There were some epic storylines in Red Dwarf! Real grade A, top quality writing. The one where the four horsemen of the Apocalypse appear in computer program, the one where there’s a guy called Legion (I am Legion for we are many-a classic piece of dialogue). Or the one where the Gelf feeds on their emotions. So many great episodes, we were indeed truly spoilt.

Basically a Doctor Who storyline.
one of my all time favourite scenes from all of Red Dwarf. Spall a legend.
Series 2 to 5 of Red Dwarf really was about as good as comedy, or indeed TV, on a low budget can get. It was daft, it was fun, it was downright clever, it had both hard and fantastical Sci-Fi concepts, it had some amazing scripting. The cast were having a great time and you could tell on the screen. 6 was still pretty good, 7, 8 and BTE were pretty questionable and last time I did a marathon of Dwarf I couldn't cope with them. The Dave era is okay. But I really miss this Red Dwarf, the show that just excuded excitement as they dug in the props cupboard to do all these crazy things.
@callumrogers3129

rob grant left after series six, hence the gags and humor went with him, plus series 7 was filmed on a closed set, so no audience to laugh at the funny ish bits that's why that series feels off. as for BTE that's a case of just don't.
@p1nkeye01

I completely agree with you :) series 5, as far as I’m concerned, is the highlight of the entire series with fantastic episodes such as Quarantine and Terrorform and Back to reality. But really, 3, 4, and 5 all have such an amazing sci-fi and comedic appeal, with 1 and 2 carrying a slightly different tone and also being hilarious. I’ve only gone through se7 once and haven’t seen anything past series 8 aside from promised land. It’s hard to capture how unique the old Red Dwarf was which isn’t bad, but a testament to how awesome the show was in the first place!

Can we just appreciate the difficult job Timothy Spall has here?! He kept screwing up and giving away the punchlines to the jokes here that was the problem because he'd been given all this revelatory dialogue and didn't realise if you do it infront of an audience the idea is to hold back the lines if you know youre going to fuck it up so you dont ruin the spontaneity like the other actors would know to do so he just plowed through it and gave away all this stuff then had to redo it so the audience reaction wasn't as good cos theyd already heard it ofcourse but yes he was doing that cos he wasn't used to a live audience. The series 5 Red Dwarf documentary shows him cocking it up its on that DVD.
