He was fast, but he was NOT QUICK. He did not realise what was going to happen and did not anticipate the next ball movement, His pace could not cover his inability to read the game and anticipate where the ball would go. Also, when he saw something happen, it took his mind time to process what the correct next action should be. FAST, but not quick enough!

@@cummerchant542 he said it correctly. Unless you think look and glance mean the same things. A car with higher torque will hit 0-60 faster but a car with higher HP will have a higher top-end. Fast and quick are very very different. Playing football requires a lot of reading as well. I've played professionally and I was never fast. If a defender read the ball, i would be beaten by pace. If you can read where the ball is coming from correctly, that's half the game. Also, sprinter lack lateral movement. They can run very fast but very straight. In football, you need a lot of lateral movement to beat players/change position. Also, being soft on the ball, sorting your feet, opening the body to recieve or pass, positioning of your knee/ankle/non-kicking foot/hand, bending your waist.. there are innumerable differences which are nuanced but very very important. You need to learn these from a very young age to be a half-decent Sunday league player. Let alone a pro.

It's fairly clear why he failed to make it as a professional in football: he's up against professionals who have dedicated their life to honing the technical and mental skills to succeed in the game. Also, the standard of professional football is surprisingly high even in the lower leagues. Even a player in the national conference league (5th tier of English football) would look like an international superstar playing in a Sunday League side. To play in the any of the professional leagues it's not enough to be fast, able to pick out a pass and hit the ball cleanly. You have to be top 0.01% in the country good. You have to be "played 3 years above my age group at school and still scored 80 goals a season" good. And then you need to have been training since you were 8 years old to push those skills to their limits.

I was a keeper and I'm like 1.77, maybe I would have made it if I was like 5 cm taller... I'll never know lol. Even the smallest keepers are taller than me
He started at an age when some players retire from the sport. Of course his athletic abilites are insane, but there was no way he would be as good as somebody who has trained the game for his entire live.
Becoming a professional soccer player is the dream of milion people who play this sport every single day and train hard since they are kids.. you can't achieve a professional level without these many years of practice and training.. That simple.
Bolt knew he is not on a pro level for football, it's the love for the sports drives him to try out, he just likes trying new things

Extremely fast runners do have an advantage in football, the problem is, absolute control of the ball and the game is not an easy feat to master, people here in Brasil are kicking a ball when they are 2 years old, they have their 10.000 hours of practice way before they leave middle school, you just can't skip the basics and expect to perform in high level, it just doesn't work like that.

He was not Arjen Robben, who could run with the ball at supersonic speed, skipping past defenders and leaving them in the dust, all while retaining the ball. Look at the Netherlands vs Spain game in 2014, where he destroyed the entire Spanish team. One needs both speed and ball retaining ability; that takes years of practice. Usain Bolt had the supersonic speed, but not the skill to retain the ball at the same time, while avoiding defenders who are trained in such maneuvers. If all the defenders stood still and did minimal effort at defending, Usain bolt would have been the greatest winger of all time, but the world does not work that way!
