"With a sultry voice and a powerful soul, singer songwriter Nani is belting out tunes and breathing new life into a dying language. The Israeli born and Amsterdam based singer, pianist and trombone player had come out with the 1st original Ladino pop album. Noam's creative inspiration for her new album of original songs in Judeo-Spanish came from what she calls a destined moment while visiting her grandmother's hometown in Fez, Morocco, after a performance at Tanjazz festival. But unlike other artists of today, sticking to traditional songs written hundreds of years ago, Noam is striking a chord with youg audiences." The Jewish might of spoken Arabic, but also Castillian (and other Spanish dialects that today they call languages in the different regions) like it was spoken in Andalucia, in Toledo, etc... So they got kicked out of Spain, and learned Ladino, which sounds more than aything like old Castillian outside of Spain, just by reading books ...?That makes no sense, specially when la historia de Espana says otherwise and when this beautiful singer says it was a conversational language for her ancestors. After all The Jews, los sefarditas lived in Spain even from before Jesus time. Either way, she sings beautifully, and I am buying her cd.
