Not this season but will come close. SMU, Houston, UCF, Memphis, Boise State, SDSU, Fresno State, UTSA, and Toledo all look super solid and have the schedules in non conference play and conference play where one of them will get the nod. Now unless one of them makes CFP 4-team selection playoffs; then that opens the door for another G5 school to get a NY6 bowl slot, assuming that the committee does something right for once. We all know that won’t happen. The committee will choose an 8-4 SEC or Big10 college that has no business in a top tier bowl, let alone a NY6 bowl and get clobbered by a Big12 or ACC college and then make excuses to defend that 8-4 college of whichever conference got the nod over a more deserving non power conference’s champion at 11-2 or 12-1 or bigger embarrassment a 13-0 school not getting a top bowl selection.

The Beach Chickens will finish somewhere between 3rd and 6th in the stacked 7 team Sun Belt East. App or Marshall will win it. Then CCU, Ga State, ODU, and JMU all separated by a few funny bounces, and the once great Statesboro Gnats coming in last.

I was a Student Equipment manager there last season, such an amazing staff and program that coach Chadwell has created there. Being there on the sideline when we won our first ever bowl game in the programs history was such an amazing moment that I’ll never forget. Can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish next!

Hey Luke, I would love to talk more with you about Coach Chadwell's program vision and the inside on how he created that atmosphere

I love Coastal being a good team. Along with the new additions to the Sun Belt this coming season it is easily my favorite G5 conference. Hell, I like watching it more than the Pac 12 and the ACC usually.

I'm an alumni from there. Love this school we have a bright future ahead of us for this program

I’m from Conway and this college is insanely good. Coach Chadwell and McCall work very well and the defense is also very well.

Do the rise, fall, rise again, fall again, and now rise again of Marshall university football from the 19080s to now. Guys like Chad Pennington, Randy Moss, Byron Leftwich, and Raheem Cato were apart of those successful years!!

@@michaelwall3393 It's ALL about the TV market. Rice is in Houston & UNCC is in Charlotte, two major media centers, contrast that with Hattiesburg, Mississippi & ANYWHERE in West Virginia! It's true that Marshall & USM are better football teams, but that doesn't bring the 💰 that media exposure does

@@ekibirigeable I don’t dispute or disagree with you at all. My points are valid and stands though. Did you know that Huntington, West Virginia unlike Morgan Town, West Virginia is in the top 70 media markets according to Nielsen national ratings and two other media market measurements. Also unlike Morgan Town, Huntington has a large international air port, and Marshall University has better academics than West Virginia university and UNCC but not Rice obviously. Also Southern Miss is Tier1, Carnegie 1, R1 status and has the best academics in Mississippi; and though not AAU, the big push back by Tulane who is AAU was not just because both schools tend to target the same athletic students but also academic students to be perused. I agree that Houston and Charlotte are better media markets. But USM and MU are better in just about every single sport and not just football and have every single sport as opposed to Rice and UNCC. I also think UAB would always be available and should of consider someone else because once Clark steps down, how well will they do. We are about to see if Bill Clark was more like former Memphis University HC Tommy West in building and creating and sustaining a winning culture and program or is it going to be more like New Mexico post Rocky Long before getting right again and that is if New Mexico has figured out what works best football wise. It was clear that the networks were trying to block the AAC from making massive additions to maintain their stance as the best G5 or P6 narrative than destroying the Big12. Is the AAC still the best non power conference? Possibly???? I know FAU, UTSA, & UNT are heaven and hellbent to prove that they were the right adds. UAB could be. But the other two need to show something in football this fall and in all other sports too! UAB needs to be good and stable and not fall off and in other sports be solid as well.

​​@@ekibirigeableMedia exposure huh. The Pac 12 had 2 teams in LA. 2 teams in the San Francisco Bay Area. A team in Seattle. A team in Phoenix and the Nike flagship school Oregon. As of August 2023 the Pac 12 no longer exists

I live in Conway…they are definitely a bright spot in the community and in this county!!

One of the things that will make the new Sun Belt East such a great collection of passionate rivals (and ultimately the best G5 division) is clear in this video. Even before the division takes full shape this fall, Coastal, App State, JMU, ODU, Ga Southern, Ga State, and Marshall all have decades of shared history. Coastal has spent total of 4 years sharing a conference with only 3 of the other future SBC East schools, and yet every school but Marshall was mentioned here in playing a pivotal or historic game against the Beach Chickens. A series of one of these for each of the new SBC East would be great - App and Marshall particularly,

To this day I cannot hear the name Randy Smith or Sonny Randle and not think of the great App State and Marshall games on SportSouth when both teams were ferocious then D1AA Southern Conference rivals.🤔🎤🏈🏀📺B.W.

I been to coastal carolina in 2009 to 2011, loved every bit of it, made some great friends

I live less than 20 minutes away from the school and I've loved being able to watch my local school become a real contending team despite all the odds. Can't wait for what the future holds

Graduated from CCU in 2014. Was at the win vs Kansas last year. Excited to keep watching this program improve and I'm so proud of them! Go Chants!

As a BYU fan, that loss in 2020 was gut-wrenching and kept us out of the NY6. But it has still been fun seeing Coastal’s meteoric rise. I love an underdog story. When BYU scheduled that last minute game in 2020, Coastal agreed to return the favor and come to Provo sometime in the future. Of course, that was before BYU’s invitation to the Big 12. BYU has had to cancel a bunch of games to make room for their future conference schedule but hopefully they make the rematch with Coastal happen. Mormons vs Mullets Vol. 2!

Would love to see it happen, but with BYU officially joining the P5, I don't know if we'll see it happen for a long time.

Thank you for this video! This brings back a ton of nostalgia with my time with and against the Chants First collegiate football game and playoff football game as a student: CCU vs. App State (I was an App State Student) Taught at CCU as a Lecturer from 2010-2013 and had plenty of football players as students Went on to NDSU for my PhD and went to both CCU playoff games, seeing many of my former students who were players and coaching assistants Now I am back teaching at Appalachian State as a professor and make every opportunity to see the Chants when they come to Boone, and sometimes I'll drive down to Conway to see them both play It's a great program and a very underrated university. It's beautiful and I had a ton of wonderful, hardworking students.

This video made me a Costal fan, I'm honestly a little disenfranchised with the death of pageantry in the P5, so I started looking for a group 5 team to scratch the itch. Then I discovered how low key deep the Sun Belt is, so I settled on that conference, then I became a CCU fan

Feel like a video on Maryland could be cool. They were always a top dog in the ACC during the 70s and 80s then fell off for a bit and came back in the early 2000s having 3 straight 10 win seasons then remained solid throughout the 00s and eventually were part of the group to ignite a big conference realignment cycle and have been mediocre-bad even with a ton of good talent ever since

You have to do Appalachian State after doing Coastal… it’s the newest rivalry in college football… only difference is App State has more history….

I film for a team in the sun belt and we played there last season. They make some great plays.

I might get better at football if I go to this school, but I want to go to a school on the west coast, because it’s closer to family 😢

Incidentally for those who might think that by being Pro NDSU on here I'm hating on Coastal Carolina: I'm impressed by their immediate Gridiron success picking up after Coach Russ Bergman and Coach Cliff Ellis in "March Madness" a number of years ago. To say nothing of their achievement on The Baseball Diamond. Then there's quite possibly the alltime Name Combination in "Heiligh Likely!" Abbott and Costello ought to be jealous that they never thought of that. That these two young men turned out to be great Ballplayers (with one NFL Drafted in April) is a dividend indeed. And it's obvious that Coach Chadwell is putting the framework together for something special up in Conway, South Carolina. They'll be fun to watch play for awhile. I am loving watching teams like CC , it is so refreshing watching teams like this beat teams they technically shouldn't, hopefully we get more success from CC and other non top tier year after year teams we see on tv.

So today is dec 3 and CCU plays Troy in the SUN BELT Championship I wish them good luck CCU

They are an extremely good program. I love the rivalry we (Liberty) have with them. I truly wish we could have gotten an invite to the Sun Belt. The regional rivalries now with ODU, JMU, Marshall and of course Appy are fantastic. Maybe one day.

Eventually they'll probably receive one from The Mid America Conference transferring Their Basketball Programs from The Missouri Valley Conference as well. Or they could stay in The MVC as most if not all of that Conference transfers to FBS.🤔🎤🏈🏀B.W.

But they can only other teams from those 4 conferences. Competition would better, tv money would be massive and they could kick funding to the lower levels

I remember keeping an eye on the Chanticleers during NDSU's insane title runs of last decade, they were just as fun to follow for their insane offense as NDSU's complete dominance. Sadly there would always be a team to trip them up compared to NDSU's several undefeated years. I'm glad they're in the FBS now, a team like them, James Madison, Jacksonville state, they all make more sense being in the FBS vs Umass, New Mexico State, and sadly lately UConn. I hope NMSU and UConn get it together given they have big stadiums to fill, but UMass to me never made sense jumping to the FBS. I also still hope 1 day for NDSU to make the jump because they have made the FCS their bitch if you pardon my French.

The difficulty of NDSU making it to the FBS is finding a conference that will take them. Unlike the southeastern part of the country, there are not many options in the Northern Plains, if any. While the Big 10 and Big 12 are in their region, they are P5 conferences and in no way will ever invite a FCS school, especially the Big 10 where their education standards are suppose to be high (then again, they let Nebraska in). The next closest conferences are from the G5 - Mountain West and MAC. NDSU would do great in either conference, but neither want the Bison at this point.

Would you accept this then? A Brand New Northern Plains G5 style Superconference. All Four Dakota Schools, Both D1FBS Idahos, Both Montanas, Colorado State, Utah State, and Wyoming. Boise, San Diego State, Air Force all three would either go Indy or attempt to secure an invitation from The Pac12 to replace Arizona State, Arizona, and Colorado who join a new look variation on The Big 12. Just woolgathering. And someone somewhere is bound to have a better idea than mine.🤔😂🏈B.W.

@@madbrowniac7871 It would be an ideal situation to move up with all the Dakota, Montana and Idaho schools. However, money is the big factor along with the state politics. I can't speak for the Montana, Idaho and South Dakota schools, but the ND politicians who either attended UND or are fans of the school, especially in regards to the hockey team, have made NDSU's plans to grow (academically and athletic) difficult over the years. States with small populations, regardless of land size, and have more than one DI school are at a disadvantage when it comes to funding. I believe this is why we haven't seen the Montana and Dakota schools move up. Idaho made the attempt and failed, and I doubt Idaho State could do better as their facilities lack compared to their state rival. With that said, I do believe NDSU has a plan that has been put together over the past decade to move up. They are just waiting for the right time to execute the plan. Hopefully when they do, they succeed and end up at bowl games that aren't in Frisco, TX. Nothing against the city or area, but after playing all the FCS Championship Games there the past decade, a change of scenery would be nice.

I used to party with the Sig Ep guys at Coastal. They've always had a special place in my heart from that trashy party beach town. They earned a natty in baseball and are now busting heads in D1 football.

I love Coastal Carolina but they're a bit overrated. The mountain west is way more stacked then the sunbelt. The mountain west runner up beat the PAC 12 champs. My team is Fresno State and there is such a bias against west coast teams let alone a g5 one. Fresno State goes to Oregon loses by 7, then Oregon goes to the horse shoe and beats Ohio State. UCLA beats LSU and then Fresno State goes to the Rose Bowl and beats UCLA, yet we were ranked behind UCLA and barely in the top 25. It makes no sense but I'm happy for any g5 team that does good and I got some pleasure seeing Fresno State beat Coastal Carolina in basketball.

Idk how NIL will change this young program's prospects. Do they have the war chest/boosters to recruit and retain talent? 👀 🤔

And for comparison, Coastal's Brooks Stadium only seats about 1/4 of what you'd find at South Carolina which is on the smaller end of SEC stadiums

I don't see any FCS championships going to Chanticleers in the last 12 years, or ever. They have a good program, but their not in the same class as NDSU. They were close, but close doesn't do anything in football. Take Sam Houston State, they won the 2020 National Championship on a short season. Sportswriters and the polls put them at #1 all of last year. Then they meet Montana State, and San Houston got handed a ass kicking. Then what does NDSU do to Montana State. A total butt kick. The FCS hasn't seen a team with the likes of NDSU in it's history. I remember when people were talking after NDSU had won their 3rd straight National Championship in a row! That was just the beginning! It's to bad NDSu doesn't get a offer to move up. Very few team in the upper dividsion will schedule NDSU, for many reason. Biggest is they don't want to get beat and have that mark on their schedule if they are hoping for a shot at a National Championship or maybe a big bowl game. Go Bison!

Dale, what does this video have to do with NDSU? Nobody is questioning the success of NDSU. Coastal was a good FCS school there is no question about that, however the fact that the chants were able to find success in FBS so quickly is really impressive.

No one said CCU was a better FCS team lol. We got knocked out of the playoffs by NDSU back to back years. Difference is just money and location. NDSU would need to build an entire new stadium, because the FargoDome just isn’t big enough to sustain growth into an FBS power. They also aren’t a great geographic fit into any conference. And if they were to join the AAC or the MWC, then that’s also a ton of money on travel (Don’t forget that it’s not just football either, but even the smaller sports like tennis or softball that will be traveling 1,000s of miles each week just to play a conference match). That’s money they likely don’t have or they don’t think it’s worth it. Why move up when you can dominate the FCS year in and year out? They still get tons of exposure winning nattys every year. The Missouri Valley is also a much better fit for them geographically.

NDSU wouldn't be on their unprecedented run if App, Marshall, Ga Southern, Boise State, UCF, WKU, and the rest of the G5 were still banging around FCS. And now with JMU, SHSU, and Jax St on their way to the FBS, the continued Bison success will be less of an impressive feat. The winners of nearly one third of all I-AA/FCS national titles since the subdivision was created will be playing in the Sun Belt East in 2022.
