I implanted a habit which has worked wonders. It brings the future pain associated with not doing the things I should do into the present. The habit is simple: I have to write a letter to my family for them to open sometime in the distant future. If I go to the gym that day, stick to my diet, etc, I write a letter to them saying that I worked on being healthy that day and why I did it, for them, etc. if I don’t feel like going to the gym or eating healthy or whatever, ok fine, but I have to write a letter saying basically “sorry guys, you weren’t important enough for me to do what I should be doing.” When I don’t feel like going to the gym or when I feel like straying from my planned diet, I think about writing that letter and the thought alone is so painful, I choose to go to the gym, etc. it’s worked well for me.

Instead of focusing on goals and outcomes be present and enjoy the journey.

There can't be a journey if you don't know where your headed

@@surpriserakins9067 are you where you thought you were headed 10 years or 20 years ago? Maybe you are, but I am somewhere I never imagined 20 years ago and had a great journey (which is still ongoing) to get here without knowing where I was headed.

It isn't so much an incentive as much as the incentives have to impress on the mind the need feeling. You have to have that need to do it or else it will be boring or you will go to the routine. Simply being incentivized to not do something sometimes doesn't translate to the "I need to do this" or the conviction isn't there. With stuff that has little to no reward means that you have to have a strong deep rooted need to do it or it has to be routine for you. But incentives translate to actually feeling the need to do or not do it. The further away from inaction the need to do something goes away. The more repeated steps that something has been done, the easier it is to turn it into routine. It helps to be around others that have a similar mindset as they will ease the need and it will be mentally easier. But NEED is key and incentives make the need apparent.

Now ! I'm gonna buy a cappucino and snickers bar on the way to the gym to carb up . Then as a reward on the way back another cappucino and a snickers bar

😂😂😂😂😂 that only works if you have the discipline not to give yourself the reward regardless! And if I was that disciplined then I wouldn't need to motivate myself to be in the gym with such rewards 🤷‍♀️
