Funny thing. The reason Ace returning didn't get as much cheer as Dwayne is because they had to reshoot the scene where Ace was revealed because the audience were cheering too much for the dialogue to be heard

@@kjoor8715 Well, Mr "I'm a genius and a big brain", if you watch the Red Dwarf extras for season 6, at about 43:15, you can see Craig Charles commenting about it, immediately followed by the scene with the audience cheering loudly for Ace while Chris Barrie stands there waiting for them to finish so he could say his lines. Smeg Head.

One of the greatest shows of all time. Imagine a bunch of twenty-somethings gathering in a tiny efficiency apartment in southeast Tennessee to get high and watch Red Dwarf on Georgia Public Broadcasting in the late nineties every Saturday night. That was us. Gods bless the boys from the 'Dwarf.

Apparently the live taping audience lost it when he appeared, and they had to edit it out becuase it went on for too long!

it did, but Duane and Ace were such great characters they had to think of a way to bring them back, this evidently was it, great idea too

I didn't dislike but it appears that two people have. They must be smeeeeeee heeeeeeeas.

I wonder what my reaction to Duane and Ace was when I first saw this episode? Probably nothing, as Series 6 was my first series, so back then I had no idea who they were - I probably didn't even know Cat and Rimmer well enough to realize they were out of character in those scenes either. In fact, I even remember when I started to get more familiar with Red Dwarf, (but had still seen very little) that I misremembered these changes in appearances to be actual disguises for some reason, but I later saw "Back to Reality" and "Dimension Jump" and then this episode again, and it all made sense (if I recall correctly.) I saw "Pollymorph" before those episodes (but after this one) but can't remember how much that cleared up for me, other than knowing that they did the shapeshifter before this episode.

Ace Rimmer was my hero back in the 90s when I was in flight school. I got a picture doing the Ace Rimmer pose in front of Grumman Cheetah I was training in. good days. I still find myself using Smeg from time to time.
