    Aw man, I didn't know there's a poll like that going on. Would have picked either Complete Endgame Course or How to Reassess your Chess though.

    1 game analysis in every two weeks out of the 33 games, I think It will take a lot of time to cover just one book. Either atleast 3 games per video or 1 game video every 4-5 days.

    Thanks for coming up in my suggestions! I have been reading SIlman's Endgame book, as well as 5334 problems. They've both been helpful so far. Logical Chess was very easy to find. I am ready to get started!

    Somehow I missed the poll, happy with this book though. Always great to cement the foundations, and seems like a great starting point for the series! I don’t think I’ve ever looked forward to homework before.

    My favorite is "A Primer of Chess" by Capablanca. Years ago, I found a first edition (Harcourt & Brace, 1935) somewhere, in good condition, and I snapped up. He covers all aspects of the game, and includes some of his own games against other grandmasters.

    Silman's Endgame is now also availabe as a chessable course, which I most definitely gonna buy. To really bring up my game I am more interested in "How to reassess Your Chess" by Silman's

    I think this is a great idea Nelson. I have read the two most popular books in the survey already, but I'll definitely enjoy a review of the cool games and positions. I also think getting more people to read books instead of conforming short form content will be great for chess.

    Could you give advice on how to best "read" a chess book? I assume I should play the game alongside reading. Should I play through all the variations? I find that I have terrible "rewinding" the moves back to the original point whenever I try reading a chess book.

  • @dhavalraja5362

    @dhavalraja5362

    I think it is better to play only the main lines on the board and play only those sidelines which you cannot visualize. If you are just starting with books it will take time to be able to visualize most of the variations but by the time you finish one book that should be it Secondly if you find it difficult to rewind just play all the variations on a virtual board it would be easier to rewind

    I would recommend playing through the game online via the chess.com or lichess analysis board. That way after you go through a variation you can simply click back to the original position before the variation started.

    Well, I have Silman’s complete endgame book, though it’s a bit dated as it doesn’t cover bishop & knight vs. lone king, which has since been shown to be winning. Otherwise a good book… if you’re willing to put the time into it. I’d vote for the other Silman book, “How to Reasses your Chess.”

    The KBN vs K checkmate is by no means a new insight: it was already analyzed by Philidor, and even the "modern" approach (Delétang's triangles) is already a century old!
