.

I mean it makes sense that they try suppressing the rankup every season otherwise the pros will create the need for a new rank again by goi g towards 3k mmr in a short time. Last season i had to start from d3 after finishing c2 before that i had to start in d2 its pretty funny now i sit in c3 after some seasons again in a grind but struggle to go to gc im not mad as i know i will get it at some point i just have to get even vetter

Yeah this makes a lot of sense. I play casual mostly early season because it's just not fun playing against people who should be much higher in rank, especially when they're toxic. but then you go up against people who just aren't trying and it's such a frustrating thing, because they end up tilted, I feel bad because I'm not trying to win win, I'm just trying to score and not get scored on, and no one is having a good time 😂 maybe everyone should stop caring so much about ranking up, and just enjoy the game, and then let me rank up instead!

Honestly ranked has been easier for me but I only play at specific times and even different regions went from d2 to c3 in ones session of gameplay but now i just feel like im stuck here

As a diamond/champ, the beginning of the season always seems to be where I get my biggest jump forward in mmr. Maybe bc I play my placements carefully and win most of them, but maybe this has changed the past few seasons.

I dont have any problems with 3s really. But 2s is crazy different this season. The fact that i'm high gc1 in 3s, but low c3 in 2s is kinda crazy

Dota has a similar problem, without new players, and a hardcore fan base, if you're getting better, everyone else is getting better too, so you can't just get better and rank up, you have to be getting better at a faster pace than everyone else too

I got a pretty bad run compared to my usual teammates and went down to plat in twos. Every season it’s been reranking me into mid plst despite my placements being at Diamond or Champ level. I guess I’m not the only one, because I’m trying to grind out MMR solo queuing. Should be easy right? Every OCE plat lobby is filled with people that have directional air roll, some have consistent flip resets. It’s fun, I guess, but it feels stupid that I have the same challenge playing at plat level than I do playing in diamond or even champ lobbies.

a) easy answer, people joining every day and people leaving the game meaning there's more 'dead' accounts below gc and also people just joining will not be in gc, making the percentage lower, b) not many people are pushing ranked anymore because they dont see the point so it means theyre just playing either cas or extra modes meaning more 'dead' accounts, therefore making the percentage drop even greater

The "leaving it for a couple of weeks." Seems to be plan everybody I play with is doing so. it's not going help. It will just delay the onslaught 😅,although the training packs is defo helping, I've been working my ass off to get the plat rewards. And sometimes jump in with my plat and diamond friends. Seems we are coming up against Rocket League samaria, ninja, special forces elite. It's like daaayum 😅

Yes, its the fastes way to master something. Its ok to work on other things a little of time but most of the time should be worked on one mechanic then work on another mechanic once you master one
