Totally new to being a cat parent. She came to my house from a neighbor who could care less. She's now had kittens. 5 in total yet one passed away. The one that passed was calico and 1 of the remaining 4 is calico. I have no issues with providing proof if you care to reach out for pictures.

I found a calico in the road crying her heart out, and it was raining. No houses on this road, so I took her home and 2 weeks later she had 5 kittens. 1 was normal calico, 1 was turtle calico, 1 is orange with black stripes, 1 all orange tabby, and 1 beige and white. I was surprised that they rarely have calico babies since mine had 2, I feel extra lucky lol.

I just adopted two calico cats, a mother and daughter. They've been such a blessing in my life. Your cat is beautiful!

I just received a mother stray and her last kitten that survived. The kitten I 2weeks old and I have to bottle feed her. They are a blessing to me

I have one. First calico ever. Picked by my hubby. The majority are female. The males are said to be the good luck types as, "per lore". However, we have been blessed since she came into our home. She was definetely mean't for us. As she was returned 3 times to the center by families who could not handle her active feistiness or had miscalculated having a pet. The humane society mislabeled her as being 3 years old and she was only 1 yr old. I believed her to be 3 years old when she was adopted. We got her for a nominal fee due to their oversight and this was just as well as we had little money at that time. She was to be brought home immediately after approaching my husband and I persistantly. After none of the others would approach us or react to our attentions. My husband immediately acted upon these signs. Be it known that my intention, was to bring home an adult pet as per my preference so as to give an adult animal a chance and because the temperament is already set. Making it easier to match the cat with my lifestyle and personality. Advise to people: Adopt an adult animal and allow the animal to come to you and choose you. Do not seek to adopt by breed or looks. ;)

Thank you for this lovely comment... I too adopted Xena when she was 5... I didn't go for a kitten for the same reason as you... plus Xena picked me not the other way around... I didn't originally went to adopt her as there was another cat I had set my eyes on when I visited the humane society's website, a ginger cat... but when I went to pick him up Xena came rubbing up against my leg and meowing... so I took her 😂😂😂 and I'm happy I did.

@@WhiskersandLuv I'm glad you picked up on her cues and adopted her. Most people miss those cues. I regret not choosing pets this way when I was younger. I often picked by looks or breed. And although I loved my animals dearly. The connection and bond was not as strong as when they picked me. For example, my ex husband once purchased a new born beautiful long chihuahua dog for me which I picked by looks. She ended up picking my ex husband and formed a strong bond to him. In the end, when we divorced he did not want her. She ended up with me and although treated like royalty. She developed illnesses out of the stress of no longer being with my ex and ended up passing due to being apart from him. This being said, if you ever have a pet that does better with a friend or family member. Let go and let them go to their new forever home. Or risk the pet dying of sadness or failure to thrive.

@@grahamjonesfamily1634 Oh my gosh, that's so heartbreaking. That poor dog, and I can imagine how hurt u must have been too. And yes, picking by looks is very common here in Jamaica. I don't know what you guys call it in the United States but in Jamaica there is this type of long legged, skinny looking, very short haired looking dog, Jamaicans call them "Mongrel dawg (dog)". u see them a lot at the animal shelter bcz nobody wants them bcz their not seen as "cute". Whenever a very furry, shaggy looking breed of dog or cat comes into the shelter, they get adopted within seconds, while the poor other animals hardly get adopted quickly. Plus here in Jamaica u hardly see these "nice looking" breeds up for adoption cause nobody hardly gives their kittens/pups away, they use them for a nice quick buck since they are so "pretty".

@@WhiskersandLuv Xena, sorry for the late reply. Yes. I believe I know which dog you speak of. It's a lovely type of 🐕. But it tends to need a lot of maintaining due to it's shaggy coat. Although. My first dog at the age of 3 was that type of dog and he was very friendly and loving. Yes the U.S. tends to have many dogs overlooked for age or lack of pedigree. But its a travesty. People are missing out.

I had a calico for 17 years and I just lost her 2 months ago. But as you said she was sweet, loving, and loyal to me but not so much to anyone else. A sour patch kid is a good way to describe her. Sour at times but also a sweetheart! I just got a new tortoise shell kitten and she seems to share the same traits...

my aunt just had her cat come back pregnant with 3 kittens, and nobody wanted the calico one... guess who's getting one for free

A street Calico and tortoiseshell cat started hanging out in my patio a couple weeks back and I started feeding them. The tortoiseshell cat unfortunately was hit by a car while trying to cross the street. I took the Calico cat in, now she's mine since she was alone after her sister passed. She's the cutest thing, very independent, but very loving too. It was hard watching her call out to her sister though. I really hope that there's a kitty heaven.

Xena is such a beauty.

In the late 1990's I lived with brother & sister Calico twins and the male was a retrieving cat. I discovered that when I threw a beer cap he would bat it around the floor then pick it up with his mouth and deliver it to my open hand. He would play like this for 3/4 - 1 1/2 hours. He was affectionate too and loved to be petted & make biscuits.

I have a calico cat. When sasha can't find me she will get her stuffed rabbit in her mouth and go around the house crying like a mother cat until she finds me. If i am out when i come home i will find her stuffed rabbit by the door She is not very nice at the vet. you explained my cat exactly to a tee.

Super nice video! We have a 3 year old female Calico, my wife brought her home after our dog died, the dog, also a female lived to be 17, her passing was a BIG loss, especially to me. The kitten my wife brought home was so dirty that you couldn't really tell what it was colorwise or otherwise. She turned out to be a beautiful Calico, we named her Fiona. Fiona is a joy to be around, I never knew how endearing cats could be or that I could be so besotted by a furry little critter such as Fiona. Thanks for your informative and interesting video. Great job!!!!!

Hi Xena! thanks so much for the cool video on calico cats! My friend gave me a calico cat. She is a very sweet 2 1/2 year-old, who is very playful, quite sassy, yes, and very smart! She follows me everywhere I go in the house, and is very curious as well. Also, she seems to have a very very good appetite! Do any other calico cat owners find that their calico cat eats as much as she can??

I had a male calico a rare cat indeed his name was simon. He unfortunately passed away 3 weeks after his 1st birthday due too brain issues. I still cry to this day for him, just sucks for me to think about cause being a male calico cat is almost like a death wish, which it really isn't but more often in his case than not, He had issues his whole life and it pains me to think he was suffering, but I gave it my everything and did my best to take care of him. Im glad I could make him happy till the end😥😥. RIP Simon i love you 2020 - 2021 😭

I our family adopted our Calico just last year from a local foster organization. I don’t know too much of her past, but she was supposedly a surrendered teen mom. Other than that, she was well cared for and socialized. We’ll be celebrating her second birthday this summer! Support your rescues, adopt / foster, and all that jazz!

One of my friends mamacats was giving birth 4 Calico kittens for more than 40 years of having cats. Now, she is looking a buyer.

Had a calico cat named Cleopatra. I called her Goofy mostly because she did some goofy things in the first half of her life! She was the dirst cat I raised from a 9 week old kitten. Everyone that met her would say how much she really loved me!! She lived to be almost 19 1/2 years old when she passed away. I sure do miss my Goofy Gurl!!

I have a calico kitten her name is kopico. I like her little cute face. ❤

I have a beautiful dilute calico named Isabella. She’s at the door when I come home too. I also have noticed that she can hold a grudge if I have been away too long and I have to win back her affections slowly. I love this “breed” (j/k) and feel so fortunate to have her grace me with her presence every day. :-)

Xena is gorgeous ... rather like the one sitting next to me right now, but smaller. :-) Ours is a British shorthair, and ticks all those boxes (extra-large, placid, easygoing, follows me around like a shadow), with a fair helping of calico attitude. I think it's a stroke of luck in itself to have one around, because they're a bit special.

Lovely cat, lovely accent, lovely presenter. I just adopted a "clouded calico": that is, she has amber and grey patches on a white background, rather than orange and black, and great big yellow eyes. Mollie is a little darling, very affectionate and talkative. PS. The fabric, "calico" is named for the city from which it was exported: Calicut, in India.

If I would have a Calico cat, I would name it “Kenma”.

There a lot of stray cats in my area, and I regularly go out to feed them even during a time like this. Out of all the cats there are about 2 Calico cats and one of them is male! He's about 2-3 years old? Either way, I was trying to search up all about Calico cats and found this video just to learn a little more about them.

I have enjoyed the company of tricolors - no males though - my entire life. Yea, the ones I've come across are really spunky, a lot of people have shared that experience... I guess that's why cat lovers just tend to generalize and label them all with that particular personality trait.

My baby Opal Anne was a lovely calico, too.

Hi ,We live in the foothills of of the mountains in Southern Taiwan. A couple of years ago a feral ginger female cat adopted us. She insisted on moving in with us, so after a while she did. About a year later she got pregnant.We're.pretty sure the father was a Bob tail cat...also feral. She had five kittens.All female.One ginger, two tortoise shell, one grey and one calico. We found homes for the ginger and two tortoise shell kittens and kept the grey and the calico. The grey is the friendliest and my favourite.The calico is more nervous and less friendly.She has scratched me a few times.Recently she decided to like me and is now very friendly. I only found out today after your video that there is a name for her...calico.I had no idea. She's really pretty White underneath and distinct black and orange patches on her face , back, tail and legs. Thanks for your video !

Fidget is 11 weeks old. She is a little stinker and bites alot. Her mother is Calico. She had 5 kittens only one Calico which we snatched up at 6 eeeks old. She is also the runt so very small. We adore her.

I adopted a two years old female TNR cut ear calico no tail. Obviously she was spayed ,vaccinated and left again into her environment .She is not feral but close enough , she hunted a snake ! And yes sassy , independent , spunky hunter , she still sometimes acts aggressive but now she lets us pet her , rubs her head , and even snuggle with me while sleeping. She is a cute baby , 3 kg forever kitten . i love her so much this year she will not be on street she wll enjoy a warm safe house .

I wanted to make sure I was pronouncing the word right so I looked up the proper pronunciation for it and used what I heard the American English speakers say instead since the name was originated there lol. 😂😂😂 yea it does sound really pretty, so I can imagine how you feel when you take a look at your little fur baby 💕💕💕

I have a calico. I rescued her from a cat hoarder. She's been a blessing to me. She's a sweet girl but can be sassy.

We have a female Calico cat. We adopted her from my partners Aunt when she was unwell and no longer able to have pets. She is so friendly and adorable. Always wants cuddles from her humans. Sadly she does get Gum problems though so she has had to have some teeth out.

Black, White, Orange & Red are Maryland's state colors. Calicos have 3 of the 4 colors so that's how it became Maryland's cat.

I didn’t know they cannot be bred. I have a calico named Maya. Super sweet but pretty jumpy. She was a stray kitten on my street.

Neighbor has one and it ran away. I was on my night walk and I see cayotee keep going around the block to catch her. And poor cat has bell around her neck. So much for stealth. So its house cat with zero street smarts. This thing was so jump at cars even me. But it came to right away and I play with her . Pick her to take her home but would come down . And just scared to cross the street . Followed me but couldn't cross. I knew noth of cats not even how to pick one but. Be a Leo ♌ myself. So the owner turned out to be neighbor few housed down and took her after she stay a few nights at vacant house next door. But the cutest thing ever. And it liked me too.

What’s the difference between an Aegean and a calico?

My calico I had growing up. She came into my life after my cat, Thumper, was killed by a hunting dog. Frisky was her name, as she was wild and didn’t like to be handled. That is until she got pregnant. And we found out she was a calico and they were usually female!

I've got a calico named Patchy. She was found at the brink of death, but after many visits to the vet, she's alive and well! ... she thinks she's the queen of all things and bullies everyone, but I like letting her know she's still my one eyed baby.

I have 3 Calicos (2 girls a mother and daughter and 1boy unrelated), 1 tabby, and 1 black. They are all beautiful 😍 Also, I didn't know he would be sterile so he is fixed. 🤷 His demeanor is less rambunctious than the girls though and he is way more affectionate.

Yes!!! my boy cat is very affectionate too lol, girl cats show their affection but for some reason I think the males are more affectionate lol.

Do you know the breed of your calico? My calico resembles yours A LOT but i dont know the breeeeed!

I adopted a calico point Siamese mix kitten from the Humane Society a few months back and she is a little love muffin! She's mostly white with muted orange and dark gray patches on her tail and ears and part of her face. She also has a patch on the back of her head that is the color of a seal point Siamese with stunning blue eyes! She has a very inquisitive, loving and loyal nature like a Siamese, but she definitely has a sassy streak! She's jealous of my 12 yr old orange tabby and she actually scowls at him and tries to annoy him whenever he's sitting next me! Thankfully, my tabby is very good natured and tolerates her fits of jealousy quite well! My tabby is 3 times bigger than my calico kitten so he just bowls her over and sits on her until she mellows out - LOL! She's a bit bossy /controlling at times too! She loves to groom my tabby cat but whenever he tries to return the favor she tries to slap him!

Wow! I've never seen a Siamese Calico cat, I can just imagine how beautiful she is, nit surprised that she's a little sassy one, and lmao 😂😂😂 her relationship with little tabz is a very interesting, cute and funny one 😂, is your tabby cat a boy? I've always realised that boy cats are very sweet and tolerant lol as compared to girl cats. 🤔

@@WhiskersandLuv Yes, my orange tabby is a male cat. Hes orange and white and is super lovable and outgoing. I've always been a huge fan of Siamese and Orange tabbies because of their personalities . Most of the cats i've owned over my lifetime have been male Siamese or Orange Tabbies because I found them to be more outgoing and tolerant than female cats. and other breeds I've found that the female cats i've owned seem to be a little moody and/or bossy at times - lol. I ended up adopting my calico point kitten after my orange tabbie's brother had to be euthanized, because of an inoperable brain tumor! He was the smartest and most laid back cat i've ever owned! Sadly, after he was put down, my orange & white tabby was beside himself with grief for months, so I adopted a kitten to help him get through his mourning period and feel less lonely - thankfully it worked! My calico point Siamese kitten's name is Lily and she's definitely a stunner in the looks department! Everybody that lays eyes on her is blown away at how beautiful she is and they all want to pick her up and cuddle her right away... Luckily, she is accepting of people holding & cuddling her all the time. She's beautiful and I think she knows it , so maybe she appreciates the attention? The first time my vet saw her he grabbed her up, hugged and kissed her multiple times while he cooed at her like she was a human baby! She loved the attention from the vet! She was like - "yes... worship me human... you know i'm beautiful"! I have a pictures of her where she looks like shes actually posing for the camera, with her head leaned back over her shoulder and her nose up in the air, looking like a movie star! LOL... she's definitely a character! She's cute and sweet but a bit stubborn, and she demands to be the center of attention! My orange & white tabby guy acts like a daddy cat with her... he's very patient / tolerant of her antics but won't hesitate to take her down a few pegs by knocking her over & sitting on her when she's acting like a spoiled brat! Seems like he's teaching her manners. and self control - which she absolutely hates! : D

@@angiesiege Lou Kout Awwww 🙀🙀 this is the most beautiful think I read since morning, I just got the chance to read it. But I'm soooo sorry that brain tumor happened to your cat, and the poor little thing had to be euthanized, I can't even begin to imagine how tough that must have been for you, and then the other poor cat in grief. Anyway I'm glad all that has passed and that your little Calico fur baby has since brought back joy into the family. I know how much attention Calicos can get 😹😹😹 first time I took Xena to the vet the vet was cuddling and kissing her too talking 'bout "Ooooh!!! she's a little Calcio cat" 😹 Xena didn't like the cuddling though she was too caught up about the unfamiliar surroundings 😹. I'm glad the little tabby cat is patient with her though, I have a little neighbourhood cat named toby, I made a video about him earlier when I started this channel, I'm going to leave that link here for u, he's really outgoing and loving too just like ur male cat and he lets me play with his belly 😂 Xena would kill me if I ever touch her belly.

@@WhiskersandLuv Thank you for being sympathetic as well as your well wishes for my tabby boy! His name is Bayto but I always call him Pooh Bear because his personality is similar to the Disney character and he's chubby just like Winnie the Pooh! ; D I'll check out the video of Toby too, thanks!

I'm about to adopt a calico cat-or possible tortie, need to get another good look at her-and one of her kittens in 2 days. The kitten is an orange tabby but female. I had heard they are usually male. Puzzling.

I have a calico male. I didn't know when I got him how rare he is. I'm curious if anyone else has one and of their experiences.

I love raising calies.. my last beauty looked like she had china and a heart on her back so her name was China pronounced cheena because she was in El Salvador, there weren't calies on the Island where we lived and her mommy was a grey tabby 🤔 her brothers came out yellow tabbies and one of them i named tigger because he was a beautiful orange pattern and fluffy. I miss my kitties 😪

im getting a calico cat next week her name is Leah and she is around 10 weeks old :)

I'm about to adopt and will have 2 months of 3 little Calico kittens soon. Which is always my favourite cat because of their lovely tricolour. I love other cats too. I have 1 Calico kitten 10 years ago but it was missing maybe someone took it because I never found it anymore. Wish me luck to have furry babies soon 😍😍so nervous to Be mommy again😅😅

Is Xena a domestic shorthair? I have a calico named Mimi who looks a lot like Xena. ❤️

I'm honestly not sure, because off camera Xena is fluffier than the average domestic short hair cats that we have out here in Jamaica but at the same time, I know for a fact she's definitely not a domestic long hair. When I first got her the vet told me she was Turkish angora mixed.

@@WhiskersandLuv the vet wrote the breed of my cat as domestic longhair (which of course she's not) but she's not shorthair either. I can't work it out. Anyhow take care and stay safe!

Mine, died yesterday...she's pregnant and unfortunately, the kittens are died too.... I'm still sad.. 😭

I have 2 pet calico cats, both mother and daughter that came to my house as strays. We don't know who the father is though, but they are both very playful!

I didn't think people really thought calico was a breed but every video I see about them explains it so that's pretty crazy. If calico was a breed then it wouldn't likely be as common as it is especially if it's considered a lucky breed like pugs and shih tzu dogs which can be very expensive.

hi! first off your kitty is beautiful! I've got a male calico kitten named Bruce ( named after Bruce Lee)and his sister also a calico named Ziggy( named after the pattern in her fur). They're very sweet and love to eat and play. they love sleeping in my lap and giving kisses and playing with my other big black cat Blue.

Thank you!!! I actually had two. But my first one, ran away. Bruce is very happy and healthy. Actually I thought he was a girl until I looked up male vs female sex parts lol. :)

Hi I have a calico cat she will be 12 yrs old March 12th. She can be sassy lol only wants to be with me. Sasha is not very friendly with my dog. Sasha as a toy rabbit that she carries around when she can't find me cries like it is her baby. I put out her food ask her to show me what she wants and will move her can (so sweet.)

I have a calico cat but she died in December 10 2020 and she didnt reach Christmas :(
