Connection stability is the important thing NOT connection speed. Wifi is easily affected by outside interference like microwaves/vacuums/lots of wifi networks. Ethernet is not. You can actually easily test to see the difference either by doing a jitter test (google it) or compare the consistency of pinging your router over a longer time (like a minute).

Your internet speed has very little to do with you lagging in games. The stability of your connection matters MUCH more. That's the reason for the lag issues mostly going away when you switched to a wired connection. With that 400Mbps you could be playing RL and be streaming a 4k movie and never have lag. But if your wifi connection is unstable, you're lagging all over the place. So yes, wiring your computer/console into your router may fix a lot of lag issues, but it's not because the speed is faster.

Its all about latency, jitter, and your worst nightmare for lag, bufferbloat. If your using wifi on pc, I highly recommend downloading WLAN optimizer. It got rid of the annoying 50+ms latency spikes to my gateway when on wifi, I have consistent

tots. stability and ping are what matter. not download speed. Your client is transmitting text files basically. Its not a lot of data.

Exactly ! Download and Upload speed do not affect your Lag a lot Lag comes From unstable/bad connections for Example: Wifi, Bad Cables in your House (not talking about LAN Cable) i talk about the Cable that are in the Walls. Earth Cables, the Cables from your Provider that would go into your Home probably Basement, also their Ports, and much more can be the Reason. Your Ping is highly affected by your Distance to the Servers. Thats why in a 1v1 Pro match "Yanxxnz vs Rw9" one would have a bad Ping

The number you see below fps is NOT your input latency, it is your frame time, basically the inverse of of fps, how long it takes your pc to render the next frame. Input lag is the time between the physical button being pressed and the action displaying on your monitor. Frame time is part of input latency but there are many other parts that add to it.

@CaitofFate many things can effect Inputlag, use your controller wired so it has higher polling, a low response monitor / screen and having as much fps as possible without affecting visibility

You should run the game at 360fps if you are running a high refresh rate monitor, say 144hz minimum because there is a noticeable dofference between that and the framerate of your monitors refresh rate

Whatever refresh rate your monitor sits at is the cap. If you overload that cap and notice and improvement you should probably just turn on vsync

Another thing: If you can, use a wired controller. It’s my opinion that Bluetooth adds a few ms of latency compared to wired. It may not be that much but I believe it’s enough to matter, especially if you have an older computer.

Hardest mechanic in game: Open net

I went from 60hz to 144hz monitor couple years ago and yes, that is a massive upgrade, 60hz feels clunky and stuttery now, can never go back

Wired is the only way to go. Wireless is half duplex, so it can either send or receive but can’t do both at the same time. Wired is full duplex, so your computer can send or receive simultaneously. That’s why it doubled your speed test.

your double jumps is probably a bad habit. your backflip probaby happens when you try to fast aerial? some Possible Reasons: Bad Habit (Skillissue) => Practice more (put more focus on pressing your second jump after your stick is in neutral position) Too precise Controller Settings => Experiment with controller Settings => Dodge Deadzone: => try different Numbers Slight Controller Drift => Buy new Controller

Your internet speed doesn't make any difference to your ping. You can have fast connection or slow connection, but only what matters is how stable it is. You can prove this if you use really fast wifi connection or "slow" optical fibre connection and see which one gives you less lag spikes.

megabits per second doesn't matter when playing the game, what matters is the latency. The problem with wifi is that the latency jumps sporadically, and it's often unpredictable. But yeah, never game on wifi if you care about reaction time.

So..... Speed isn't the key, or even the stat you want to look at, to why switching from wifi to wired helped.. It is ENTIRELY latency... The bandwidth that rocket league requires is tiny, the latency range though is more important....
