The Rhetoric of Young Dumb Honey Bun
Ойын-сауық
This is a video that I never saw myself making until very recently. It is not that often that I am making a video on someone that I once religiously watched. Sara has recently rebranded to YDHB and with that came low effort content on Amberlynn and Chantal and right wing pipeline 'societal commentary'. What she means by this content, which we will get into, is being able to state opinion as fact with no basis and have as little pushback as possible.

Yep, and most states don’t even formally allow you to identify as a clinical psychologist i.e., it is against ethical standards to name yourself that without a doctoral degree + thousands of hours of clinical training usually through an accredited body + passing the licensing exam and fulfilling any requirements for jurisprudence testing pertinent to that state’s laws. So yeah, it’s pure BS when people claim they are “psychologists” with a bachelor’s or even master’s degrees.
You predicted it perfectly. 3 months later we get a "Why I'm leaving the left" video from her. Disappointing but not surprising. Good job calling her out months ago
I'm shocked you didn't know YDHB totally lied about medical school. She didn't go at all. She admitted it after one of her mods accidentally let the cat out of the bag. She started to even pick at things for Amber that was true in my life which just made me feel like sh*t and she complained about EVERYTHING! Even things that were obviously untrue in ALR videos. Recently me and another commenter left a comment on one of her videos a few weeks ago when she stated in a video that trigger warnings shouldn’t be a thing because the world doesn’t have them. Me and someone else tried explaining why it’s necessary in literature and videos considering it can be really traumatic for someone to read or watch something graphic or triggering and she pretty much replied to us saying she still didn’t think it made sense and people have to live through life without being so sensitive to things because you never know if you may experience that trigger outside in the real world. what has always boggled my mind about ydhb is how she goes out of her way to insert brags about her education in psychology only to so blatantly devalue psychology ethics for the sake of her content. she has constantly talked about how she feels like she has had some personal revelation that has allowed her to see beyond her narrow "mean girl" world view and has gratuitously patted herself on the back for no longer contributing to how she used to be so "nasty and mean" to others-- when in actuality, it would appear it was less of the immature phase that she has painted it as and more so a component of her content. edit: this isn't exactly a commentary on her rhetoric but rather how i personally perceive her personality in videos. so apologies that this isn't really pertinent to the conversation. just an observation!

I often think about the live stream where YDHB says that evolutionary theories ring true and that 'men are biologically motivated to chase women for sex and women are biologically motivated to be picky when choosing a partner because they can only produce one offspring with one man at a time while men can produce several children with multiple women at any one time' and in doing so managed to shame women for having more than one sexual partner and praise men for doing the same. not only this, but also promoted the dangerous evolutionary narrative that men are programmed to take sex from women while it is the woman's role to monitor and police the sexual behaviours of both sexes. makes me shudder to think of how this might have impacted her young primarily female audience and how that might have influenced their behaviours going forward. edit: basically the first thing that you are taught in second and third year undergraduate psychology is that these theories have been debunked by feminist scholars and that they are inherently sexist in their rhetoric. I didn't even do core psychology as an undergraduate, just the basics of it through criminology, and I know that these theories have been debunked and are basically redundant in contemporary academic and public discourse. maybe she never went to class past her first year?

Yeah...the transphobia was the final straw for me. Came out that it was an "anti-woke prank" and she just says "no it wasnt, i dont believe that' with...what evidence?? Because a trans-fetish predator conspiracy is more believable to her...? I was already leaning away from Sara and her community, her perspective and bragging, and especially in livestreams, her community doing the same en mass had started to make me feel really bad about myself (not intentional and no one's fault, but as someone so disabled I have dropped out of school twice, can't hold a job, and have very few people in my social circle, an entire stream of people superchatting to platform their social/academic/career achievements felt super isolating) I was side-eyeing her for a while, with some of the "these people identify this way and you HAVE to accept it" rhetoric and videos more mean-spirited about fat-acceptance, but this is when it ended up being impossible to ignore. It's incredibly disappointing...

Talks about how women are over sexualized, continues to the sexualize the person that is the subject of the discussion. She’s talking in circles. That always gives me the impression that 1. they don’t understand what they are saying, where they’re usually just parroting shock-value talking points; or 2. I recently saw someone make the argument that these right-wing/conservative transphobic arguments about propriety and normalcy aren't about the metaphysics of what a woman actually is, it's about having control of what is considered "normal". 31:30 The way she refers to cis women as "**women**" smacks of transphobia to me
The final straw for me was the time ALR expressed that she might be looking into an ADHD assessment. Personally, I'm of the opinion that ALR seems to display certain patterns of symptoms that wouldn't be out of place for an AFAB person with ADHD, and I don't really mind if ppl disagree with me because it's something none of us are ever going to know for sure. But the thing that really disgusted me was when I watched YDHB's reaction, and she completely dismissed the possibility of something like that based mainly on "she's just looking for an excuse/she's just lazy and wants an appetite suppressant/she's taken all of this off the internet and it's 100% garbage" or something along those lines. I can't remember exactly what she said because I have ADHD myself and that means I live with a goldfish brain, but I do remember being incredibly angry and upset because it was straight ableism from someone who claims to be educated and empathetic. The shit she said in that video was exactly the same logic as comments that people have made to me when I was undiagnosed and unable to function, and it showed me how truly ignorant she is. She can talk all day long about seeing a doctor and going to therapy and taking care of your anxiety and depression, but she has no qualms and no remorse about spreading misinformation and stigma around about conditions where we suffer medical stigma and bias for the nature of our medication. Sorry if this is a wall of text, but it's one of the things I just don't hear ppl discussing within the gorlverse, and it hurt a lot to hear her go from somewhat reasonable to being so discriminatory and dismissive of a condition like ADHD. People don't know how subtle ADHD can be and how drastically a diagnosis and meds can change your life, and it's so hypocritical of her to claim she wants people to be well, yet she shuts down the idea of ALR literally trying to get help, regardless of whether or not we think ALR will go through with it.

@@MikasRhetoric the scary part isn't just that the harm doesn't go away, it's the fact that these kinds of statements can kill. @iain9757

My comment is sorta ignorant but it would be also a wall of text to fully go into in all but as Amber was told she has OCPD (which she doesn’t do anything for) and Bipolar (which she also doesn’t do anything for) they have “crossover symptoms” of ADHD So yes you’re correct that she does because ADHD like you know is never just ADHD there’s always often something else. OCPD and bipolar in ambers case
I used to also really like YDHB but I simply cannot fathom HOW she is possibly a therapist/has ever been a therapist. I have a couple of friends who are licensed therapists and have been in therapy myself for a long time & I simply can’t imagine any other therapist making videos and claims like she does. Also, one of the reasons I liked her is because I am a Ukrainian woman in America and thought I could relate a little to her but the way she speaks about being an “immigrant woman” is so strange to me. My Ukrainian friends and I never talk about ourselves in this way.
Omg she rubbed me the wrong way when in a live stream she was saying "only Americans care about race/ethnicity" while simultaneously saying how she always stood out and was bullied for being an immigrant. For a lot of people being an immigrant is not the only hurdle you face when being in a new country. Racism usually plays a huge factor in that. It just came across incredibly tone deaf for someone to say both and not see how they are two sides of the same coin. A lot of people who dismiss bipoc people like myself hide behind this sneaky comment. Gee I wonder why the person who has to deal with racism keeps bringing it up 🤔 i could never really criticize from a medical stand point because thats not my field but when I heard that it just struck me incredibly hard just how biased this "unbiased" person is. I am not an immigrant but I've been through racism so I always had sympathy/empathy for those who have to experience both. So I was surprised she just used her experience to invalidate the other side. Like how do u of all people not get it babe?? She wasn't even criticizing racists in that generalization she was just saying it annoyed like why do y'all care about race so much it's weird. Yeah babe racism is weird. Also, European accents and blue eyes is literally exoticized and put on a pedestal so much I can actually see how she might've just never experienced racism from American audiences. Literally born and raised in America but people don't think my vote should count in free elections. Love the channel keep up the good work finals is around the corner I need my Mika videos 💗💗

Early on in her channel she used to say that if you drew fan art of her she would post them at the end of videos. I noticed time after time she wouldn’t tag or mention the creators of the art so I left a comment complementing her video while politely suggesting she tag the creators. She responded nicely but said “I do! I just forgot this time” or something to that effect. I only commented after like 5+ videos certainly did not have tags. Not ground breaking by any means but certainly was a turn off and early signs that she is simply unable to admit she’s less than perfect. Like why lie about that.

I used to really like ydhb’s content, but it started to feel more angry and like a way to boost herself up because she is more educated, more fit, healthier, whatever. I also felt like recently in her videos about amber, I felt like she was picking things apart to a fault. Where it invalidated her other points, because some of what she was criticizing was so out of pocket. Like just drawing extreme conclusions out of the smallest thing that amber would say. I think there is a TON to critique amber on, but her building a Lego or something doesn’t really need a critique. I also feel like she would take something and just run too far with it, like amber would say she’s feeling kind of sad that day and ydhb would say something to the effect of “this is narcissistic behaviour, and amber said wifey is SO helpful so why is she feeling down when she has this amazing girlfriend?! Thank you and I am happy you are here :)
I have a tough time articulating my thoughts or understanding how I feel about something. I knew when I stopped watching this video from Sara a minute in that something felt icky. I didn't think about why though until I saw this one from you - thanks!!
im so happy you did a video on her!! i watched her consistently for a long time but stopped because i noticed one too many bright red flags. i also really love the style of your video! i really like the more relaxed and less structured feeling. i havent been getting your videos reccomended to me very often recently even though im subscribed and make an effort to search and watch what you post but im happy this one popped up for me!! nicely done!! also your makeup is amazing (as usual ofc)! you're slaying fr, keep up the good work bestie.

Thank you, for the recommendations I would suggest unsubbing and resubbing (and notifs if you want)
Obsessed with how good your under eye concealer looks, and how dewy & soft-looking your skin looks. I love reading the YDHB snark subreddit, so the fact that my favorite creator made a video about Sara is the cherry on top.

My under eyes have the Too Faced Born This Way concealer and the Becca Under-eye powder. I apply the concealer with the Sephora pro concealer brush (idk if you cared but I thought I’d share my secret 🤫)
I love learning about all these people I would have never ever learned about otherwise

Well I hope you still like the video
Hi Mika love your videos, especially this one. But I do have a tad bit of info for you. There is huge xenophobia against eastern Europeans in Britain. Especially with the whole brexit movement. I learned about this from Angelika Oles, who like the person in this video, is a polish immigrant in the UK. I learned that this xenophobia affected her very negatively. So while I agree with most of your arguments, I think the xenophobia she faces may be a bit more impactful than what was said in this video. As some people think poles and other eastern european are not white. So the comparison you made to the US with Mexican immigrants may actually be more similar than you think. If you look up Eastern Europeans, brexit, and racism there is a short article by the British Sociological Association that shows the xenophobia against Eastern Europeans. As a fellow Canadian this doesn't make sense as poles and brits are both white, but as we both know race is a social construct that seems to change with the wind. And how we define a race is depends on the culture (and government definitions) in which we love. Edit: spelled Angelika wrong

You are correct that she barely faces any intersectionality though. Just pointing out that the xenophobia is more prevalent in the UK than it would be here (in Canada)

Thank you so much for educating me, I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t speaking on it like an authority because I felt I was not sure. I do think she is valid in her experiences and wanted to make that clear as well

@@MikasRhetoric Yes, truthfully my concerns were only a very small part of a long video, and I did enjoy the rest of the video as the main news story covered happened in a town close to both of us. Keep up with the good work! I'm glad I could educate you and that you received my comment well. I believe you have the best intentions, my only suggestion is to be a bit more discerning when it comes to other countries and looking at racism through a Canadian lense. Honestly I would know nothing about this if not for Angelika. Love you Mika! Have a good day
thank you so much for this video and the conversation. Your content about rhetoric is really cool in general! hopefully ydhb will watch this one day and considers your points. I expected more from her honestly
