I'm not sure why sometimes Aerthy, and only Aerthy, occasionally has his token rotate wildly in every which direction, but somehow it feels very in character.

I love that in the planning stage they all assume this a water barrel. The dm just said a barrel was in there. Love the fact that water got inserted somewhere and character that was actually in the room never corrects them by saying she doesn't actually know what if anything is in said barrel. Cant wait to see this play out. I am loving the death house played this way. Very different from just walk in, check every corner of every room, roll perception and appraise on everything, grab everything that isnt nailed down that will sell, and kill everything that gives xp. Keep up the great work guys.

Idk why but it seems to be a crutch for RP. I've dm'ed for so many players who constantly sigh instead of saying uhhhh or ummmmm. It's a stall technique until they can finish their thought process for what their character may say. I've never seen an entire group do it so often though.

Just invite your current friends to play. Unless you've already tried that, then try work friends. You may have to DM and there's usually some weeding out of flaky individuals but you're bound to find 3 or 4 people to play.

The idea behind this campaign is that the pcs are regular people who aren't heroic. They have class levels but they take on the mindset of commoners who eventually grow into heroes. It makes for fantastic character growth and storylines but it can be a little frustrating to watch them over think everything and run from encounters most parties finish in 3 rounds.

If you recall the expectations put out in the first episode, the player characters are not heroic. They are normal people thrown into this realm that become heroic. So yeah, as normal people, at level 1, they are not going to rush into a problem and possibly get killed. They’re going to be afraid of things that are truly monstrous. The roleplaying of this game is actually pretty spot on for me, but I can get how this pace can be a bit slow for you and the reactions to not just run toward the fight can be… infuriating. But this group is more focused on the storytelling of escaping Barovia rather than the glory of fighting the vampire.

@@Arcticmaster1190I understand this to a point, but there is such a thing as over roleplaying. They took four hours between this session and last session to decide they were going to fight the animated armor. That's excessive. You can montage some of that at that point for the sake of progress. As a DM watching this as part of my prep to see how some of the RAW encounters run and how to present them, it's very frustrating even at 2x speed.

@@thedoctorbob7 That’s how it is sometimes. 😅 Players are going to go overboard with how to approach a problem (or just wing it and bash it in, which is just as frustrating for the DM). Though I would say, if I hadn’t done already- they’re role playing average joes as opposed to our usual heroes. If you ever see how people act when thrown into extraordinary situations like a moving armor or similar things, they’re going to take an eternity to do one thing until they get into knowing how to react. It might have even been something that the players themselves were figuring out at the time- the average Joe, likely isn’t decked out like a hero with the good armor to tank and the good weapons to fight (and the players weren’t- most of them had Leather armor for AC, one weapon and No dedicated healer). These guys had to play like if they weren’t careful, they were going to die. The pace slowed considerably because of that, because to them the bravest of them all is likely the one who would die first. The nicest would be taken advantage of. The most honest would be lied to (hence why everyone was basically floundering at first with who to trust). But hey, it’s likely that you don’t have a group full of cowards and liars. 😅 That was ultimately the Achilles heel of this group’s roleplay. People typically want heroic types, not a group of cowards. That is what slows the game down- especially if you want them to roleplay like their characters are IN a super dangerous situation and not just bull rushing it to get to the next scenario. Hence why they fought the armor but NOT the Specter.

@@Arcticmaster1190 I understand they're Rping average joes, but my point is that they could have just summarized "we continue arguing this way for another 40 minutes before stilling ourselves and deciding to go after the animated armor", instead of literally continuing to talk about whether the obviously magical mist was magical or not for 40 IRL minutes. Like at least for the purposes of presenting the session to the audience. It's just not riveting content to have them talking about nonsense for this long, at least from my perspective. And I watch quite a few DND streams and have DMed for quite some time.
