    I love how Caoimhe's player plays her, especially when she logically calls out some of the others **cough*metrion*cough*Aerthrandir*cough** for their meta gaming in character 😆 I will give it to Metrion though, when he's logically called out, he owns up to it and says "you're right" 😁

    At the end of last episode, I was screaming for Aerie to long rest before the episode ended, because I was afraid he'd forget in the next episode. Now I'm watching him running around at half health and I'm like "Aerie, no! You need that health, you keep going to 0 hp."

    I found the pace of episode 2 to be a bit TOO slow. Just a personal thing I'm sure. I still loved it. Episode 3 nailed it. Loved it when Lil stood up and took charge. This is my favourite rpg stream on the internet.

    Lilissen taking charge is so epic! Anyone can make an anxious, careful character, but it takes real skill to turn that trait into a defining moment of badass.

    Glad you're enjoying! It took a good amount of gentle nudging - the players submitted 4-6 character concepts each, and I tried to guide them each to a unique role. I think it worked out really well!

    SPOILER COMMENT! I realize I'm a year late, but may I ask why you didn't auto-reveal the stairs down to the basement? Am I missing something? Because in the campaign book says that if you discover Strahd's note, or do something weird in the children's bedroom, the house reveals the stairs automatically. I'm going to be running this campaign, so I would love an explination!

    I'm over a year late replying to you and I'm sure you've forgotten this, but the module says: 'Once the house wills the secret door into existence, characters find it automatically if they search the wall' I don't think the character searched the wall.

    So maybe a noob question here, but how can you get a perception check lower than your passive perception? Even if you are actively looking for something wouldnt your passive perception still be "active"? The only thing i didnt like in this episode is toward the end. Randi and amity just knew there was an possession. It would have been nice to know where this character knowledge was comimg from. From the outside looking in, it looked like meta gaming.

    probably it is in their character backstories. they are bibliophiles and well-versed with lore. when methrion behaved strangely after they saw thorn entered methrion's body it is very obvious that a possession occured in front of them.

  • @admiralblackbeard7318

    Passive perception is different than perception. With passive perception, you're not actively looking for something, as you do with perception checks. Passive perception is more like, something you'd catch out the corner of your eye. Your characters perception score is different than your passive perception score.

  • @The_Crimson_Witch

    @The_Crimson_Witch

    @admiralblackbeard7318 The designers have explained this before, but passive checks were intended to be more of a skill floor in the sense of your Passive Perception would pick up on any detail a perception check would reveal if the DC is equal to or lower than your passive- no check required. So even though you can roll lower than your passive perception, it's intended to mean not requiring a roll at all. That said, I tend to treat it as if the DC is equal to your passive, meets it beats it in favor of the DC. So your passive needs to be one higher than the DC, to encourage active rolling rather than relying on passives. It also makes Relaible Talent functional.
