The Rise of Tulane Football | The Greatest Turnaround in College Football History

Спорт

Building something special in the College Football world takes time. It’s very rare that a new Head Coach can step into a role and completely change a program overnight, and oftentimes, it takes years to even see progress in the win column. So when Willie Fritz took the job at Tulane, he understood that this project would take time. After not playing in a major bowl game in over 80 years, Tulane made program history in an unlikely way. After winning 2 games in 2021, the Green Wave finished the 2022 season with 12 wins and a Cotton Bowl victory, completing the greatest turnaround in College Football History. And in today’s video, we’ll be looking at the 80 year rebuild that brought Tulane its best ever season. This is the Rise of Tulane Football.

Fast fact: Tulane was former founding member of SEC but left because they felt like they were not good enough for the conference. Tulane is that humble long distance relative of the SEC that just want to be acknowledge via hard-work than being egoistical.

The reason they no longer felt good enough is because they had deemphasized athletics and no longer were bringing in the same athletes. Had they stayed committed they could have continued to compete at a high level.

The greatest turnaround in CFB history belongs to K-State. Tulane may have had the greatest single-season turnaround though

A lot of overlooked Louisiana talent play at Tulane and they just didn’t have a coach to turn the program around…I believe now Tulane has found that coach. Tulane was once a very strong Football, Baseball and Basketball school. I’m happy to see them getting a shine again in sports. Ride Dat Wave 🌊🔥🔥🔥

I think Tulane might be able to repeat a 10+ win season at least, though I am concerned a bit about their defense losing all 5 of their highest tacklers, they have plenty of other depth pieces who could step up, and their stars are back with a new OC’s who’s comfortable with the program Very interesting insight on their history too and why they had that long valley

Man thinking on struggling programs, if DePaul basketball ever makes a turnaround it’s gonna be just as massive if not more so. 20 years since last NCAA tourney, 15+ since last NIT, and consistently last in the Big East. They are a Netflix documentary in the waiting and a sleeping giant.

Yeah, I'm from Philly, where we have Villanova and the rest of the big 5, we got a lot of D1 Teams with great history of basketball. However, seeing DePaul growing up, especially when they were good when I was kid starting to watch sports. I feel sorry for DePaul. I hope they make a run back to the Tourny one day.

With Fritz gone, I'm very curious to see how we'll do this year. But Jon Sumrall seems like a great coach and we did AMAZING in the transfer portal. I'm so excited to attend the games this year.

They've had one good year. UTSA has had 3 in a row, and the media is ranking Tulane 10 spots ahead of Runners in preseason polls. Watch the AAC this year. There will not be a huge gap between these teams.

They'd be Vanderbilt but in New Orleans. Over the past 30 years they've been terrible at football (except a few seasons), while making the post season (regional play) 20 times with 10 super regional appearances, and 2 trips to the World Series, in baseball and have been ok in basketball. There was a time from 1992 to 2005 when they administration was actively voting on weather or not to get rid of football last vote taken in 2005 winning by a 5 to 4 margin to keep the team.

@@jordanjones4587 You really don't understand how dire K-State's situation was, do you? I'll make it short and sweet. If Snyder didn't rebuild the football program at K-State, there would not have been a K-State football program for Tulane to beat in 2022. K-State was THAT bad before Snyder came along. If Snyder had failed, KSU would've either dropped a division or just dropped football entirely.

It also seemed at the time that up until 2015 the admin hated sports in general and would actively campaign and go out of there way to destroy athletics. Luckily the new people in charge have put an infuses on athletics and yes its taken 8 years but success doesn't usually happen over night.
