What’s the difference between brewer’s yeast and nutritional yeast? That’s what we’re going to cover today.
Yeast isn’t a bad thing-it’s a crucial part of your microbiome. But, if you kill off your friendly bacteria, you can get an overgrowth of yeast, which can be harmful.
The benefits of friendly yeast in the gut:
• It helps defend against pathogens
• It helps make glutathione (a powerful antioxidant)
• It helps regulate cholesterol
• It helps build immunity against certain pathogens
• It may help increase breast milk production
• It supports healthy blood sugar levels
Both brewer’s yeast and nutritional yeast are inactive, so you won’t develop a yeast infection from consuming either one.
Let’s look at nutritional yeast vs. brewer’s yeast. First off, brewer’s yeast or baker’s yeast is typically grown on beet sugar, which is GMO.
Nutritional yeast is typically grown on molasses, which has a lot of nutrition. Nutritional yeast is a product people take to enhance their nutrients.
Brewer’s yeast or baker’s yeast may have more protein, but nutritional yeast has more B vitamins. There are a lot of amazing health benefits of nutritional yeast, and the fact that it's rich in natural B vitamins is the main reason many people choose it.
Be sure to avoid nutritional yeast that is fortified with synthetic B vitamins. This can lead to negative reactions in some people. Always get unfortified nutritional yeast.

I used fortified nutritional yeast for a short while (without knowing it) and I felt really bad. When I finally found an unfortified version here in Sweden it was such a big difference. I’ve always gotten ill from synthetic vitamins (and I think alot of others get ill too, but not realizing it) so I prefer to use the “all natural” when it comes to vitamins. Because today it’s really difficult to get proper nutrition from food with all additives and preservatives and what not. So I’m glad that I stumbled upon your videos about NY a while ago and decided to try it. B1 is tough to get in such large amounts from regular food.

About ten years ago I switched from using granulated sugar crystals in my coffee and switched to half molasses, half raw, unfiltered honey. I used to add about two teaspoons of sugar to each 8 ounce cup and I typically have three cups every day. I forget the exact numbers, but honey is about 45% sugar and molasses is about 55%. So basically when I add a teaspoon of each I'm getting roughly half the sugar compared to plain sugar crystals. Plus I get all the extra benefit of iron, potassium, calcium, all kinds of bioactive stuff in the honey and my coffee tastes so much better now. Plus, I switched from whole milk to heavy whipping cream. I don't need as much and it lasts twice as long.

My fiancee and I have been taking B vitamin complex supplements for quite some time and also a D vitamin and Zink as well. I'm curious about incorporating this nutritional yeast as well. Can all those side effects mentioned here happen from B complex supplements as well or this goes only for fortified yeast? Also if we incorporate nutritional yeast in our diet, should we avoid B complex or is it still okay to use it? We would also like to include a lemon balm tee with all of that. Is it all safe to combine? Thank you for reading this :) God bless.

Thank you so much for mentioning MTHFR polymorphisms! I have some (not the B vitmain one) and it makes taking supplements really tricky so I try to find natural sources when at all possible. If you are neurodivergent (ASD/ADHD, etc) these mutations occur at a higher rate. Definitely get tested if so! Sone also affect Vit D absorption and catecholamine absorption as well. It's great to know this before taking meds or supplements.

  • @Sidera17

    @Sidera17

    Жыл бұрын

@@kissenklauer7011 A doctor can order a genetic test but sometimes it's a hard sell due to insurance or doctors not being knowledgeable about it. I had to actually do a mail-order DNA service, get the raw data (which is not as complete as an actual gene test), and run it through an internet 3rd party engine. When the mutations were flagged, that was what convinced the doctor to actually run the "official" test which confirmed the results. I was having scary med side effects and it turned out they were clearing so slowly from my body that I was being overdosed accidentally on most meds. If you suspect it or are really sensitive to meds/supplements/foods, it's definitely worth it.

@Kissenklauer I did 23&me a while back, with the added "medical info" analytics option (so not just ancestry) and upon seeing a functional medicine doctor, she asked me about my MTHFR and COMT gene expressions. From there I found multiple websites which offered free/cheap automated analysis against the 23&me data for reporting on these particular genetic SNPs, along with links to the research they were able to gather related to the different gene expressions in different populations and the apparent effect(s). Well worth all that investigation. FWIW, I'm very "aspy" (OCD and ADD and whatnot) and also have issues with MTHFR, and outside of folate supplementation, I try to eat regular servings of cruciferous veggies and cod liver.

I bought some Dr. Berg’s adrenal support formula which contains nutritional yeast, and although I haven’t seen a lot of improvement in my stress levels yet (admittedly, I am going through a very stressful time in my life) I have noticed that my digestion seems MUCH more smooth - I’ve been battling severe constipation ever since I’ve tried cutting carbs, experiencing all this stress with my job, etc. to the point that I had to get a water irrigation just to get one particularly bad buildup of stool out. Since introducing nutritional yeast, it’s never been a problem.

Oddly if I eat nutritional yeast even 1 TBS unfortified I can't sleep all night. It gives me terrible insomnia. I recently had genetic testing done by my naturopath and I just looked up the results and I do not have a variant from either parent in the MTHFR Gene. I hope I'm understanding that right because I'm not a scientist or a doctor. I thought maybe I'd found the problem of why I can't take any sort of food or supplement with added B. It's very frustrating because I love nutritional yeast and the energy in the daytime is great but forget about sleeping. I always used to think I had insomnia in my whole life but it turns out the b in my multivitamin even back to childhood kept me awake. If I take 5,000 units of D3 I'm fine but if I take two of them, no sleep. Love your videos, I've learned so much.

It sounds like a classic example of serious deficiencies of both active vitamin-D and magnesium. This is a common problem where symptoms develop with high dosages of vitamin_D3. Pure D3 is inactive and should not directly cause any adverse reactions. However, when seriously deficient in vitamin-D, the body will go to extremes to convert it into its active form and that requires magnesium. Your already low magnesium will drop like lead and insomnia is but one of the many side effects of low magnesium. Magnesium and vitamin-D are two of the four foundational supplements that belong on most everyone daily list. Supplement with several quality forms of magnesium, but not oxide.

When these levels are tested for in a corpse, it is found that the higher their concentration, the longer that person is likely to have lived. They all increase the expected life span. Additionally, it is now known that restricted eating that increases life span, was due to magnesium entering the cells. Dr. Mark Sircus, on the web, is a good source to learn more about magnesium. Hello Dr. Berg, I am a 30 year old male who stands out 5‘7“ tall and weigh 335 pounds. I really plan on doing a prolonged water fast for an extended period of time I plan to drink 2 L of water a day with snake juice ingredients and was also thinking about taking nutritional yeast. Do you recommend me taking nutritional yeast on this fast? If so, what brand and how much should I take a day?

Thank you so much for this! Would you be open to doing a video on the MTHFR gene mutation. I discovered I have this and would love to learn more.
