The Revival of the Buddhist Faith in Siberia

Buryatian Buddhists (October 1995)
After decades of repression, Buddhism is flowering again in South Eastern Siberia. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the revival has been going from strength to strength.

Once more the Buryat people wake to the sound of conch shells and ritual chanting. The coloured robes of Tibetan monks and gold topped temples are a common sight in this isolated land which has been Russia's cultural centre of Buddhism for 300 years. The monastery's head Llama is a pillar of the community and locals seek his advice on just about everything from marriage to medical problems. On a typical morning his office is full of peasants awaiting his wise words. At the turn of the century this part of Siberia boasted 46 Buddhist temples. Most were destroyed during communism - faith was not necessary to life. Now the ordinary people are rebuilding that faith all over the former Soviet Republic.

Buddhism, the spiritual teachings for human beings that making SENSE regarding this life is about sufferings, the law of Karma, cycle of re-birth and re-living to reap your negative or positive karma by holding ALL Souls accountable for their own conscious choices and actions in their life. Making MORE SENSE than if the evil doers and killers confessed their sins and start doing God's work and when they dies their evil pasts and the many peoples they'd killed are ALL BE FORGIVEN? NOT HOLD ACCOUNTABLE? So the souls of the peoples killed by them are ALL HAPPY and REJOICED that their killers found GODS? And the repented evil doers or killers' souls go to HEAVENS to be with GODS along with peoples who had sacrifice their whole life by doing good deeds and serving the GODS too? LOL sorry but that DON"T SOUND OR SEEM RIGHT TO ME AT ALL even when I base this logic with just a human beings COMMON SENSES. As Buddha said: death is certain, but how or when we will die is uncertain. If you want to know your past life... ...look at your present condition. If you want to know your future life... ...look at your present actions. - Padmasambhava 8th century CE.

Hey comrade, don't say such stipid things. That is only because Russians and other Eastern Slavs formed the dominant social majority, so naturally their lives changed the most. All other ethnic groups and cultures were effective too, such as forced population re-movements, until Stalin. You sound like a Russian racist. You should not be like that; Russia has always been a rich country where many peoples have contributed somehow. You may be Russki; but we are all Russianin! Please remember.
