This depends multiple reports share this videos version. Other sources report the Princess was sent by King to civilize what were considered the very backward and hideous people the Mexicas. What stays the same in every historical account is the Princess was mutilated and the high priest went to the king wearing the Princesses skin and the King ordered all Mexicas to be wiped out. Mexicans still to this day celebrate wearing people’s bones and flesh. It’s called Day of the Dead. Cortez when he took offense to Aztec religious ceremonies just like the King this is when Cortez has to flee what is today Mexico City but all the surrounding people and cities and nations before Cortez landed and after tried to warn him of the Mexicas. We are taught incorrectly in schools that a big bad Spanish army swarmed the poor Aztec people as propaganda. Well Cortez was fighting an illegal war what they do not tell you is that Cortez had a very small force with advanced weaponry. It was the surrounding nations that made it so Cortez won the war. Everyone wanted to get rid of the Mexicas, everyone. To this day the Mexican people are not much different and still celebrate backwards traditions like wearing people’s skulls and brag that LA RAZA (Which means, The Race) will control the world and recreate Azlan.

Once or twice you say that you really don't know and that is the truest statement you've made. Because you know that ALL the information you studied and present here was that which was allowed to be written by the imprimatur a declaration authorizing publication by the church, in this case, you are in fact presenting unsustainable and biased information. Aztek if you know more correct info why don’t you publish a correct video based on “native” knowledge? Without doing that you’re really doing a disservice to yourself and the knowledge you have because merely complaining about disinformation does nothing. If, however, you make a correct film people would watch that and more people would learn what you’re trying to teach rather than just reading some comment that’s criticizing.

Like a fictional thing loosely based on history? I'd suspect that the lack of surviving Aztec history might have something to do with it. Like not enough to base original stories on when most of what we know is covered here. I've heard most of this before actually in another video about the Aztec, so similarly original stories would also derive from the same thing and ultimately be very similar. I mean I would also be a little bit concerned about people not having a good idea about what the Aztec were like including yourself. So it would almost definitely lead to claims that it's a misrepresentation of the Aztecs when there's not a shared idea that can be backed up like with versions of medieval European history where the roles of royalty, nobles, priests, knights, merchants, commoners and so on are all pretty well defined. Your comment might not have been made with such a thorough investigation into the idea in mind but I'm pretty sure there actually are reasons for it because almost every other noteworthy civilization has a disproportionate number of stories about it compared to them. So I'm certain there would be more if people were inspired by information about the source, which is unfortunately lacking. I mean there's not much about other poorly documented civilizations either like the sumerians so I guess that supports my reasoning.

Of course they did: from 1492 when the Spaniards arrived for the first time to the continent, to 1519 when Cortés arrived to the shores of Veracruz, México, 27 years had passed. In that time a lot of contacts and indirect news about their prescence had spread. Caribes and taínos, the first indigenous people who saw the Spaniards, used to travel on canoes throughout all the Caribbean sea, spreading the news. There is some evidence that Maya merchants knew Cuba and had some commerce of goods with Taínos (Cuba was conquered by Spaniards in 1509). In 1511 a shipwreck by a storm during an exploration to Florida threw 11 spaniard survivors to the Yucatán shores. Almost all got killed by the Maya, but two of them survived to be assimilated into the Maya society and learn their language. One of them even would die years later fighting against the Spaniards on the side of the Mayas. In 1517 and 1518 the expeditions of Hernández de Córdova and Grijalva had made contact with mayas and totonacs in the shores of Yucatán peninsula and the Gulf of México. So, by the time of Cortés arrival, Motecuhzoma had plenty of news about the prescence of strangers since years before.

Loving it! Did a paper in school about the Aztecs and was always fascinated by the mesoamerican civilizations. Great, neutral and complete work. Thank you!

They did the Tlaxcala dirty-the real champs. Always been a history buff but neglected learning much about Mesoamerica. This is actually pretty interesting. It’s a shame there aren’t more surviving primary sources, because there is probably so much more intrigue we don’t even know about. Anyway, excellent video.
